Domestic registry may get a name change

Why? If cities don't like what their locally elected leaders have enacted, they can elect other people and undo it. The Utah Legislature is always complaining about what the State is forced to do by the Federal Government, but they have no problem forcing their will onto local governments. A little hypocritical I'd say.

Utah shows from this that it doesn't have forward thinking. Any group of people that don't have equal rights fight until they get it. Maybe it won't be here....and that is not something to be proud of.

Oh, but the end justifies the means when it comes to defending God-ordained chosen people. If our legislators could get away with it, adorning their clothes with pink triangles would be mandatory for gay people. Along with forcible sterilization. Our conservatives are already so worried about the children raised in gay families, and so preoccupied with not allowing them to adopt or be foster parents that not allowing homosexuals to reproduce biologically would be the next logical step.

But no one seems to be bothered by the trends exhibited by our legislators. People don't learn from history, it seems.

Why? 9:19. Your comparison is apples to oranges. The federal government is (or originally was) a creation of the states, thus it makes some sense for the states to complain about the federal government. The states are not the creations of the various cities and towns within them. The states are the creation of their legislatures, which are elected directly by the people. If you don't like what the legislature is doing, you can cast your vote when your representative comes up for re-election.

wow. Chris Buttars has found a way to stick it the gays again. He couldn't do the dirty work because of his own public disgrace, so he had his other, more socially acceptable lackeys do his bidding. This round may go to Gayle and Buttars. But even with all their protests, the gay civil liberty movement is still growing exponentially. Their efforts to silence and condemn us only give us strength to grow. My thanks to The Eagle Forum and all the Utah Legislature.

People are never going to agree on religion. But one thing we can and eventually do agree on, is equal opportunities for all.
Sorry, if in your opinion "we haven't learned from history", but in many people's opinion, YOU have not learned from history.

There's no need to amend a bill to protect the constitution. If there's a conflict, the constitution trumps. I think the conservative legislators' real fear is that the courts won't read everything the way they do.

If you really support equal opportunities, why would you find my comment objectionable? Or do you have trouble understanding sarcasm?

How is it that the legislature has the energy to focus on harassing gays (that is the motive) but can't pass Senator Howard Stephensons bill to improve math education in Utah in the form that would have been ideal.

There wasn't enough time or interest thats why.

Gays really can't help that they feel that way and I think going after them is not only a waste of time but is mean spirited.

Lets focus on what really matters. Our kids education.
