This editorial overlooks the obvious: The merger will create the world's largest airline, which will significantly reduce competition and result in higher air fares for everyone. The $5.7 million handout that the legislature gave Delta could have been used to repair our roads or to hire new teachers for our schools.

The legislature and the Deseret News have once again demonstrated that they care more about corporations than they do the citizens of Utah.

reading the article "Merger Creates Concerns" I'm beginning to wonder how safe are the Utah jobs?

Frank, I'm curious how you come to the conclusion that reduced competition necessarily results in higher prices. Prices are going up regardless of how many companies compete for the same customers. The reason for the merger is to enable them to increase their volume at lower margins. That's what happens when the profit margins are squeezed: less efficient businesses drop out. When the margins increase, the number of companies jump in for a piece of the action. Enabling the merger is hardly pro-corporation and anti-citizen. Aren't Utah citizens employed there, and doesn't Delta's presence bring in significant revenue to the state?

That $5.7 million that Earl talks about may have saved Delta from bankrupcy...keeping jobs and money here in our state. QW
