I wish the article would have addressed the fact that for many Latter-day Saints going to a non-LDS majority school is the local option.
I used to go to BYU but am now attending Wayne State. Wayne State has about as many students as BYU, but probably under 30 LDS students. Most LDS students thre are grad students and married, so as a single undergraduate I have few LDS colleges.
I have had one class where there was another Latter-day Saint, but he is now serving a mission in Arizona.
Wayne State is a really interesting case, since it is just north of Canada. We have two or three LDS students who come north across the river from Windsor to Detroit every day. I only found out who they were because I was wearing a BYU shirt one day.
