St. George metro area growth ranks 2nd in U.S.

When I start thinking of moving to Saint George, I turn my oven to high with the door open, and then I stand in front of it. Within a couple of minutes I lose my desire to move to Saint George.

When I think of traveling to northern Utah in the winter, I stick my head in the freezer for a few minutes and then I lose my desire. I go outside for a walk through the red rocks in a light jacket instead.

People are funny. This hot and cold thing--ridiculous. Fact in the St. George area there are 5 months of beautiful living weather. March 15 to June 1st, and Sept 15 to Dec 1st. Other than that it is 100 plus or teens and 20's weather with alot of wind. Who's kidding who I live here. This place is overated and over priced for sure.

Yeah, it can get hot, but the region is one of the most diverse and beautiful in the world. How can you not love Bryce, Zion's, Arches, Grand Canyon, Dead Horse Point, and Lake Powell? For adventurous young people, it is such an amazing place! I don't see it as much of a retirement place, but what do I know if it's such a booming place. I'm young and healthy and love adventure, and that part of the country is a hidden gem with scenery and adventure--it's so incredible!

I must admit to pretty cursory read of this article, but one word I didn't see was "water". Where is the water going to come from? Same question for that nasty overgrown suburb called Phoenix, and to that abomination of human settlements, Las Vegas. Oh wait, Las Vegas is going to steal it from Utah, if I recall.

Of course, all those places (and also the Wasatch Front) could probably sustain viable water use if we'd stop growing grass everywhere. The word for the day is "xeriscape".

I grew up here and love living in this area, no where else I have gone can you be so many place's in such a short time and see such a diffrence, Mountain's 15 min. away, desert near by nationaly known lakes within 2 hours the ocean within 5 hours. This is a great place to live raise kids and grand kids, the people here are what really make it.

Interesting to use a percentage of the population as your base for the claim.

I suppose this means that 10 people moving into Orederville will trump you.

Come down to Maricopa County in AZ amnd see "real" growth. With real people, not statistics....

This really stinks.

Saint George absolutely depends on large numbers of people with lots of money and no need of employment to move in and bring their money with them. I am afraid that that sort of person will soon be in very short supply and that St George has a seriously dysfunctional future in store.

It was amazing at one time; now it's Los Angeles. Smog, traffic, water shortages, ATVs ripping up the desert. You St Georgies took heaven and turned it into hell.

Water? Oh - no problem! - the plans are to get it from the Colorado River (Lake Powell), just like LV, Phx, Tucson and every other arid place that can't sustain itself. The environmentalists are going to get their way in draining Lake Powell. With current drought conditions, where will the water come from when it dries up? But let's just keep building the golf courses and enticing inmigration and outsourcing the service jobs to illegals. I don't even recognize St. George anymore. What a shame.

Yes temps are at night, and mornings like 100's are during the daytime not at night. Duh!

Thanks for the "duh!" I didn't get what you were saying until you added that. Thanks for the clarification that it gets cold in the middle of the night in January in St. George. Really, thanks for the tip.
