CEU, USU merger talks put on hold

This would be a beneficial merger for the students, residents, and community of Price. In the long run,
an offer must be made to CEU by USU. The little guy
seems to always get the short end of these sticks, but if a well-defined and thorough list of advantages can be outlined and presented, go for it. This is unlike the Dixie-Utah potential merger which may not be in the best interest of St. Georgites.

CEU has lost half of its enrollment over the past two decades, apparently it needs some help from a school who has the experience and expertise that it may be lacking. It's a great campus and offers incredible teaching opportunities, it just needs more students to make it cost effective. I think USU could help put CEU back on the right track.

I don't think calling the motion a "merger" of the two institions. They're not equals. Calling the matter an absorbtion of CEU by USU would be better. I agree with the previous comments about USU being able to make CEU sustainable. But at the same time, if CEU's enrollment continues to dwindle, why not just absolve the campus completely and put the resources elsewhere?

We in Carbon County work hard. You see it by the loads and loads of coal in the trains. You see it in the Coal trucks. And do not forget the gas that is piped to keep the rest of the state going.
We take little from elsewhere. Carbon and Emery power plants provide a good portion of the energy for the rest of the state. We deserve the benefits of a fine college like C E U. go eagles !

USU has some branch campuses that are bigger than CEU. If you ever stop into them they have a community college feel. They operate in many ways very independent, yet have strong ties to academic departments on campus. Everyone knows each other and they are a great atmosphere for students. Sounds a lot like CEU.

Like the President of USU said, the merger has to benefit both. I can see many reasons why USU would not want CEU. I see many reasons why CEU does not want USU. But there might be some real benefits to the people of Utah and Carbon county.
