I grew up a member of the first conservation organization in America, founded before conservation was cool.

Before others had their bumper stickers and their lobbyists, they were effective in teaching us to value the land and wildlife, leaving public and private property cleaner than we found it, and preventing eco-disasters (forest fires).

We were given opportunities to try out many careers caring for animals, and the earth, and our own species on it.

We were called Boy Scouts.

And because I was an Eagle Scout is why I am also a member of the Sierra Club.

One thing I didn't see mentioned was hanging up a clothesline in your backyard. You have to add fabric softener to your laundry, but hanging your clothes up to dry instead of running them through the dryer will cut your electricity bill and save energy.

So we buy a hybrid car. From stories in the Desert News, that means higher food prices in third world countries and more people starving. I would rather see us stick with gasoline, even if it means drilling in the Rocky Mountains, so people in other poor countries can afford to eat. From past DN stories, the price of corn has gone way up in Mexico, in order to make gasahol for the US. Why would we want to sentence them to a slow hunger when we can drill for oil in our own country?

If you live in certain subdivisions you aren't allowed to have these. Oh and forget about hanging your levis off the back deck railing someone will call you in for that too.
I believe in being a responsible member of society, but it has become a headache being told that the price of gas is going up again because we buy our oil overseas. I'm with Still no free ride. Why can't we drill here in the good ole USA? We have plenty and times have changed and we have become smarter, we should be able to figure out a way to be eco friendly and still use the resources that God gave us.
