FREEDOM! | 8:02 a.m. April 12, 2008
I think Texas did the right thing. I personally KNOW how deranged the polygamist cults are. I am very happy with the investigation. Nobody should be a slave to an insane cult like the FLDS. To be born to be a slave is the worst thing known, and this is America! We do not believe in slavery. We should have freedom to think and choose for ourselves. Using ones mind (without brainwashing from someone else) is the most wonderful gift from God. These people will have to learn to experience freedom for the first time in their entire lives. Thanks to Texas, perhaps, this is now possible.

to get this comment posted, but the Des. News people don't seem to care.

To all you people saying "shame on Texas" . . .

Pretend you're 16.

You're married to a 50yo man.

You have an infant.

You're pregnant.

You're frequently abused.

You have no way out.

This will be your life.

Sounds pretty miserable, huh? I wish all you softies would Google "FLDS" and read up on their beliefs.

SHOCKING.

I'm hoping this comment is posted.

The State of Texas did the correct thing by investigating possible child abuse at Eldorado aggressively in my opinion. Polygamy damages women and children, and it is against the law. The practice directly damages women and children. It damages everyone in our society by causing these dependants to live in poverty. Polygamy and inbreeding also perpetuate the spread of genetic illnesses (which further harms taxpayers. Anti-polygamy laws should be rigorously enforced!

Excuse me if I am way out of order here - you see I don't live in America, so I don't know much about the state of Utah, but I do know a lot about child abuse especially child sexual abuse (i'm a survivor myself). Those teenage girls (and boys) were groomed from the day they were born. They were groomed and controlled by their paedophile fathers who put fear in their hearts with an extra dose of brainwashing for good measure. These mothers are also victims themselves, but I do not condone their behaviour by sacrificing their daughter's and sons for the sake of their 'priesthood head'. Those mothers need to UNDERSTAND that their children have to be protected and feel safe enough to be able to speak out about the abuse.

In time they may join their children, but I stress they must NEVER let them go back to their abusive husbands - because they will NEVER change and WILL CONTINUE their vile abuse of children.

I am astounded that anyone could think that the actions of the TX officials who removed the children fromt this compound did anything unlawful or immoral. They did what they had to do. This is NOT about religious freedom at all. Last night I listened to Carolyn Jessup describe how her infant son was waterboarded by her "husband," Merrill Jessup, the very man who runs this Zion place. The fact is that the insidious violence that is used to instill fear and compliance in the women and children in this sect is unlawful and a disgrace to the freedoms our country is charged with providing EVERY CITIZEN. To do anything BUT get these children away from these predatory men and the women who aid and abet them out of fear and misplaced devotion to a religious leader who is HIMSELF a pedophile would be unforgivable in my opinion. I am proud of our state for taking action where other states have looked the other way. Go TEXAS!

The FLDS women are obviously slaves. They were born into slavery. They have never had the right to learn anything about the rest of the world. How can this be justified?

Now, it is obvious that a horrible genetic abnormality is being allowed to run rampant through this enslaved group of people. How can suffering like this be justified under the label "religion".

It's sickening.....I applaud the TX law enforcement and courts for having the courage to go into this compound and FREE those women and children.

Just bought Carolyn Jessup's book Escape, I thought I knew lots by reading the news reports, but there is MORE in this book and yes, that man Merrill Jessup is abusive in every way from what I read of her accounts. He may look innocent in those videos and photos, but is clear he is an abusive man. I encourage everyone to read the book. Book was 30% off at Borders, but I pray all the remaining proceeds go to her and her kids, who she now has full custody of YES, the justice system can work to protect kids! She fought and won over this cult's holding on her and her children. I really admire that woman and her courage to get out and start life free. Her daughter at age 12, was so brainwashed, too and being groomed by the evil, insane man Jeffs. It is sad to read about. TX was right to intervene, because abuse does exist.

ya know some of you are really stupid. Just because a few are bad doesn't mean that they all are. You sound as bad as the people who kept slaves. Seriously it's not your life to life or your choice to make. just because you don't agree with it doesn't mean you can point out every thing that you think is wrong with it. Freak.
And in no way shape or form was it right to take a child from thier mother as TX did to these children. All TX did was kidnap children on a bogus call.
