Am I the only one who that that standing to sustain by first men, then boys,
then women, then girls is a bit archaic?

Who did the research for where the newly called members of the quorums of the
Seventy are from? Is it supposed to be where they were born? If not, someone
must have decided to just point to a map and stick that city behind the names.
I don't know very many of those men, but the ones I do know are not
correct.

I had the privilege of attending the Lomas ward that Elder Christopherson
attended while he was serving in Mexico City. What a humble hard working man.
He always had time to discuss anything with me. He and his wife are awesome!!!
I was not surprised at all that they called him to be the new apostle.

I really wish people would get off this whole black priesthood thing. God will
not bow down to the will of men. I'm black and I hold the priesthood and it
bothers me not that non of the Apostles are black. What the world wants or
believes is a good idea doesn't make it the will of God. God works on his
own time from not ours. He can see the big picture we can't. The church is
true rather the 12 are all black white or my favorite color green. Men lack
patients with the Lord and because of that claim his church is not true because
they say so. No one seems to be mad at God about the Levi's only holding
the priesthood at one time. It was ok then. No one seems to be mad that at one
time only the Jews were to have the gospel. But it was ok then. Close your eyes
and open your hearts and minds tot he truth world. God works at his on time and
will not ours. How I love being LDS. The truth has set me free.

To anonymous, jk, skeptic and all the other critics:
When you have contributed as much to the world and touched as many lives in selfless service as Thomas S. Monson has then maybe you would have room to talk and your criticms may have an ounce of credibility. In the mean time, do us all a favor and take your doubting, unbelieving comments elsewhere so that those of us that care to be uplifted by our beliefs can do so in peace. I am sure your energies could be put to better use elsewhere.

A few weeks ago while teaching a Sunday School class, I was referencing Elder
Christoffersen's talk (Oct. 2002, I think) about John 15:1-2, about the
Father purging (purifying, refining) the vines that bring forth good fruit, and
had the sudden thought that he would be the new apostle.
It's wonderful how God's spirit prepares us so that it is easy to sustain our leaders. When WE know that the calls come from God, we heed their counsel and direction, because the Spirit confirms to us that their words come God too. That is certainly not worshipping the men (or women) themselves; that is recognition of the nature of their callings, and respect for their efforts to be qualified.
It's also easy to see how callings may run in families: those families are making great efforts to pray, study, live uprightly--so of course those are the kind of people who are chosen. The skeptics and "anonymouses" (who bash instead of contribute) haven't paid that price; until they're willing to qualify, they never will be called.

My wife and I were trying to understand this sentence in the article:
"As executive director of the Family and Church History Department, Elder Christofferson was involved in the high-profile negotiations to block the names of Holocaust victims from submission for temple work."
Anyone out there have any more insight?? We are very excited about his call and look forward to hearing from him!!

Questions for those worried about the nationality of the new apostle: Lets say
we reverse the ratio, 1 person in the first presidency is american and everyone
else is not american, would that affect your faith in any way? Would it affect
your activity level? Would it change the message of the church?

For the 1:11 a.m. post on 6 April, it should be noted that N. Eldon Tanner had NO SONS, only daughters. I know this for two reasons: (1) (I am paraphrasing here) ...on his being asked why he put so much efforts into Scouting for a man with no sons, he stated that Scouting produced the kind of young men he wanted his daughters marrying; and (2), I am personally acquainted with one of his daughters, who with her husband, served as Ordinance Workers in the Toronto Ontario Temple during the late 1990's.
President Tanner was a wonderful man whom I once had the pleasure of meeting as a teenager when he once came to our seminary class.

It is interesting to me that when the LDS church calls a new member of it's
leadership there is a lot of comments about the churh is racist, because the
people who are called are of european ancestry. Last I checked, the Catholic
church has never chosen a Pope of colored skin. In fact when was the last time
the Pope was a young man from non-european desent?
The way I see it, the LDS church is still very young in africa and other parts of the world. He probably needs his strong and faithful saints to stay close to home to help build the kingdom there before they can lead the world.
In other words, Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. and quit your belly-acking.

Anonymous has no original thinking, is off course with his remarks, and very
uninofrmed as usual. He spends his life fighting the Kingdom of God. There is
always a few of his "ILK" around, biting at the heels of good people.
I wonder what he does for a living. He also knows nothing about nepotism in the
church...with the modern age, and huge growth of the Kingdom...nepotism is not
even a factor..inspiration and revelation rules. GO SAINTS, GOOOOO.

Elder Christofferson was an inspired choice. I'm glad that the First
Presidency call the men that Jesus Christ wants as His Apostles rather than
choosing someone that might be politically correct in the minds of men; whether
it be race, creed, color or nationality.

I knew shortly after I learned Todd Christofferson was a Mormon that someday he
would be an Apostle. He is a spiritually gifted man who cherishes and lives his
faith to the utmost. I pray he will be sustained in this new calling as he has
been through all the rest of the callings of the Church.
