What a waste of space | 12:38 a.m. April 1, 2008
Who cares??
This Show is Still On? | 12:40 a.m. April 1, 2008
It might surprise you to know that some of us are not even watching American Idol. What day is it on. What channel?
Anonymous | 1:12 a.m. April 1, 2008
A bigger waste of space is someone writing "Who cares??" when obviously lots of people do or the story would never have been written.

I watch it for background as i am doing other things on the Computer. Its a real dull season this season. However so isen't TV in General. Old Law and Order reruns and Cops, Americas Most Wanted are the shows that attract me. SNL is having a good year and I am a huge fan of Chapell. The only movie I have seen at the movies this year is Juno. I was about 12 when the Osmounds hit it big. Donny has hung in there and gone with the flow, his career has had its ups and downs. I have always been a huge fan of his. I feel somwhat bad for his sister. She seems to have come out the other side of her storm and appears to be doing better. We care because these people although they do not know us we know them and invited them into our homes on a weekly bases. Even daily if you consider the Talk Show and Donny's Game Show. I did not see the reunion show. They are aging well, the rest of us should age so well. We care because we can and it is not a waste of time.
Dear Anonymous | 5:10 a.m. April 1, 2008
I asked to know who cares, but you signed it "anonymous". Not very helpful to those of us who want to know for whom this tripe is written.
Friend | 5:11 a.m. April 1, 2008
Some of us do care about someone or something more than ourselves. News doesn't always have to be about who killed whom, but can simply be informative. Those of you who don't care.....get over yourselves!!!
wjgramma | 6:01 a.m. April 1, 2008
Who Cares? I care. I care a about what Donny Osmond is doing and what he has to say. I have been a Donny & Marie fan since the mid 70's when they had their television show. It was great entertainment, something we need more of now.

As for American Idol, I enjoy watching it, but I haven't been stuck to my television every time it has aired. I have taken more interest in it since I heard about David Archuleta being on the show, and because he is doing so well. I will probably watch the final programs and even vote for one of the contestants...not because a few of them are members of the LDS Church, but because they live in my home state or my daughter's home state.

I am only one of millions of "Idol" fans. The show helps young people develop and improve their singing talent, and it provides a great experience for them whether or not they win. If it weren't popular, it wouldn't be on the air. Let people enjoy what they find entertaining. If you aren't interested in it, there is no point in criticizing those who are.

wasn't there just a story on this?
MISSING | 6:48 a.m. April 1, 2008
A amall ASIAN girl is missing and we waste our news on the Osmonds or American Idol? Yep, our values are int he right place.
Texas | 7:16 a.m. April 1, 2008
The Osmonds have done a great deal of good.
Brooke | 7:20 a.m. April 1, 2008
I love Idol. What a great show! To those who don't, Get a LIFE.
re: Missing | 7:36 a.m. April 1, 2008
exactly. Why do we waste our time on worthless "news"?

Craig | 7:42 a.m. April 1, 2008
I would like to know what Donny and Marie think about the war in Iraq. I think it would be important for us to know.
Anonymous | 7:44 a.m. April 1, 2008
If you like 'Idol', watch it....if you don't, don't watch it. "WHO CARES' needs attention folks, but goes about it the wrong way. Don't feed him, just ignore him.
Eileen | 8:16 a.m. April 1, 2008
Good article. Fun, and a nice smile to begin the day. Donny would have killed the current crowd on Dancing with the Stars - I hope next season's group is as easy.
Colleen | 8:32 a.m. April 1, 2008
You know, there's usually more than one news story at a time. It's possible to read about multiple things that are going on.

A little girl has gone missing, and where did you hear about it? On the news. The same news that's reporting about David Archuleta. Neat how that works, huh?

That's the great thing about the news - you can get informed about as much or as little as you like.

I read about the missing girl. I also read about American Idol. The purpose of having news has been accomplished. Too bad some of you can't see it that way.
I don't know | 8:41 a.m. April 1, 2008
You may not have kids. I have a few and I am concerned with who they choose as role models. Donny O. has enjoyed fame and has remained grounded and true to the faith. He has developed his God-given talents and shared them with all. THAT IS IMPORTANT. Not everyone is so totally bored with life as you seem. By the way..what on earth can I do about war in Iraq, or about climate change or about gang warfare in Detroit or wherever. I focus on my own family and other matters where I need to be a positive influence. I am involved in my community where I work hard to try to make a difference. By the way, the LDS faith is in actual fact a global family. We really do care about each other due to all we have in common and all the good we can do worlwide for those less fortunate than ourselves.

Hi everyone!
I am a guy from HONDURAS in Central America. I do care about what David Archuleta is doing in American Idol. Actually I have been writing some articles about his performing in that Reality Show since he has a Honduran connection (his Mom -Lupe Archuleta- is a Honduran women). I Think that if you want to know about Irak's war or whatever bad news there are a lots of channel that give you this information... but not everything has to be bad news, people being killed in a stupid war. I agree, we can't ignore what is happening around us, but I also believe we have to exalt the good things like talent and the good gifts God has given to people.
About Donny'd performing I can't give my opinion since I haven't seen that show.
May God bless you all and give us wisdom to know what's His will for us.
Hugs and my best whishes from HONDURAS "The Heart of America".
Keep smiling!
Kathy | 8:57 a.m. April 1, 2008
Hey its good clean fun for the family to sit and watch unlike some of these stupid shows that are on now..
Hannah | 10:03 a.m. April 1, 2008
Is Brooke White mormon also?
Mike R. | 10:20 a.m. April 1, 2008
I've been a big fan of the Osmond Brothers, not so much of Marie and Donny. But you have to respect him for sticking it out against some pretty long odds. I'd like to see him play the Phantom sometime. I'd also like to see Crazy Horses get back on the charts.

As a Murray Alum, I hope David Archuletta goes all the way. The kid is good.
MoJules | 11:15 a.m. April 1, 2008
Hanna, Yes Brooke White is also LDS, I think that David receives more coverage because he is from Utah. The LDS Newsline has had stories about her.

OK, to all you that think it is so terrible to have a story about American Idol, if you will look at the top of the page, there are a bunch of sections, in case you don't see them, let me list them, Home, Utah, Community, World and Nation, Movies, Sports, LDS Newsline, Business, Arts and Entertainment (hmmm, wonder what you will read in that section?), Photos, Opinion, Obituaries, Classifieds and Archives. So I think that the purpose of this paper is to provide diversity, so they cover many areas. I have two pages open and while I was typing this, the picture of the kidnapped girl came up. I started to read at this site, to follow the Mine disaster last year, I come to read a variety of stories. I love to be able to read about David and other less heavy news, this is an election year and there are a lot of things going on, and I treasure some news that can bring a smile to my face
to all the negative commenters: | 11:13 a.m. April 1, 2008
There are people who like to read uplifting and positive things in the news not just about possible abductions and all the bad. It's not a waste of paper! If you don't like the positive side in newspapers stop reading about it and leaving your negative comments! I am interested in what the article said. I do watch American Idol and I care about Donny Osmond and what is being said here.
Re: Who Cares | 11:19 a.m. April 1, 2008
Obviously, you care, or at least you found the story interesting, or you wouldn't have bothered reading the article.

I haven't watched a single episode of American Idol, yet, but, a story about a "local boy does good" is ALWAYS interesting to the local community.

Good luck to David. Break a leg. :)
yo | 1:03 p.m. April 1, 2008
I am davids neighbor and the kid is a stud, im so happy for him and he is gonna kick butt for sure!!!!!!

To MoJules:

Want to hear the story about my mom encouraging me to play piano well when I was a kid? It's just as important as this Donny Osmond::David Archuleta thing.
Anonymous | 1:14 p.m. April 1, 2008
If your concerned about a missing girl, why did you read this article. Shouldn't you be out looking?
Daviana | 1:31 p.m. April 1, 2008
Good luck to David A. He is my favorite
I love him so much!
re: MISSING | 1:33 p.m. April 1, 2008
shouldn't you be out searching for this little girl instead of wasting your time reading about David Archuleta?
Ummmmm...yeah | 1:50 p.m. April 1, 2008
Tell me WHY this is news.
want | 2:04 p.m. April 1, 2008
if i wanted to read about the missing girl i would, but i dont want too, i want to read about his.
reader from Maui | 2:31 p.m. April 1, 2008
I check in with Deseret News to see what's happening in Utah. I like the VARIETY of news. My heart aches for the missing girl. AND I need the light news to move on. I've never been an Osmond fan; yet I have become an Osmond Family admirer as I've seen their careers grow over the years & I admire each one of them for all they have accomplished over 50 Years; & I appreciate them sharing their struggles in life. Who stays in the brutal world of Showbiz for that long? Not many. It's news because humans are social & curious about others. I like to learn about other peoples lives because it can inspire & educate my own life. Go David A. - I'm cheering for you & best of luck to all the Osmonds.
Melva McKenzie | 2:45 p.m. April 1, 2008
Good interesting article. Thank you. I always care about good LDS kids that are talented and get a chance. I cheer for them, even though I do not personally watch American Idol. Isn't it awesome Brooke has the reputation for being "pure" in a very unpure world? Boy, can that David sing. I have followed, though not closely, but with interest things have happened to the Osmonds over the years.
Eastern Observer | 3:06 p.m. April 1, 2008
How does I Don't Know know that Donny O. "has remained grounded and true to the faith"? Or for that matter, how do we know that he hasn't? Either way, all I know is that I quit watching the Donny and Marie talk show in the 90's because I was disgusted by the way in which he pranced around with female guest stars in an overly familiar way. The last straw was when that chick from King of Queens was all over his lap in a very suggestive way, and he, a married man and father, just played right along. Wonder if his advice to the 17-year-old Archuleta kid included anything about setting aside the budding music career to serve a mission when the time comes.
again to you negative people.. | 4:20 p.m. April 1, 2008
this is for snickerdoodle.. you jealous? It's not the papers fault or David A's fault that your mom didn't call the paper or encourage you to go in a talent show -- you make your own choices --so blame yourself and nobody else.
To Eastern Observer: you don't observe very well do you? You have no idea as to why Donny O. didn't serve a mission so don't judge him for that. So before you state a claim about something you know nothing about you shouldn't say anything.
Guitarboy | 4:51 p.m. April 1, 2008
Donny Osmond and the Osmond family are amazing, and I don't even own any of their CDs.

But just listen to the first four bars of "Love Me" (Donny Osmond solo) and you will hear awesome distorted rock guitars that compete with any heavy guitar song. The song transmutates (curiously) into a Chicago-type brass-driven song later, and today I don't know of many producers who would produce a song like that with heavy guitars giving way to the brass, but I thought it was genius.
Anne | 5:35 p.m. April 1, 2008
I am all for David A. I think he has an amazing gift. I enjoyed the article. Its great to hear about good things that are going on not just the tragedies. Thanks!
awesomeron | 6:14 p.m. April 1, 2008
At the top their career with the Donny and Marie show they where indirectly responsible for many thousands of contacts and conversions. I am sure that there are Bishops and Relief Society Presidents who got their first inkling of Mormonism while being fans of the show. Weren't they having fun while keeping the standards. In those day the Church also had Road Shows, the last one I remember was Sheridan Or in 1994. Then they had this big gathering in Portland at the AAA Ballpark ,that my daughter and her friend where a part of. It was a good show as the Wife and I went and also where Transportation several times for practices. I am glad now I went through all that and that someday that might be remembered through the haze and help bring both Girls back to activity. When my daughter moved the last time she would not give us her Snail Mail Address. She did when she found out Mom was not sending presents to a P.O. Box. However I have not bothered to contact her local Ward. They(the Ward) do not need the Grief or Abuse.
Profound | 6:32 p.m. April 1, 2008
Have to agree this article is ridiculous. "Responding to a question from the Deseret Morning News, Osmond said he would advise Archuleta to make sure he takes full advantage of the experience." Like the kid isn't doing that? All of the other "advice" given by Donny was equally profound. Hahaha
Anonymous | 7:04 p.m. April 1, 2008
Part of the experience is groupies. Do you think Donny meant to take advantage of that too?
Donny saved my life!!! | 8:15 p.m. April 1, 2008
A grown man called 'Donny' Ha, imagine you are having a life saving operation and they introduce you to your doctor and his name is Donny. Would fill you full of confidence wouldnt it???
Fast Eddit | 11:52 p.m. April 1, 2008
For those of you who commented that this article was a waste of space, the fact that you read it contradicts your claim.
wjgramma | 4:38 a.m. April 2, 2008
It's amazing the difference of opinion among those who "chose" to comment on this article. It must be of interest to attract so many comments, considering the choices we all had.

I say, "Good for Davia A. for doing his best"; and "Good for the Osmonds for sharing their talents with the world for 50 years. I remember when Donny was old enough to go one a mission, but was told he was doing enough good in the world to continue his career. I was pleased that he continued his career in wholesome entertainment. Their family has had their share of trials, but they move on.

In the Osmond Brothers' prime, the Jackson Brothers were also famous and had a good family image. Yet. look what happened to Michael Jackson. He lost his young boy look long ago, and his fame was based mostly on lost identitiy and not on family values. Yet, who am I to judge him? No one ever knows why anyone makes certain choices; and, therefore, we should never judge one another.

I'll be watching "Idol" tonight! Go David & Brooke! (I hear they have become good friends.)
