Campaign cost Romney more than $42M

He had to spend more money to become a household name in the country. He was an unknown in most parts of the country.

Good for Mitt Romney and his willingness to put enormous amounts of his own cash on the line for what he believed in during his presidencial campaign. Another reason I will never vote for McCain is how he constantly made fun of Romney with lines like "I led for patriotism not for profit" and "you can spend your whole fortune, you can spend it all my friend". McCain is essentially ridiculing the american dream of success,peace, and prosperity. All I have to say is that at least Romney has the brains and the class to have earned it himself and not on the backs of the american taxpayer or by marrying a young rich heiress to a fortune like McCain did. This guy is so far out of touch with economic reality it is astounding. I for one will be writing in Mitt Romney and I urge all intelligent republicans to do the same. McCain does have a chance anyway and we need to accept that.

I do NOT know much about McCain's marriage background or how he came to be with Cindy. Although, I keep hearing bits and pieces about it mostly from Arizonans I think).

I do know that Mitt is a good man. The thing that really got to me was the last minute lie that McCain told about MR before the Florida primary; that he was for a date to leave Iraq. Then, every time Mitt denied it and tried to talk about it, McCain would scoff and scowl and smirk. I was completely turned off by that. It is too bad more people could not see the truth for what it was. It is too bad that people are blinded by the media and maybe hate and therefore let the best candidate get away.

I believe God will yet bless Mitt for the huge sacrifice he made to try to be a blessing for his country... God bless you Mitt. It was fun working for you.

I love the idea of writing Mitt in. I wish with all my heart that there would be a way to get a ground swell and get millions of people to do it. He might have a chance and so might we.

I wonder what would happen if people stopped buying into the "vote for 3rd party or independent is a vote for the dems" thing. If enough people stopped thinking that and really took a stand something good might happen.

Teddy Roosevelt had a 3rd party, the BullMoose party and he won. Maybe America was smarter then than now. Perhaps they were more unitable... I don't know. I do know though that right now, I have really no one to vote for. I don't like anyone (dem is not an option) and when Mitt backed, he took my option with him... sad day!

America may be ready for a woman president or a Black president. Apparently they are not ready for a Momorn president.

If Mitt Romney had been the right person for the presidency at this time and God's choice he would now be the front runner and would be elected.
This idea of writing in Romney's name is just silly, not every state even allows write in votes. Either pick a candidate and vote for them or don't vote at all.
Romney had his own snide remarks and negative things to say so don't put it all on John McCain or other candidates. Mitt Romney does not wear a halo and has never claimed that he did. There is still a lot of sour grapes out there being squeezed.

I enthusiastically supported Mitt Romney's campaign. He was obviously the best candidate. He was the only one who could hold the Reagan coalition together. The Neo-Cons in the Republican Party allied themselves with anti-Mormon Evangelicals to drive Mitt Romney out of the race. Unfortunately, they were successful. Mitt Romney may be $42 Million poorer, but America is a whole lot poorer for rejecting Mitt Romney. It will take at least a generation for the Republican Party to regain the confidence of the Latter-day Saints and their friends. Utah may be turning blue in the November, 2008 election. The first time since 1964! We now have two choices for this year, Communism or Fascism. That is no choice at all! The Constitution does indeed, hang by a thread. I will proudly write in Mitt Romney's name for President and Tom Tancredo for Vice-President this November. Thank-You

Thank you, I doubt I could put it any better than you did. I feel the exact same way. It is hard to look at what is out there (choices for vote) and harder to realize what has happened to my country and people I used to respect and enjoy even though they are different than me. Mitt Romney is and ever will be a great man and he is the one who will eventually be blessed for trying to bless his country....

Ardent you are mistaken about Teddy Roosevelt. He was elected in 1904 as a regular Republican. In 1912, he challenged the incumbent Republican president, William Taft, on the Bull Moose indepedent ticket, but finished second to Democrat Woodrow Wilson. Taft finished third, and the split in the Republican party handed Wilson a landslide in electoral votes, despite the fact that he did not receive an absolute majority of the popular vote.

JJ~~ thank you so much! I won't be making that mistake again! It is a very good history lesson I think. I guess I got my history skewed. I should have brushed up before I stated that. I did say it the other day and asked about it on some other forum but no one responded to it and I never gave it another thought!

I promised myself I'd never vote for McCain or Huck, both of whom stabbed Romney in the back. Besides, McCain is undependably conservative. I can't vote for socialist Obama. I'm just going to write in Romney this November.

Mitt Romney was the best man running for the office of president this year. The reason Southerners voted against him was the fear spread by the evangelical ministers. If you take away the fear and Huckabee, McCain and his cross-over Democrat friends could not have put him ahead. If McCain had a brain in his head he would select Mitt as his running mate. The evangelicals would not vote against him and when McCain is impeached Mitt would be our president.

The news media will continue to look for and find things in McCain's past to hurt him against Obama or impeach him after he wins. McCain is a heartless, evil man who deserves neither respect or votes. Here is one Vietnam Veteran who will write in Romney. Better to die as a hero than to live as a slug. The difference in me and my buddies and McCain is that we didn't get caught and write letters betraying our country.

I too would like to write in MRomney. I just would like to know how to snow ball something like this. I do kind of wish McCain would ask for him as VP. That might be a great help. Otherwise, how do we get the "write in Mitt" campaign going and make it meaningful and not counter-productive as some have stated???? Is it possible?
