I totally agree...In what world is hitting a deer the sportsman's fault???

This is the reason no-one in my family hunts anymore. It is so expensivem and such a hassle to get all the permits, drawings, etc. anymore.

Not like 'the good old days', when you hunted for the meat to help feed your family

DNR's across the country have been underestimating deer herds and managing herds too conservatively leading to an ever rising population. It is no surprise to me that society is tired of it and this is one way to apply pressure to the correct place, the DNR's who aren't doing enough to hold herds in check. I'm from IL where we currently have a state sponsored task force to look at ways to reduce the population. Almost all sportsmen are mad about it, but they are the same ones who talk about passing numerous deer annually waiting for the "right" one or who constantly say there's not too many deer where they hunt. Of course most deer hunters always want more deer not less. But this is the consequences of that kind of thinking.
