Play's not the only thing that keeps theater running

Interesting article, it's too bad it's not accurate. For example The theater in Springville ran for more than 2 years not several months and the owner sold to the city after the mayor had expressed interest in the building. Not because it was "failing". I did shows there during the last two years. This article would have been better written by someone who actually runs a theater business locally. Ms. Haddock over simplified the problems and more importantly the solutions. Some of her points were accurate just vague. Deseret News should invite someone to write a follow up. Hale would be a good choice.

Having worked for those who ran the Art City Playhouse, I actually think that it's accurate to say that it was failing, in part because they were trying to run two theaters at the same time (and thus were divided in their attentions), in part because they didn't have a lot of business savvy, in part because their professional and artistic instinct often created sub par shows.
