While I understand that your article is focused on David because of the "Hometown" boy aspect, I think you've seriously underestimated some of the other contestants on the show. I think David Archuleta is going to end up being the shocking boot of the season.

As for the "cutest-boy voting bloc. If and when Jason leaves he will undoubtly leave some hurt and perhaps angry fans. I don't seem them wiping their tears and running to the cutest one left. Perhaps these fans might want to see the one that hurt their favorite fail.

Jason is awesome and he is going to give David A a run for his Idol title. Peace, Love, Castro!

Can't sing | 9:06 a.m. April 8, 2008
Jason is cute, but he can't sing -- and his dreds are tiresome. Splitting the Mormon vote is not an issue, because there aren't enough Mormons to make a difference. Brooks will go within 3 weeks, if not this week, though I still think Christie is on thin ice. David can flat out sing, and he appeals to more then one demographic. That being said, the most talented don't always make it through -- Chris Daughtry loses and (in a different year) Taylor Hicks wins? Then there is the case of Reuben and Clay. Still, those who make it this far have a good chance of "making" it in the business, if indeed they can sing.

I feel like I'm watching and listening to the Partridge Family when Jason is "trying" to sing. Utah, for obvious reasons, will vote Brooke and David A, but who is really a star out there? Watching the show is fun, but would you really buy an album from these guys?

archuleta is not mature enough for idol. he has a beautiful voice but is not very versatile. maybe not this year but give him a few years and some maturity and he will do well. jason castro is a very gentle, christian young man and i love his whole persona. i do think david cook is a surething though as he is consistent every week.

Why is it "obvious" that Utah will vote for Brooke and David? Because there are Mormons here? I don't vote for an American Idol, president, whatever, based solely on his/her religion. What a stupid assumption. Hey, even though that guy sounds like crap, I'll vote for him because he's Mormon! Come on.

Isn't It Beautiful? | 2:22 p.m. April 8, 2008
I have come to see why so many people watch this show (that I used to call "trash"). I know David, and I have been extremely impressed by his abilities, but he certainly doesn't corner the market on talent. His peers at Murray High have been saying that they are not sure if they think it is in his best interests if he wins. Being tied to the "Idol" logo and such hasn't seemed to bring a lot of instant success, but they are all voting and rooting for him, as am I. Each of the contestants can make a case but it's crunch time and Jason and Kristy's lack of vocal prowess could cost them. They all have shown that they have talent both in their singing as well as general performing abilities. This has been fun to watch. I also vote for Brooke because she is just a good person who sings beautifully, dresses modestly and has a "Doris Day Goodness" about her.

Archuleta Album | 4:10 p.m. April 8, 2008
When David Archuleta has an album, I will 100% buy one!
You don't have to be from Utah to know that David is pure talent. I had picked him as the winner before I knew that. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that he was from my state.

I'm not from Utah, so am not being biased here. I DO think David Archuletta will take it. He can sing, he is humble, he seems very nice, he is a cutey, the young girls love him, the moms and grandma's like him, and yes, so do some of us young guys, dads and grandpas. I think it is funny how everyone considered him the wonderdog at the beginning, but now that he has become so popular, people are treating him like the underdog. I think in the end, it will be David A all the way.

I agree | 4:24 p.m. April 8, 2008
I think it might be in his best interest if he loses - but only in the finals because I want to hear him sing every week. I don't know the details of the idol contract but he will get a contract no matter what so maybe it would be better if he got to negotiate one? All I know is I will be sad when and if he ever leaves.

You said of Jason Castro:
Once he's gone, the cutest-boy voting bloc will no longer be split. His exit could only help Archuleta.

I have to laugh. Seems to me you're mighty afraid of the guy with the dreds who can't sing.

I guess if he can't sing...then why are you afraid of him?

Long live Jason Castro...who has a voice of an angel and looks to kill.

I'm a David Archuleta fan all the way! His soaring, emotive vocals are just superlative! I don't think any of the other contestants can hold a candle to him.

The others are talented, but I really think David's voice and musicality is a step above. He also has an extremely endearing personality and is way past cute.

His support is far broader than is commonly known. They did a poll recently and it turned out that 30% of his fan base was male, 70% was female. Only 29% of his fans were girls 17 and under ; 27% were 18-30 (16% female, 11% male), and 42% were 30 and over (25% female, 17% male). People who think it's tweens who are driving David's lead are mistaken.

I think David'll win it all. I'll do everything I can to make it happen for him. I think winning American Idol will be good because they'll shepherd him as he begins his career in the music business.

I am convinced he will be a Superstar. I've already called about tickets to the Idol tour. It's 300 miles one-way and the last concert I attended was Edgar Winter in the 1970s. How 'bout that?!:o)

Well, for me...it'll be David Cook because there's versality and the "it" factor in him. It will surely be a battle between David Archuleta and Jason Castro for the 1st runner-up spot. The 3 reamining girls are good in their own way but they'll soon be evicted one by one.
