The article states:
"Both groups also have a notorious reputation for underage marriage and domestic violence."

With the 'both groups' referring to both FLDS and Christian polygamists. If the author is going to make such statements he ought to at least document them. I've yet to EVER read of a case where Christian polygamists were guilty of either underage marriage or domestic violence. I'm sure that just like in monogamous marriages there are probably cases of those things but to say that Christian polygamists are NOTORIOUS for it?? Going a LOT over the top with that one.

Interesting article.
"Both groups also have a notorious reputation for underage marriage and domestic violence."
I have heard of some cases associated with the FLDS groups--mostly media-sensationalized. If this is something so notorious within Christian polygamist groups, why isn't more heard about it. I have never heard of any underage marriages or domestic violence. If you compared the numbers of polygamous and monogamous families with domestic violence you would probably find less instances in the polygamous families. Such numbers would be hard to come by though due to the illegality of polygamous marriages. I am all for stopping domestic violence. And I am all for keeping the government out of marriage.

I think that if this reporter really did her job then this article would be much different and factual. The media strikes again with fear-mongering. It is a sad sad day.

Interesting story, but the writer needs to get facts correct. The FLDS is NOT AN OFFSHOOT of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Oh pulleese, isn't that like saying monogamy is notorius for child abuse, domestic violence, infedelity, murder, etc. because some monogamous married men commit these offenses? Spare us the sensationalising and stay with the facts.

I checked the definition of OFFSHOOT in the dictionary and the author is right. The FLDS separated from the LDS Church when they banned polygamy.... The LDS, FLDS and RLDS now Community of Christ all have root with JS and use the same materials with minor differences. HISTORY. Take time to read the history of those groups.

here we go again | 7:24 a.m. March 29, 2008
As usual, we again are treated to the stories of these "very religious adults" as they "desperately" seek single women to engage in their "biblical" behaviour-

HOGWASH!!!!

These people steadfastly refuse to see that they are twisting the scriptures. Christ and Paul clearly taught monogamy is God's ideal, and that church leaders are to have one wife. Old Testament polygamy is mentioned many times but never commanded. These people just keep up their slavish devotion to their lust and confusion and blindness. It's incredible.

I feel sorrry for the women married to these jerks.

NEED MUCH PRAYER AND HELP | 12:38 a.m. April 22, 2008
JESUS DIED ON THE CROSS FOR ALL OF OUR SINS OVER 2000 YEARS AGO. HE WAS BRUISE FOR OUR INQUITIES.HE IS THE MESSIAH IN THE NEW TESTAMENT. GOD SENT DOWN JESUS IN THE FLESH TO PAY THE PRICE FOR OUR SINS. WE ARE TO LIVE THE LIFESTYLE OF JESUS CHRIST. SOME PEOPLE ARE NOT FOLLOWING IT. THEY NEED SOMEONE TO PRAY THAT THEY RECEIVE THE HOLY GHOST AND RECEIVE SALVATION IN THERE LIFE. GOD ISN'T GOING TO TELL SOMEONE TO DO WRONG AND HE BELIEVES IN ONE MARRIAGE BETWEEN MAN AND WOMAN,IT'S SACRED TOO HIM. POLYGAMY IS A SIN.JESUS IS THE MESSIAH AND IN THE OLD TESTAMENT THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE HOLY GHOST, THAT WOULD LEAD THEM, TEACH THEM AND GUIDE THEM. IN THE NEW TESTAMENT THEY RECEIVED SALVATION AND THE HOLY GHOST WHEN JESUS DIED AND CAME BACK TO LIFE SPIRITUALLY.THEY RECEIVED THE HOLY SPIRIT. THERE LEADERS ARE TEACHING THEM WRONG & WILL BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR IT. JUDGEMENT DAY IS COMING AND GOD IS OUR JUDGE. THEY ARE BEING EXPOSED BECAUSE IN GODS EYE SIGHT THEY ARE WRONG. HE ORDAINED MARRIAGE BETWEEN ONE MAN AND WOMAN IN GENESIS.THERE SPIRTUAL EYES & EARS NEED TO BE OPEENED.

With regard to polygamy, medical research has shown that women involved tend to have higher incidence of mental illness, including depression, anxiety, phobias, and somatization disorder. Children of polygamous unions have a higher incidence of antisocial behaviors, drug abuse and alcoholism, as well as poorer academic outcomes. These studies targeted populations around the world, not just in Mormon communities. Given these facts, the US government should move swiftly to take legal action against the organizers of this movement.

I'm not a supporter of polygamy, but I can sure tell you don't read the Bible. Go back and read. Anytime anyone such as Abraham, Isaac, Solomon, David, etc. had many wives they were give to them by the LORD. The LORD gave them their wives. David had many wives and concubines while still finding favor in the LORD. The LORD said HE gave David many wives and concubines...gave him.

However I do agree, I think people take the scripture out of context. Personally (and nobody else has to agree with me, we have the freedom to think what we want) I believe that God did condone plural marriage to those HE wanted to practice it, not to those that think they should have it. Again, depends on how you interpret the Bible.

Even saying the FLDS are "notorious for domestic violence" is not reall7y supported by facts. The only person who thought they had lots of domestic violence were Texas CPS people who were of the opinion that having a broken bone at some point in their life meant a child suffered from domestic violence.

There was the House of Yahweh case, but I do not know if they fit the rubric of "Evangelical Christian polygamists".
