Mitt is the right VP choice. Bar none. He is good at the economy which McCain admitted he does not have much knowledge or experience. The two will be a good team, to turn this country around and keep us safe.
So an M&M ticket is the "dream ticket"
I will only vote for McCain if Mitt Romney is the VP.
Bookaholic | 12:17 a.m. March 13, 2008
I only grudgingly decided I'd vote for McCain after Romney convinced me it was important to do in order to keep the Democrats out of power.

I would be elated to see Mitt on the ticket. The economic know-how that he would bring to the administration would be profound. We need him right now and badly!

And after McCain serves a turn, those who feared Romney initially would have had a chance to see him in action. There fears would be found to be groundless, and he would (hopefully) be elected to the office of the Presidency in 2012.

I think Mitt would make a superb President and VP! I'm afraid McCain is unlikely to pick him--but he'd be smart to do so, and it'd be a blessing if he did!

wow, lots of bitter xlds and left wing loons posting. Ok for one Romney is backing the republican candidate...go figure, two if there is a position open where he can change America for the better why not take it. I don't care for McCain much either, but choosing the lesser of the presidential candidate evils seems prudent. Also about McCain voting against the anti-torture bill? McCain spent 6 years as a PoW and I'm sure he was never tortured makes you wonder why he voted against it...could it be the bill was crap? Human rights are for human beings, Al-Qaeda members lost their humanity when they took part in killing and torturing innocent people...why keep catering to the offenders and not the victims?

Thank You Kevin. it's nice to see a refreshing and INTELIGENT comment!
ROMNEY ALL THE WAY | 5:41 a.m. March 13, 2008
Well I only have one thing to say. Romney is the only hope for our great country. GO USA, and GO ROMENY!!
Augusta | 6:42 a.m. March 13, 2008
I would vote for Romney any way I could get him!! If not president, then vice-president. He inspires confidence. The record he set for himself as governor, shows that he kept every commitment he made. People speak of him using the "nickname" of "Mormon", and deny that he believes in Christ...and yet, the proper name of the church he belongs to is:
"The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints". How much more could you announce that you believed in and worshiped Christ than that? It is the same church that Christ established, except it is in the Latter-days.

I am for Gov. Romney from the very start. I will be helping him achieve his visions for America. I urge Sen. McCain to recognize the greatness of Gov. Romney. The selfless, smart decisions that Gov. Romney had done for the unity of the party. He is still the 2nd in number of delegates and the best in the fundamentals of economy, healthcare, family values and leadershhip experience. We are opening our wallets in this hard time for an M&M ticket. That sounded so good.
sunnykc | 7:16 a.m. March 13, 2008
Thanks to the writer who defended Mitt against Kevin. If anything, Romney is SO moral and squeaky clean that people resent this. They equate it with someone who would be judgmental--of them--if given the chance and hence they don't like these ultra-wholesome types. Romney drew substantial numbers and--it cannot be said enough--all those voters weren't Mormon! Most Mormon bashers know very litte about the church--they just know they don't like it. It's that wholesome thing again. Get a life!

McCain should pick the most able. Giving us McCain and Able.
Re: Christian Conservative | 7:51 a.m. March 13, 2008
Do you know who James Dobson endorsed? MITT ROMNEY! Guess what other big Christian leader that is anti-Mormon endorsed Romney? Bob Jones III. Mitt will get plenty of support from the Christian right that actually care about this country.
johntvalentine | 8:15 a.m. March 13, 2008
Sen.John McCain, choice for his V.P.,his selection being Mitt Romney, would be an answer to this very conservative American. Experience, honor, integrity and MORALITY is everything that America needs to breathe that breath of fresh air. It would show the whole world that America is still that beacon that is so greatly needed. Now I feel good about voting for Sen McCain, as our next President!!!

The winner this time will probably be a GREEK named
RALPH NADER.
shmemo | 9:49 a.m. March 13, 2008
I was just going to write in Ralph Wiggum, but if Romney is on the McCain ticket, I'll take this election serious again!

Didn't Cain kill Able?

Then perhaps Hillary is the most able?
California voter | 10:11 a.m. March 13, 2008
Yes, I would feel so much better with Mitt on the ticket. I wish he hadn't dropped out. Mormons are Christians, but definitely. Gov. Romney has the highest morals. Whoever thinks never having but one wife and never played around on her; is honest in his dealings with his fellow man; I could go on and on, but then I guess I understand those who don't like morality and honesty; Makes them feel very guilty when such things are brought up. I sure would not vote a Democratic ticket, but McCain as the only choice leaves me not too happy. So if Romney gets the nod, I'll go to the polls a very happy camper.

...We as a country obviously cant find a quick fix for the WAR, ECONOMY, IMMIGRATION, etc... I am sadden to read how there is so much bashing going on. For the record I was not TOLD by My CHURCH to VOTE FOR ROMNEY!! That is the beauty of our religion. We Know We Have OUR FREE AGENCY...I just feel like there are some of you people out there who are so narrow minded that you dont get the REAL issues anymore...after the Primaries I was sadden that MITT was no longer an option, but because only because of the knowledge of having the chance to vote for someone who believes in your same standards does give comfort but that did not mean I did not listen to what each and every candidate had to say and their views on how to help our country!!
Mark B | 10:32 a.m. March 13, 2008
If morality is your priority, then McCain's not your guy. As for Mitt, I doubt there's enough job in the VP duties to keep the guy occupied unless you include "attending funerals" as a duty. It's not as though McCain would simply hand over the economy to Mitt for some hands on management, nor does Mitt have Cheney's talent for turning everything secret while ignoring Congress. I'd be shocked if the two of them hooked up.
please Mitt, join McCain | 10:54 a.m. March 13, 2008
Mitt Romney proved that a Mormon cannot be elected at the national level. By joining McCain's ticket, Romney would guarantee a Democrat victory. (Remember Gore/Lieberman losing TN & AR?)

McCain is right now raising money in Utah. Once he drains the state, Romney goes back to the GOP closet where he belongs.
Bernie | 10:58 a.m. March 13, 2008
I don't know if Romney was saying that "he would be honored to be JOHN MCCAIN'S running mate"; rather, it seems to me that he may be saying, when OUR COUNTRY is in need of our service, ANYONE would be honored to be considered qualified to be VICE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!
Carol | 11:05 a.m. March 13, 2008
I'm from Arizona and like a lot of people in our state do not have an appreciation for John McCain. The only way I and many others could possibly cast our vote for McCain would be to have Mitt Romney as his vice presidential candidate. There was an abundance of disappointed people when Romney was not selected as the presidential candidate and this would be the only hope for a more conservative ticket and strength would be added to the Republican party to overcome the Clinton or Obama supporters.
ello | 11:26 a.m. March 13, 2008
Mitt, Mitt, Mitt, Why does Utah have a love affair with you?
I for one will continue to support the best thing that has come to politics in my lifetime, Obama.

Utah, It is time to think for yourself, not for a religion. Who cares about what prayer one says before they lay their head down, I am sure that a true God would hear everyones voice the same.
Ruth Schreyer | 11:27 a.m. March 13, 2008
We live in Switzerland and we would be very happy if Mitt Romney would be the Vize President ! And later the President of the USA. USA and the World would be better with a good and rigt and polite living President. !
jmons | 11:32 a.m. March 13, 2008
People are losing site on the bigger picture. There have been some good comments but I've read a lot of that old junior high school smack talk. This race is not personal people. It's politics!!! We need to win the conservative race if we want to keep our troops, our freedom of choice in health care (among other things), our safety, and need I go on! One thing I know for sure is that if the troops are withdrawn like the "Demiwackos" want to do, we will be attacked. Pulling troops out is like going off of prescription meds. cold turkey. Bad idea. Don't forget about "Hilarycare" and Obama's major lack of experience. We need the conservative vote to survive as a society, otherwise it'll go down the tubes and we'll all be building bomb shelters in our back yards again.
mckit_nh | 11:36 a.m. March 13, 2008
Nothings decided until election day. But if that were today and I had to chose between McCain and Obama... Well it would be Obama; however, Mitt's honesty is what attracts me to him. I know alot of non-listening folks used to call is level of honesty flip flopping on issues, but Mitt wasn't flip flopping, he was just being honest and proving he knows how to chose his battles. I'll concider voting McCain only if his running mate is Mitt. We need a president that will go into every situation with his eyes wide open, not his mind already made up. Which is also what I like about Obama; however, Obama's promises to open up the check book quickly scare me... can you say tax and spend... Obama can bottom line is Mitt always was and still is the best HOPE America has of adverting an all out war with half the world, and at the same time getting the economy back on track. Forget the primary results, Mitt Romney for President.
RLP | 11:53 a.m. March 13, 2008
Mitt Romney went over to the "Dark Side" after he filed his candidacy, and now he wants to be the evil emperor's right hand man. I'm just thankful that Dr. Paul is still a VIABLE candidate, regardless of what the "Dark Side" media and candidates try to assume. (You better believe it.)
Cathy | 12:08 p.m. March 13, 2008
I think the 2 make a very good match and would meet the needs of the Citizens. It is important that they not be identical - there needs to be a balance and together they fill in gaps and make a very good fit.

California CHRISTian | 12:34 p.m. March 13, 2008
John McCain is a politician like all the rest. (He's your 'friend' when he needs you but he'll not hesitate to stab you in the back if you get in his way.) He probably dangled the VP job in front of Mr. Romney to get his endorsement. However, I don't know that I trust McCain to follow through. Too bad that! I'd love to see Romney tackle our economy. (Russ, hope dies hard in CA too!)

RE: "Christian" Conservative
When is comes to Mormons, neither you nor Dobson know what you are talking about but, I forgive you both...I really do! :-)
Znette | 12:29 p.m. March 13, 2008
It would be great for Mitt Romney to be the VP candidate. It was Mitt Romney and all the commotion about his Mormon faith that led me to check out why all the issues and now I have been baptized and confirmed as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and could be more happy with my decision.

Mitt has all the qualities and divine guidance to be able to lend the values, morals and backbone back to the Republican ticket. Plus he would have a great chance in the future as being the first Mormon President...wouldn't that be awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!
mckit_nh | 1:08 p.m. March 13, 2008
RE Mark B:

What do you mean not enough responsibility as VP. The last 8 years our nation has been run by the man behind the curtain, or more plainly spoken, the vice president.
Syd | 1:11 p.m. March 13, 2008
Once again I am so grateful for the political irrelevance of Utah!
DS | 1:15 p.m. March 13, 2008
My comment is directed to all (good?) Christians whose biggest complaint against Romney is his being true to his Mormon faith. Mormons (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints)are CHRISTIANS. Maybe some Christians need to reflect on the scriptures and be reminded that it was the Savior's teachings that cost Him his life. With His opposers, His steadfast convictions overshadowed His good works. I don't want to shirk my responsibility to vote but will happily go to the polls if Romney is chosen as a running mate. I am the proud Grandmother of a soldier. I have to care who is Commander in Chief. I don't like wars either. But our freedom has to be protected.
Anonymous | 1:15 p.m. March 13, 2008
Heavenly Father gives divine guidance to everyone who prays, not just Mormons. Comments like this are why people are always getting on our cases.
Kay | 1:34 p.m. March 13, 2008
The thing for everyone to do is to study each candidate for president (or VP). Decide who works best for what your ideals are, and if you are a religious person pray about this important decision. I did that and had my prayers confirmed that Barack Obama is the person I should vote for. I'm not saying God is endorsing any one candidate because we do after all have free agency. It just makes me sad that as a Mormon I have been judged by fellow church members for my decision. The Church wants us to be politically active, it's hard for some members to remember that the choice is up to the individual.
Re: Spanky | 1:42 p.m. March 13, 2008
I have never been told as a member of the LDS church who I should vote for. Get your facts straight before you go public with it. I have always been taught to pray about my choices in order to make wise decisions. That means ask God for guidance, not VOTE this ballot.
Richard | 2:09 p.m. March 13, 2008
The vast number of ill-informed people, regarding Mitt Romney's religion, comes as no surprise. Jesus Christ, whom the Mormons regard as the Son of God, the Savior and Redeemer of all mankind, who lived a perfect life, was crucified, based on the opinions of CLERICS of that time, who regarded Him as a threat to their status quo.
Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints look upon their critics with a degree of pity, as they only demonstrate their ignorance on the subject of "Mormonism." There is a great need for people to find out about the church. If you really want to know more about the church, ask those dark-suited young men and modestly-dressed young women who volunteer their time, at their own expense, to tell the world the truth about the church. Don't ask the detractors. They only have the negative view, and refuse to acknowledge the truth of the matter. (Incidentally, Romney did NOT change his view on abortion. He did change his view on whether or not the government could forbid it. Those who say he changed his mind about abortion are seriously exaggerating.
Spanky | 2:09 p.m. March 13, 2008
I think all right thinking people should vote for the Romney/McCain ticket. Mitt is the man. If Mitt gets in, we'll have more tax cuts for the rich, and I plan on being rich someday, so that's a good thing. I also love how he raids companies, sells off their assets and fires employees who have worked there a long time. He doesn't let having a social conscience interfere with his pocketbook, and that's the kind of guy we need to fight them over there instead of over here. I also like how he fooled everyone by supporting a woman's right to choose, and gay marriage to get elected governor of Massachusetts. He really put one over on them! Ha! He can do those things and it's okay because he goes to church on Sunday and that makes up for what he does Monday thru Saturday. Yeah, Mitt is the man we need in the White House! Vote for Mitt! We need someone to carry on the successful policies of the last 8 years of George Bush, and Mitt will do that.
Yes, let's have Mitt | 2:25 p.m. March 13, 2008
So we can *keep* talking about how the missionaries' behavior in CO reflects LDS attitudes about Catholics and people of other religions and how Mitt's sons "serve" the US by campaigning while other Americans die for the country.

Then let's hear more about how there's no place for non-believers in Mitt's America and how gung ho he is about torture.

Let's discuss how many American companies Bain downsized and how many American's lost jobs while the tightening economy will be on all the voters' minds.

Let's have a Dem. White House and both houses of Congress while we're at it. Mitt's the man!
alice | 2:44 p.m. March 13, 2008
The Romneys are a delightful family oriented couple that the US would be blessed to have in either spot. They are Christians of the highest degree and how do I know because my husband and I sat by them in Park City ward for over a year and their actions are the actions of Christians. Look and walk like a Christian , talk like a Christian, act like a Christian and you are a Christian! A devout follower of Christ!!!
Helena | 2:48 p.m. March 13, 2008
Unless you know anything about the Mormon religion at all, you should keep your derogatory remarks to yourself as they only show your ignorance.

As for Romney on the ticket, I'll support it 100%. The M&M ticket could really turn the country around given half a chance providing McCain allows Mitt to do what he's best at - the economy.

With McCain big on national security and Mitt huge on economic issues, where could we go wrong?

I left Canada because I didn't want to live under a Clinton/Obama-like socialistic government. Universal health care will destroy the health care in this country as it did in Canada. When you have to wait anywhere's from 3 to 6 months just to get a necessary MRI ...... that's what universal health care gives you. Like Hillary said .."Be careful what you wish for ..."

So I say, "Go for it Mitt if it's offered to you!!"

Mitt has SO many positives:economic knowledge and success, moral, hard working, driven, patriotic, great record as Governor, etc.,etc.,etc. I would be more comfortable voting for McCain if I knew Mitt could have some conservative influence on him. Go Mitt!!!

Would you like to explain how members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are polytheist?

You don't see us supporting a Harry Ried ticket, do you?

So, your argument is bogus. Mitt is the BEST for the job. go out, try to buy wheat right now. You can't. Morons are not the only ones who buy wheat, and there's none around! Our economy is tanking. NO ONE has better grasp of the economy than Romney. We need him right now, wispering in mccain's ear. McCain can bury the hatchet. Romney has. Huckleberry is still trying to toss the hatchet.

Mitt reads the Book of Mormon, is LDS, is rich, is Republican. That's good enough for me, I really don't care to learn what he actually stands for. I'm voting for Romney for president and McCain for vice president. Go Mitt!
Re:To Kevin | 4:45 p.m. March 13, 2008
I've heard that line about Harry Reid too many times. That's easy. Mormons don't support Harry Reid mainly because he is a Democrat and Mormons won't give the Dem's a first look, let alone a second look. I heard a Junior High teacher talking about how a lot of her students talk about how they will move to Canada if Hillary or Obama are elected when they know nothing other than what their parents have taught them. These same people will grow up and never give their views a second thought because they think their party is the "righteous party." I also know of an teenager who went to a mutual activity and was railed on for wearing a "Mormon's for Obama" T-shirt. He was just showing his excitment for his candidate and was totally persecuted by his supposed friends. Oh and by the way, that Republican you voted for twice and his Republican Congress are the ones you need to look at concerning the tanking economy and John McCain is never going to let anyone whisper in his ear.

It seems to me that that Romney would benefit McCain and McCain would benefit Romney....McCain is NOT my choice, however, as he is my age,He needs a younger VP to energize him and humble him. He was a good soldier and Romney is a good Economist. Am from New England and KNOW what Romney did for Mass.; bringing the "2" parties together to bring the State back into the Black....as it was in the RED!! McCain would make a 'wise choice' having Mitt for his running mate. My whole family are of different faiths and even my 101 yr. old Mother was voting for him! How about that!??

McCain and Romney would be a good ticket. The best of both 'sides' of the conservative party. As a team, they would get my vote.
Eileen | 6:07 p.m. March 13, 2008
I cannot bring myself to vote for McCain unless he chooses Romney as his VP. I think America is in for some rough times with any of the three possible candidates, and I don't want the country blaming it on conservatives or people with common sense. Romney was the only candidate with the integrity and leadership I can trust to do what is best for our country and not for selfish gain. If he is not listed on the ballot, I will write him in. More than any election before, I feel the need to stand with my conscience. I will not hold my nose and vote.

Mitt Romney, seen here last year, told Fox News Channel's Hannity & Colmes Tuesday he would be "honored" to be selected as Sen. John McCain's running mate if offered.
