the "Church" should get out of sports. Just because you support a
school thats affliated with a church does not make you any better than any other
member of the church that supports a school that is not affliated with a church.

sarah cummmard was not throwing dRINKS or PUNCHES. she was just trying to get
people off the coURT because THERE were NO POLICE or ushers STOPPING THEM.
don't make up lies to make yourself feel better. she probably was scared
for her baby and husband... and felt like she had to do something. Yes she
probably shouldn't have ran out there and put herself in danger but can you
blame the girl? it was out of controll and an embarassment to las vegas. you

Many of you are forgetting that maybe these BYU wives are tired of being
harassed because their husbands just so happen to be among the best players on
the court, let alone in the MWC. After last years tourney game BYU's #30
got hit in the head from a UNLV fan (pure stupidity). These wives are probably
gettting pretty tired of UNLV fans showing up on their home court feeling like
they can do anything they want and obviously getting away it. Don't mess
with the wives - they're pretty tough.

It is NOT a neutral site if UNLV fans don't have to pay 100 bucks for gas,
then another 100 bucks for a hotel, miss a day (or two) of work, and buy tickets
on top of that. If I lived 15 minutes from the Thomas & Mack Center, I
would be there in an instant!

It's time to stop having the MWC tourney in LV. Maybe in a few years, if
the Rebel fans can stop being thugs, it can return. They have a great team,
it's a fun rivalry, but too many fans are violent drunks.

Byu fans stop your crying. Last year UNLV was a better team then you were thats
why they beat you and thats why they went to the sweet sixteen when you lost in
the first round. This year you guys blew it in the second half when you lost
all of your intensity and basicaly stoped playing. So two years in a row you
guys finished first and lost in the tournament. While the home court helps its
not the only reason. Arizona came in to the T&M and killed UNLV by 20 and
byu has a lot more talent then Arizona so stop making excuses. The tournament
will be in vegas for at least a few more years so instead of crying all off
season figure out a way to play better in the T&M. It seems people have
forgotten a bowl game where byu fans stormed the feild and started fights with
the opposing teams fans. I guess your memories are short in utah!

Maybe it would have been good if Cecil did get hit with something. Maybe then
he would do something about the crappy MWC officials that continue to make bad
TV and tournament deals. Who cares about the game-security should be at the
game to make everyone safe. Better luck next year--maybe take out all the
seats--that would be a better barrier (and a little more fair for the teams that
have to play UNLV). By the way, Utah got beat by UNLV too--everyone should be
mad about them playing on their home court.

This stuff makes me ill. They have this kinda of sport in a square ring under
the rules of the WWF or Friday night fights. It used to be the fight of the
week by Gillette. As you look at the entire fracus that went on you have to
admit that it's fun to be a winner, and a gracious loser. But the cause of
most fighting, hitting, slugging, gouging, etc. is in the plastic cups.
It's usually called BEER. Quit selling beer and the games would have less
fights, squabbles, etc. However, they'd still have a loser and a winner.
Too bad people would be able to tell who it was. In the near future you may see
BYU eliminate their entire sporting program. I hope not but it's a
possibility. Maybe they'll announce that on the football field where UNLV
loses every game.

If there is a missing link in the evolution chain, I found it yesterday;
it's UNLV fans. You can't convince those people are human. They act
like neanderthals, loudly using the F-word every other word as they taunt BYU
fans, make bigoted statements against Mormons, and talk vulgarly about things
they'd like to do to the BYU cheerleaders. They are gross and moronic.
Anyone who defends them or their actions doesn't have a fully-developed
cerebellum or sense of decency. They're not just idiots; they're

All of you who keep saying BYU fans stormed the field after the Vegas Bowl and
so have no room to complain are completely missing the point: It was a neutral
field! Who cares if you storm a neutral field? That's not a slight to
your opponent, who doesn't feel inclined to protect their "turf"
because it isn't theirs. UNLV rushed the court because it IS their home
"turf" and that sentiment, combined with alcohol, leads to brawls.
SLC'er asked why it is that fights only happen when BYU is one of the teams
involved. Well, SLC'er, 2 reasons: First, religious bigotry (I heard
plenty of that at the game Saturday); and second, no other school in the MWC
carries the name recognition and level of success in nearly every sport that BYU
has. Everyone wants to beat the team with the target on its back. Kudos to
UNLV for doing that, but as others here have written, the bigotry, verbal, and
physical abuses BYU fans suffer at road games in the MWC (and PAC10)are
disgraceful and would produce much more serious brawls if they were directed at
any other team. But they're not.

UNLV won their first two games in the tournament on questionable calls - home
cooking calls. They should never have been in the tournament to begin with. Utah
was robbed (and I'm a BYU fan). Those calls would have never been made on
another floor. The announcers were a disgrace. The Mountain is a disgrace. The
Mountain West leaderships is a disgrace for not putting this tournament on a
neutral floor - and a place where I don't have to cover my kids' eyes
as we drive to our hotel. LAs Vegas - why?

This is just wrong and stupid. Why on earth would the MWC allow this nonsense
and further, why do they allow the conference tournament played on a non-neutral
site among the most disorderly crowd in the entire conference. When will they
wake up and stop being utter fools when it comes to managing a conference. Why
not play the conference at Enery Solutions arena or at least another neutral
floor? You would think that their stupidity would somehow lessen over time, but
I think they are becoming even more thickheaded. Wake up MWC and stop being the
laughingstock of the entire nation.

I all for a neutral site, provided its not Denver. Since conference basketball
tournaments have become the equivalent of bowl games in football (i.e, just
another excuse for fans to take a fun road trip), why not hold the tournament in
Reno? It is neutral, it still has all of the vices of Las Vegas, and I'm
sure that Reno would bend over backward for a chance to host the MWC tourney.
I realize that Reno in March (OK, at any time of year), is not exactly a top ten tourist destination. But at least it would be neutral site, and there would probably be fewer druken UNLV fans.

Ok all you BYU bashers, lets put the tournament on BYU's floor and see who
comes out on top! It is not fair that the Rebels have "home court"
every year in the tournament! Its to bad its all about money, and not about the
best basketball team...I got VERY tired of ALL the calls going UNLV's way
through out the tournament....TCU should have won their game with UNLV...what a
horendous call at the end...if anything wink fouled....but a little home cooking
and guess what...UNLV wins...surprise...surprise! Same with Utah..a few
questionable calls...and who wins...yep UNLV.....MOVE THE TOURNAMENT SO IT IS
FAIR!!!!!!

It has been pretty well established that UNLV fans are classless. It has also
been pretty well established that BYU deserved to lose the game because for the
last 30 minutes of a 40 minute contest they were awful. But any one who knows
anything about sports knows that it is insanity to play a tournament at a
location that makes the regular season champion play an away game, in the
chapionship game, while a team with a lesser record has a home game in the
tournament championship game. Yes, BYU deserved to lose. But UNLV did not earn
the right to have that game played on their home court. And if the Vegas fans
keep it up, by next year, there will be no opposition fans at their UNLV
invitational (i.e. MWC championship game) because no rational fans would think
it worth the risk. Isn't there any way that we could get out of this
ridiculous conference?

USU has some problems with UNLV in the past. There fans and team assaulted our
players. We fixed the problem. We simply placed a water bomb under Tark and
his cronies dying them all Aggie blue. Some how that seem much more mature that
anything BYU or UNLV fans did.

The home court advantage comes NOT just from the rowdy fans (and EVERY school
has them). UNLV gets to play on their home floor, shoot at the baskets they
practice on, dress in their home locker room, sleep in their own beds and feast
on their own home cookin' (in more ways than one). It is the building that
they "live" in for 6 months of the year! What MWC coach wouldn't
want those advantages for his team in a conference tournament! If conference
fans enjoy going to Las Vegas, great, but do not give one team all those
advantages that the other 8 teams can't have. It's a no brainer. You
can keep the tournament in Vegas for the financial benefits (that's what
drives college sports), but move the games to a neutral court to make it fair to
all 9 teams.

Rushing the field at the Vegas Bowl a sin? Not hardly. I think that if you checked blood alcohol content, I'm sure the BYU fans would have registered very low or nothing.
This situation was enhanced by alcohol being sold on site. It still may have been ugly, but was made more so by under age drinking.
Listen up Larry Miller, Alcohol of any kind has no place at a sporting event. Fans won't boycott sports just because they can't drink beer. It is time to ban it totally. When you mix beer and fans, crap happens that would otherwise be avoided.

UNLV out played us in the second half - clearly they displayed a greater
determination to win and they executed better than we did. Did the home court
play a role - you bet. Last year the UNLV fans in front of us were obnoxious
and threatend to start a fight. I stayed home this year as I did not need to be
verbally abused by a drunk fan.
UNLV can't play football, they can play BBall on there home court where their fans are loud and drunk. True not all UNLV fans are rowdy's but there is no place for the behavior of many to ruin it for all.

Vegas fans who claim their victory was not based on home court advantage are
delusional. If that game is played in Provo BYU wins by nearly 30 (just like
last time). BYU won the league fair and square. How do you answer that Rebels?

Adams is a very good player. But don't say Saturday night's win

When the tourney was held in Denver, a much more attractive city to travel to than Salt Lake or Provo , it drew flies, even the championship game.

When is the MWC going to give the winner of the regular season title the home
court. I realize that it is all about MONEY, but UNLV will win the tourney 4 out
of 5 years because it is on their home court. They don't have to play to
win the regular seaon title because they know they will have the home court
advantage in the tourney. The old days the regular season winner hosted the
tourney, so you knew if you won the title you hosted the tourney. Again I
realize it is about the money, but lets be serious here.

Why doesn't anyone bring up the fact that the MWC moved the tournament to
the Pepsi Center in Denver for 3 years and it was a complete disaster. The
conference lost money. No one wants to go to Utah to watch games it is too cold
and there is nothing to do. I am LDS, a UNLV graduate and I am a Rebel Fan!!!
I have been since 1977, when the Rebels went to the Final Four. UNLV is a
basketball school and BYU is a football school! How many Final Fours has BYU
been to? UNLV has been to four and has won a National Championship. I went to
all of the games at the Thomas and Mack and it seems like all of the schools do
not like BYU. BYU fans talk just as much, if not more than anyone else. Sarah
Cummard was shown on tape trying to tackle UNLV fans and stop them from going on
the court. Rushing the court is a tradition, and I am sure BYU would have done
it as well. Guess what, UNLV is going to be better next year! Good Luck and
learn to win on the road!

I do agree that the MWC tourney should be at a neutral site and not at
UNLV's home court but at the same time good teams will find a way to win.
UNC has beat Duke 3 years in a row at Cameron Indoor and it is one of the
craziest places in college sports to play. You can point it out in every sport.
Champions win on the road. Prime example is the Superbowl champion Giants. They
won 3 road games to make the superbowl. They were undefeated on the road. Look
at Georgia. Teams that have the heart of a champion will find a way to win no
matter the circumstances and right not BYU is a good team but does not possess
the heart of a champion. They are much closer than in recent years but they lack
a lot of heart and determination still. Quit complaining about unfairness and
just win. Champions beat the odds and all I can say is that BYU has not proven
to be champion quality......yet. I am a disapointed Y fan too. Disapointed in
the way they close games but more by the BYU fans. :(

What happened at the game was terrible. There should never be a brawl like this
or anything close to it. I love sports. They are a great passion for me but it
is still a game. And for everyone blaming the UNLV fans, you need to be quiet.

I stopped watching tv 5 years ago and after reading these comments and the
article, I am glad I did. Why not just go outside and shoot some hoop yourself
and get some exercise?
I remember playing the hoop when I was a young 12 year old scrapper and really its just a kids game. Is it that important to one's self esteem? Its really just a fashion show for the Nike Adidas, etc. The BYU fans should have been giving out pass along cards and massages. Maybe even hoisting the UNLV fans who rushed the courts on their shoulders. That would have been more proper for the LDS!

And to ute fans out there- stop telling BYU fans to quit whining, I remember a coach named majerus that whined about conference tournaments more that anyone else. And the funny thing here is that the coach and players at BYU aren't the ones complaining, they know they got beat- it's just some of the fans that are frustrated after being the conference champions 2 years in a row and losing the championship game on the road.
And to those of you that say that the home court is only worth 10 points and BYU lost by 15 are idiots. wink adams doesn't hit all three of those 3s on a neutral or away game, along with a lot of other things that wouldn't have happened. It's too bad that we'll never know what would've happened on a neutral court(even in LV).
Overall though, Cummard's early turnovers, JT's late horrible shot selection, and Plaisted's not showing up to play against a team with nobody even near his size cost BYU the game.

Enough from the holier-than-thou BYU fans. My autistic son was cheering for the
Rebels in the closing minutes of the game and was sucker-punched by a BYU fan as
they 'stormed out' with 2 minutes on the clock...simply because he was
cheering for the Rebels.

You BYU fans sound like a bunch of sniveling, poor losers. I watched the game
and UNLV outplayed BYU in the second half. End of story.
As far as the wives of Cummard and Plaisted,it seems to me they would have made a much bigger statement if they had ignored the taunts rather than responding to them. They were no better than the others by responding and need to practice a little graceful losing.
I also watched the UNLV game at BYU. The BYU fans were just as rowdy and taunted the UNLV players, specifically Joe Darger.
Byu fans thought they had this game locked up before the teams even hit the court. When their team lost they started stomping their feet like a bunch of spoiled brats. Accept the fact that you were out played and get on with your lives.

I watched most of the MWC tournament on Tv. Would someone please answer this
question. Why do we have running utes, running lobos, running rebels, running

How is it that BYU rushing the field didn't prompt a similar article, Dick?
Remember that the bowl officials there also asked for fans to refrain from
rushing the field.
And BYU fans and beat writers also are self-righteous enough to think that those things only happen at other places. As a Utah State fan, I've never been treated so poorly at any venue than I was in Provo.
Somehow, Y fans think that they're justified for stereotyping other fans as drunks or calling them names or picking fights. They think God is on their side - and it's the worst hypocracy you can find.
But just the tone of the article not trying to remain fair and balanced is funny. It is the fuel feeding the attitudes of Y fans.

My first and likely last trip to MW tournament.There were 2 UNLV "fans
" behind us that ushers and police removed for the game in the first.They
were shouting Vile comments about the LDS fatih and threating anyone , man ,
woman or child they presumed were LDS and BYU fans.I was surprized that there
were more Bars,Jack Daniels and Margaritas available and being sold than
"RebelDogs".This certainly does not help UNLV a decent team . But NO
WAY do they win this tournament on a neutral site ,at BYU or Utah. Remember
their 26 point lose at BYU ?

Another good reason not to take my family to any thing in Vegas. I can't
even imagine having my young childen around the vulgar, drunken, idiotic fans of
UNLV. Some of The University of Wyoming fan are not much better either. The
MWC has definetely taken a step backward and seams more interested in catering
to the drunken vulgar fans than in providing an atmosphere condusive to family
entertainment. It is a sad state of our societys acceptance of inappropriate
behavior of a few ruining it for everyone, especially our young children.

Wow, I cannot believe the level of hypcrasy from the commenters on this board.
The is the exact, holier-than-thou attitude that creates so much anomosity
between the othe schools and BYU. I keep reading about the bad behavior by the
UNLV fans, but hardly anybody has mentioned the bad behavior by BYU's first
lady of basketball, Mrs. Sara Cummard. Let's see, she dumped her drink on
fellow spectators, threw punches at other fans, cursed out Curtis Terry with
language that would make most sailors blush, and got into a confrontation with a
news reporter. Seems to me her behavior was as bad if not worse than some of
the UNLV fans. Hardly the type of person I would want representing my school.
A little piece of advice for those of you that think BYU can do no wrong, admit
that there was bad behavior on both sides and move on.

cry harder because you tried to play MWC rent-a-cop, and you got your stuff

apologists, please, for the love of Tark, tell me you're really not this

UNLV is the ONLY team in the country that gets to play on their homecourt in a conference tournament REGARDLESS OF WHAT THEY DID DURING THE REGULAR SEASON. The MWC tourney is at UNLV's T&M Center no matter if the Rebels finished first, second, last in the league. All your silly examples are teams who won their conference and got the homecourt as a reward.
The MWC tourney has been at UNLV's homecourt for two years in row (even though UNLV didn't win the conference championship) and is slated to be there for at two more years, NO MATTER WHAT UNLV DOES.
WHY IS THIS SIMPLE FACT SO HARD FOR YOU TO UNDERSTAND???!!!
That's it. I've tried. If you don't get it now you never will.
(PS - UNLV's homecourt arena is also the ONLY one in NCAA basketball with an open bar that sells hard liquor. Which might explain why some of you are so painfully unable to grasp such rudimentary concepts.)

Hey anonymous. Before calling upon the holy name of Tark, you need to get your
facts right before making your comment. Memphis (Conf USA), NM State (WAC), and
San Diego (WCC) all played their conference championships on their own courts.
Only Memphis had won their conference regular season title. Further, I
don't recall UNLV deciding where the conference championship should be
played. After the failure in Denver, the MWC CHOSE to go back to a proven
successful venue, the TMC. Sure, the REBELS have an advantage of playing on
their homecourt, but what do you want them to do? Do you want them to decline to
play because the MWC has chosen to play there? I'm sure BYU would not
decline an opportunity to host the MWC tournament. But, that won't happen.
If it didn't work in Denver, it will never work in that mega metropolis
called Provo. Also, the WCC is moving their championship to Vegas next year.
None of those schools is located anywhere near Vegas, so that conference must
see something positive in moving there. Yes, it's all about the money.
That's true for the BCS, for the NCAA tournament, as well as the MWC.

San Diego hosted the WCC tourney again and they took 3rd in the regular season
and this is not the first time they have hosted it and not won the conference.

It's time for the tourney to travel. UNLV got blown out at BYU. College hoops has too much of a home court advantage for UNLV to get it each year. The tourney should travel around the league. Even with UNLV vs BYU, half the upper bowl was empty. Prices were also high. $35 for upper bowl? I won't be back.
