Nobody should care about soccer. It's a worthless sport, and should be
left out of America.

I watched the entire game today and until Chicago scored I thought "RSL is
systematically working this team."
If Chicago doesn't score, RSL had a near perfect game. Sure we could have and maybe should have scored more, but we are always going to miss some shots.
Chicago got lucky and they looked really bad. And I think they looked really bad not because they are a bad team but because RSL really just worked them the entire game.
RSL look very good this year and our bench is also looking very very nice this year. This will be a much different team this year. I am excited to see them play on grass and not bouncy field turf.

new season, new players, same coach, same result. why didn't kreis use one
of his subs late in the match to bulster his defensive effort. same mental
breakdown as many games over the last 3 years. draws for this team,
particularly when ahead feel very much like defeats! change the coach for one
with successful professional "coaching" experience!

RSL is making it difficult to remain a fan when there is no TV or radio
coverage. I am at least happy with the dominant performance even if they could
not convert.

It's not really about the Blanco goal. It's about not scoring for the
91 minutes that let up to it (they GOT a goal, but Chicago's Bakary Soumare
SCORED it). Dominating the run of play, you got to go for the kill in those
games.

Bad management, poor coaching, poor players. Real has about 3 more years before
they disappear. Why they have so little pride in Salt Lake, that you can't
even find the words Salt Lake on their uniforms.
Why do they call this "Major League Soccer"? Everyone knows the world's best soccer players, play in Europe, not North America. North American Soccer League would be more appropriate.

The Fire are a great team. the Real franchise is still very young. for them to
do as well as they did last night, means they have a great season ahead of them!
and soccer is a game that takes true skill, and is more of a sport then any
other!!!!!

It was a heart breaking tie, but what's even more heartbreaking is that
Andy Williams is still starting for RSL, Its sad to he shouldn't even be
playing for the reserve squad.

The match was a shoving match. Whenever REal couldn't steal the ball, they
shoved or tripped the other guy to get it. Fire did it a bit too, but mainly
when REal was in scoring position which is why REal's best scoring
opportunities were stopped (should have been awarded penalty shots on two of
them).
I don't know if the league tells the ref to let the non-injury fouls go uncalled or what.?.
REal needs to focus on playing the ball more and less on the shoving match, then maybe they'll get the calls when they're in scoring posistion.
Oh, also, CLEAR the ball way out when you are near your own goal; DON'T make short passes. That shouldn't have to be said!!!

Give me a break; Andy Williams played an incredible game. He ran like a mad man
and covered both ends of the field. It is obvious that he showed up in shape
this year. I thought that our midfield played as a group and dominated the
game. The defense also looked solid. Andy is a true starter and showed it
Saturday. I am excited about this year. This is a new team and once our
forward third finishes things are going to be a lot of fun.
As for the negative commentors. You remind me of the Governor of New York that just resigned. He pretended to be fighting prostitution ect while visiting them. All of you negative blogers it is O.K. to just come out of the closet and enjoy the sport in the open like the rest of the world.

How come so many soccer games end in a tie. Are they afraid of hurting each

(Simple answer for stupid people) Also, unlike baseball they decide to end games rather than playing on for 5 hours.
RSL looked great. I have never seen an RSL team play so well. Very unlucky not to get the result. However, it is a 30 game season. If they keep playing like this they will be in the playoffs. Next week will be tough. A tie at Chivas would be like getting a win.

Give me a freaking break. Kries made the right choice by putting in Deucher,
Findley, and Dema. First off no one goal lead is safe, and when you are
dominating every facet of the game it's wise to put in players with skill
and speed to control the ball. Also besides the four players that play the back
line, Talley, Beckerman, and Dema are all defensive minded players. He made the
right subs and he had the right game plan, the problem was that players
couldn't finish the chances that they had but I am confident that this will
not happen again this season.

Actually, RSL hasn't scored yet since the Chicago player knocked it in his
own goal. By the way Mr. Answer, all of the other sports play some form of OT
to break a tie. Why can't they play an overtime period or go to a
shootout?

Let all the soccer haters say what they want. Bottom line is that RSL led the
league in attendance on Saturday by a long shot- 20,000! Isn't that what
the Jazz usually average? So stop complaining about the stadium! The debate is
over and only 13,000 (less than what RSL averages in attendance) signed your
stupid pathetic petition. The team looked great, unlike last year the goal
Chicago scored was earned and not due to any one player 'choking'.

In soccer you do all your talking on the pitch during the minutes that count.
Everything else is a waste of breath because you only change one thing when you
get in the locker room - your kit.
Sometime teams are equal in those 90 minutes on the field, so a tie is the only fair result, as it was at RE. No point in lying to everyone just to keep the sponsors and TV execs happy.

It is unreasonable to ask players who play 90 minutes (which is more than any
major sport that requires a lot of physical contributions) to go into overtime
when you are allowed only 3 subs and no timeouts. That's why overtime
periods and shoot outs are only required when there needs to be a winner but
with the way the point system is set up its not necessary. Get over it, who
cares if people tie. It's part of the game and part of the fun.

A lot of people new to soccer don't understand this, but league standing is
determined by a point system. A team gets 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie
and 0 points for a loss. As the season progresses, it becomes part of the
individual team strategy to try to win a game, or simply settle for a tie. Ties
in soccer add complexity and strategy to the overall soccer season.
In MLS it gets a little muddied by having a playoff system at the end of the season. Other leagues simply play their regular season games and crown as winner the team with the most points.
Maybe that helps to understand why we do ties.

Shootout?? Why would we want a shootout? MLS tried that when the league first
started and everyone hated it so they did away with it. If people like overtime
in other sports thats fine, but it doesn't make soccer any less enjoyable
because it's a little different. Every sport is different so cheer for the
ones you like and quit trying to change the others.

Painful to see the equalizer at the end. But this is a much better RSL team
than we've seen. We could be downright not embarassing this year.

I was at the game and I loved it right up to the last few minutes. To me it
looked like they played on their heels the last few minutes when they gave up
the goal. I have never been a fan of stalling like that in any sport. I think
you are better off to keep to your game plan and still try to win. To me when
you stall you limit your game. RSL had played the majority of the game on
Chicago's side of the field and when you get defensive minded you allow the
other team to control the game. I am not against stalling for short periods of
time but I was disapointed with the effort to attack late in the game. Chicago
put in several forwards to try to score so why didn't we attack and go over
their heads into a depleated defense?

Most sport fans in America are so ADD that they can't pay attention to more than one game at a time so the cumulative point system used by soccer is beyond their comprehension. That a game can end in a tie, and one team is still ahead of the other in point totals requires more than a 3rd Grade math ability. Sadly that is lost on many, so they put all their effort and energy into blogging about how much they hate soccer.
But yet...for some reason...we'll go nuts for NASCAR and Golf...hummm...makes sense...NOT!

Trolling hate comments are made in these forums, but I don't think that
makes it appropriate for soccer fans to insult "Most sport fans in
America". Make fun of the poster, but I'd bet that there are some
non-soccer fans (not knee-jerk soccer haters, just those who don't
understand the game) who are put off by comments like that of the above
poster.
The level of intelligence of those who post comments on a soccer article attacking soccer as a sport is however unquestionably low. Make fun of those people all you want, but for the sake of the possibly curious non-soccer fan, leave out those ad hominem attacks on average American sport fans.

Andy Williams still deserves to start, just cuz he doesnt run around like a
chicken with his head cut off like fans want him to doesnt mean he should be on
the reserve squad. Him and Beckerman were hooking up wonderfully. I wonder why
Robbie Finley isnt starting though, he came on and right away was a spark to the
team. He is so fast, and in my opinion better then the two who started.

However when Finley "dives" (it wasnt a dive the replay showed) he gets booked right away. I know the officiating is always bad in the MLS, but that was some of the worst and both ways at that. Yes, they did count the blades of grass, and since it is a plastic turf, they
got a big fat 0 for that number. That was a pretty clever comment on your
part.
The stadium probably looked empty as you drove past because they rope off the upper sections and limit fans to the lower bowl. When you drive past the stadium, most of the lower seats are not visible to you.
Next time instead of just driving past, come on in. It looks a whole lot different from the inside!

Yes there was 20,000 there. Fans seem to come into the stadium late. At kickoff
it was pretty empty was starts to fill in quickly. 20,000 was probably an
accurate number.

MLS IS KNOWN TO INFLATE THEIR NUMBERS. mark zeigler from the sandiego
union-tribune wrote an article about it in the last 2 years. REAL salt lake
inflated thier numbers by more than 2000 seats and even gave out over 9000 free
tickets to the same game. they havent announced an accurate number yet in 3
years, this year will be no different.

Every sport in the nation probably inflates their numbers. It's the
American way. Please don't make it look like soccer is the only sport that
does this. If you weren't actually there, you don't have room to
