What better news could our ailing cougar ears but hear...the defense dominated. Let's hope it continues. If the cougs finially have a GREAT defense,(read here secondary) to complement the offense and defensive line...we will have a season to be remembered in the making...how exciting it that!!!

Hello? Defense always dominates | 8:50 a.m. March 29, 2008
the first scrimmage. Defenders react, which is easier to do than the guy learning the offense. Every year, this is the same headline. DN try to be a little more imaginative.

Good News | 9:28 a.m. March 29, 2008
The experienced offense needs to be humbled a bit in order to keep that edge and desire to keep improving over the summer. And the defense got some nice confidence as well. I predict Hall's temper will cost us a game before his career is over. He will probably be hit a bit more his senior season when he has 4 new offensive line starters and his maturity may be tested a bit. I think by the second game our defensive backfield will be a better unit than we ended with last season. Everything is in place - we just need to keep that edge and keep geting better into fall.

It looks like both byu and UTAH started off their first full pad practices with great defensive effort.

So even... | 2:11 p.m. March 29, 2008
The defense was putting pressure on the QB -- so even the Cougar defense is beating Dallas Reynolds?

I witnessed a 1/2 hour of practice with players working on position mastery and going hard through drills. Some of the QB's throws weren't so accurate during 7 on 7 drills and I saw several dropped passes which resulted from decent coverage coupled with some big licks. But from what I hear, the vet receivers have been showing up the secondary in recent practices. I did see Jaime Hill run his defensive players through some pass-rushing drills. I was impressed with the physicality on both sides. On several, a few guys were pancaked and there was some loud pops. The team goes through circuit drills with the horn sounding to change stations. I was allowed to view part of practice from a friend in the program. The defensive victory will serve the offense well. Humility will only aid them in their quest for a perfect season. Bronco and his staff are doing a tremendous job and it's so exciting to be a Cougar fan today. GO COUGS!!!

The defense dominated over an experienced offense that didnt have the running game playing? Wow, maybe this defense can keep up with Utah States offense this year, but not Utahs.

The offense is always over rated. They go from bragging that they are unstoppable to not being able to have any consistancy. They produce a lot of penaltys and often just dont look like they are doing what they want to do. It just seems like they arent following any plan of attack.

This is BYU football so we should all take what is said with a healthy dose of salt and skepticisum. You will end up closer to the truth if you do.

Just read a great ESPN article on BCS Busters. BYU was listed as #1 UTES were #4 and TCU was between 8-10 all given legitaqate shots. Looks like the MWC Bowl success did not go Unnoticed! Look forward to a great year for all. Can't wait for some football!!!!

we don't need to stop utah's offense- just be close enough at the end of the game and get a 4th and 18.

Lowest Point Totals | 7:03 p.m. March 30, 2008
I love how at team that barely put 10 points on the board is all of the sudden unstopable. So when does the "Mack Truck" start teaching Harvey all those moves? You know, the ones he used to out rush Unga in last season's grudgematch?

BYU's lowest point total last season was 17. With Utah being the offensive juggernaut we all know them to be, surely they didn't have games of 10, 7, and 0 points last year, correct?

Huh, adding together the THREE lowest point totals for Utah's offense equals the lowest point total for BYU. Your offense is simply terrifying.

For those bashing the offense just remember the defense goes against the offense everyday and knows the offense inside and out. The defense has an advatage during these spring practices and they should do better than the offense. If not I would be worried.
