War urged against carbon dioxide

Some of you embarrass me | 11:53 a.m. March 15, 2008
Wow. Some of you posters need to do a little inward reflection and ask yourselves if you're even thinking about trying to make the world a better place for your children. But that's not my reason for writing.

I wonder, did anyone who posted here actually GO to the conference about which the Des News article was written? Well, I did, and it offered yet more compelling arguments to support the reality of global warming, but more importantly, it focused on solutions and the necessary timing of them. (By the way, I, too, would be interested in seeing one of the supposedly existing peer-reviewed scientific journal articles that refutes its existence - funny how nobody seemed to be able to post that information!)
New can of worms | 12:04 p.m. March 15, 2008
Bill McKibben does walk the walk. He made one of the biggest decisions any of us can make to help reduce his carbon footprint. He and his wife chose to have just one child.

He points out that population growth in developing countries has little environmental impact compared to the impact of growth in the developing world, particularly here. The carbon footprint of a family of 10 in a third world country is orders of magnitude less than the footprint of just one person living in the U.S. So, having large families here in the U.S. is one of the worst things we can do for the environment. Even the most organic, tree-hugging, environmental activist American child is still likely to pollute the world more than a large Tanzanian family. I won't even get into the issue about how large houses are becoming here (especially in Utah)!

Anyway, maybe he does fly, but I'd rather see Bill McKibben flying around the U.S. by himself to do something useful (spreading the word about the need for each of us to take some personal responsibility for reducing global warming) than a family of five flying to Europe for a vacation.
McKibben's getting rich?! | 12:10 p.m. March 15, 2008
This is a response to the person who's worried that Bill McKibben is making big money by speaking his mind on global warming. Hmmmm. He's probably getting paid a couple hundred bucks to speak a couple times a week. Oh, wait, he's also earning maybe a couple dollars royalty on each of the few books he sells (not exactly NY Times best sellers, I'm afraid - though perhaps they should be!) That's a pretty funny way to try to get rich. He could work a lot less hard and make a lot more money doing something else. Bill McKibben is real and good, and though he may not be a scientist, he is awfully smart and has probably done a lot more reading on the subject of global warming than ANY of us who has posted here. Whom would YOU choose to believe? I am more apt to believe the people who have done their research, and that includes Bill McKibben.
