Get them under control | 10:49 a.m. March 15, 2008
Over the last 8 years I have personally witnessed the cypress baseball involved in 2 fights., it's time that the administration does somthing about this.

hey D-News, whatever you do, make sure you don't post the comments that tell HOW & WHO started the fight. We know that SLC is your readership, and all teams from there are REAL GOOD SPORTS.

a sport is a sport | 11:42 a.m. March 15, 2008
Interesting what can happen in any sport. Look at football, that is a ruff sport, you just don't see any fista-cuffs, look what happened to Karalinko 2 weeks ago, basketball also has it's share of fista-cuffs, look at girls softball, they just pull each other's hair. If you are competition to WIN, anything can happen. No one knows what happens when they pass each other in a slap/good job. Let the kids play ball, make the umpires a little more responsible for their actions. Call a ball a ball, call a strike a strike and don't make ANY of the kids second guess a pitch, then it is an even playing field.

Will baseball now be placed on probation like boy's soccer? Or would that be too fair? And when will the UHSAA clean up the dirty sport of boy's basketball? Never. It's a money-maker.

Reality | 12:31 p.m. March 15, 2008
So what, a small fight broke out at a competitive sporting event with a bunch of teenagers. Get over it! It's a heck of a lot better that this fight broke out on a baseball field with plenty of adults around to intervene at some point, than these kids not playing ball at all and loose on the streets while all the adults are at work. Let's don't get carried away here folks.

"it's time that the administration does somthing about this"?

It's time that PARENTS take the responsibility to spend some time with their kids teaching them right from wrong at HOME before they even get to school.

Umpires | 2:35 p.m. March 16, 2008
The umpires did not have anything to do with the post-game melee. They actually did a good job of umpiring the game, and were leaving the field when it all went down.

cyprus is a bunch of hot headed players... they think they are good for beating three 5 A teams that arent even in the top ten in the state. What they need to do is have cyprus play against spanish fork or bingham to set them and their ego's in their place

So what if a little brawl breaks out after the game, it is a game and both teams want to win that is why you compete in a sport to win, that is why they keep score. Do we as parents want to teach our kids not stand up for themselves, I would think not. I know both coaches and I know they don't instruct there kids to brawl but I do know they teach there kids to stand up for themselves and their team. Hey ed, I can tell that your a little biased but give Cyprus some credit they compete year after year and not always with the best talent. Hey ed, maybe you ought to play sports one day and not sit on the couch and preach because your ego is way out of place. Kids will be kids and I am glad to see them stand up for themselves. Captain Morgan, "could you please keep your team under control."

One more thing, "Way to go Pirates". I am proud of you "hot headed" competitors. Keep up the hard work and defend what is yours. Stand up for yourselves and what you believe in. Don't let anyone ever question your integrity.

Cyprus vs. 5A | 11:09 p.m. March 17, 2008
I'd love to see Cyprus play 5A teams like Bingham and Spanish Fork to "put them in their place." Oh wait, Cyprus is 3-0 against Spanish in state tournament games. Not a good argument there.

Hey American Fork Football, how do you feel? You get in a brawl and you recieve immediate suspensions and loose out on a chance to play for a state championship. Your players miss a chance to showcase their talent in front of college coaches. Cyprus gets in a brawl and they leave a couple of days later for a tournament in Arizona where their players can be showcased in front of college scouts with no suspensions. Way to go UHSAA. You again put on display your total lack of consistancy.

Nice Leo,the Napoleanic bravado you preach is exactly what has kept generations of Pirate's minds on the brawl in the parking lot instead of winning championships on the playing field. What is it you're asking them to "protect"? A third generation of no championships in any sport? If they follow your advice, I'm sure they can keep that record in tact.

Takes 2 to tango! | 11:02 a.m. March 18, 2008
I just thinki it's funny that everyone is talking about Cyprus and what they did wrong and no one is talkng about Layton and their part in it. I have a feeling that that might be becuase Cyprus is a West side school and Layton is a Northern suburban area school. Just food for thought.I feel all playeres from both teams deserve to be held accountable. Sounds like everyond forgot it takes to to tango.

I have to agree. I was at the game and Cyprus has some great talent, but some of their players were clearly more interested in taunting and fighting than in playing baseball. As the saying goes, "a few bad apples" but it doesn't take much to get teenagers riled up and unfortunately in this case it resulted in a brawl. I'm sure the majority of Cyprus kids are good kids and certainly Layton could have responded with a little more maturity. Hopefully, a learning experience for all.
