Jerry has won a lot of regular season home games. Beyond that, it is hard to find anything special.

Ok, I'm seeing a theme here, Playoffs Playoffs Playoffs, f-bombs, hot temper, playoffs, playoffs, unpopular style(??).

All of that stuff you said would be bad if Jerry had only coached for 6 years but as you have so keenly pointed out he has been at it for 20.

-Made the playoffs 17 out of 20 years including 15 in a row.

-Never lost to an 8th seed

-2 time Western Conference Playoff Champions

-6 appearances in the western conference finals

-7 time division champion

-Advanced past the first round 9 times

-He didn't know he was miked in the locker room

-He barely touched that ref

-he may not be loved like "The Zenmaster" but he is universally respected and recognised as one of the leagues elite coaches. See the NBA GM survey for proof.

-One of the winningest coaches of all time.

Stock was drafted in '84 and Malone in '85, in Frank Layden's last season '88, the jazz took the Lakers (with Magic and Kareem) to 7 games in the 2nd round. Sloan takes over in the middle of the following year and the jazz get swept in the playoffs (someone mentioned this above), but you say Sloan made John and Karl. Don't think so pal and you are probabley the only fan who believes this, even if you do like jerry this is a crazy comment.

Someone needs to disinfect the locker room! This flu thing is unfortunate and hitting at the worst time.

I meant no disrespect to John and Karl, they are truly two of the truly great players in the history of the game and you're right, they did it largely because of their own incredible effort. They where far from perfect though, it was a standard NBA talking point throughout the 90's that the Mailman couldn't deliver in the clutch, and he almost never did. John Stockton was possibly the greatest "pure" point of all time but his offensive game was average and in he couldn't be counted on in the clutch.

So I do recind my statements, however, I stand by the statement that they became who they are, and accomplished the things that they accomplished, in part because of Jerry Sloan and the "system" that the Sloan haters like to mock. They were a perfect fit for the system, it maximized their abilities and played to their strengths.

Wow Magnus:
-The only reason that Jerry is still around is because Larry Miller does not have the guts to fire him! He's a chicken!

-Thank goodness he's never lost to a 8th seed

-Yippie 2 times Western Conference Champions.. did he win the championship? NOPE!

-Wow, so he has a losing record in the Western Conference finals

-It shouldn't be that hard to be a division champion when you have John Stockton and Karl Malone!

-Wow, he advanced past the first round 9 times.. Extremely useless stat there!

-UH... didn't know he was mic'd in the locker room, are you kidding? he knew about a week in a advance he'd be wearing it!

-If he barely touched that ref I really don't think he would have been suspended for as long as he was

-Only reason he is an elite coach is because he's been around for so long.. bringing me back to the fact that Larry Miller is too chicken to fired him

-Once again.. should be winning games with players like John Stockton and Karl Malone!!!

Sorry buddy, none of your facts help you case here!
The Truth: re: Magnus | 4:34 p.m. March 31, 2008
In any other market, Jerry would have been fired for not winning a championship a long time ago. None of the above accomplishments should mean anything to Jazz fans. Sadly everyone around here including LHM seem to think that your above stats are great. Never lost to an #8 seed? who cares? 15 years in a row playoffs? who cares? with Stock and Karl, you should have made the playoffs 15 years in a row!! Ask Buffalo fans if they are happy to finish second in every Superbowl....yeah!! Jerry's a winning coach. He's just not a championship coach yet.....but give him another 20 years Jazz fans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Heaven forbid that we actually give someone else a try? That's like saying the Utes should have kept Mcbride for twenty years and they never should have hired Urban even though he left after a couple of years with a BCS game. Enjoy Kyle!!! he is no Urban!! Enjoy Jerry, He is no Phil. But in Utah we like being good....great that is something that we try for but without a great deal of CHANGE!! Mangnus you lose!! but then again....your posts are good they just aren't great!!!!!

Ok let's fire him.

Lets fire the coach who clearly has proven he can win, and lets go ahead and fire him when his team is coming off a surprise run to the conference finals, and is currently leading one of the youngest teams in the league into the playoffs in one of the toughest conferences in history.

You know what, you're starting to make a lot of sense, I think we should fire him.

I'm sorry I've gotten a little off track here, but here's the point...

If Sloan was starting to look like Tom Landry and the Jazz were lottery bound I would be right there with you, but the fact is that he is still a great coach, he's still winning, and I think he's earned the same kind of respect fans show to the players he coached.
bigjazzfan | 7:20 p.m. March 31, 2008
Why do people continue say ad nausem that jerry got the most out of his players???

That simply isn't true.

Players who have left the team have done the same or better as they did with the jazz.

The fact is Sloan gets the same as every other coach out of his players.

So stop this nonsensical myth that jerry gets more out of his players than anyone else, it just isn't true.

For the Jazz to get to the next level, and that is a championship, they need to get rid if sloan.

The sam reason the utes needed to get rid of mcbide.
The sam reason byu needed to get rid of cleveland.

It's been fun guys, but I think my time here is at an end...
Jazzsmack | 8:31 p.m. March 31, 2008
bigjazzfan makes a great point.

Slaon is not getting more pout of his players, he just getting what every other coach gets out of them.

What a myth. I am glad someone else has opened their eyes.

All these so called true jazz fans seem to be blinded by love.

Jazz probably would have won chamiopship by now if they hadn't traded it away. (the pik that would have been magic johnson)

It' all about getting the right players.

griffiths, stockton, malone, gail goodrich (the player we got for the pick), were not the right players. Magic would have been.

I have a feeling if larry brown had coached the jazz we probably would have won by now.

It's clear the team misses Ak and okur more than they would ever miss boozer.
