Utah State basketball: Aggie star sad to face final home game

Not only is this a sad day for the Utah State seniors, it will also be a sad day for us fans, as we get to watch one of the greatest players in school history, Jaycee Carroll, play in Logan for the last time. Watching these seniors play has been wonderful, and we appreciate all they've done for us as fans, and for the school. I'll be rooting for them at the Spectrum tonight. Go Aggies!

Too bad JC couldn't have had a better supporting cast this year. Just think if our 3 frosh getting minutes were sophmores we would have won at least another 4 games!

I agree that Carroll is a good player...however, it is a stretch that he is one of the all time players in USU history. USU plays in a mediocre conference. The only decent conference in the west is the PAC-10. USU doesn't have dominating big men to go with Carroll.....the talented big men are on the west coast and in the east....this is what is critical to a run in the NCAA tournament. I salute and applaud Carroll and the record that Stew Morrill has achieved at USU....but it means little in the overall scheme of things. USU needs to downgrade their sports program to NAIA or the lower Div I,II, or III status....they cannot run with the big dogs, particularly in major sports.

Wren88 and USU Fan, you two really know how to take the wind out of the sails when it comes to commemorating one of the best basketball players to play at USU and in the state of Utah (Jaycee is only behind Keith Van Horn in most points scored at the D-1 level).

what a hodgepodge, the facts that USU plays in a mediocre conference, and that USU doesn't have dominating big men has no relevance to whether JC is a great player. And the comment about downgrading is irrelavant to basketball, where the Aggies compete very well. NAIA or DII? huh? MAYBE 1-AA, where they would dominate. Personally I think they're right where they should be, and just need to keep the faith in football. Sadly I do think they probably should quit playing Utah and BYU in football until they can get it together better. But in basketball they are totally competitive and deserve nothing but praise!

Mediocre conference? This is coming from oh wait an equal to or inferior conference fan. The Mountain West is a joke, and the fact that they will have two seeds into the tournament is a joke. The Wac wins games in the NCAA tournament, and if wasn't for UNLV the mountain West would bow out every year.

Since the day Stew arrived USU has owned the U and the Y. Don't bring your joke of a comments based on igorance and jealous of the best basketball program in the state to this blog. One good year for the Y, and they will still lose in the first round. The U won't be there, and USU is ready to upset whoever they end up playing, led by an all-time Utah great Jaycee. Look at the stats, they don't lie.

Good riddance indeed! I'm a USU alum and I could never stand watching Jaycee play. I always rooted for the Aggies to come through, but for Jaycee to have a bad game. That being said, most of the Aggie fans love the guy.

JC has had bad games and USU still was able to pull off a win. Generally, we dont see it very often because the man just does not have bad games. He is too good and works too hard to make in game adjustments and not just shooting all the time. He will go down as one of the greatest to come out of the state of Utah. Unfortunately, he wont catch van Horns scoring but from what he has been given, he has excelled and is the best player in the state.

Brett, I don't understand your comment about cheering for the Aggies but hoping that Carroll would have a bad game. I don't understand your logic. Do you have some personal grudge against Carroll? Call me crazy but I always cheer for every player to have great game.

On the subject of conference strength both the WAC and the MWC are inferior conferences in comparison to some of the others out there. And if one conference is greater than the other it isn't by much.

USU is a great program and Stew has done a great job. But saying they have "owned the U and the Y" is a bit of a stretch. Since the year 2000, the Aggies are 5-3 against both the Y and the U. Not exactly dominant by my calculations especially when you factor in that humiliating loss at the U this year.
