Buttars says he'll run for re-election in November

"He continually makes racial remarks"
Could you give me some examples here? Please don't quote the Brown vs Board of Education blurb until you know the context of his statement (which he made abundantly clear! - it wasn't a racist statement.)
Heaven help us!
"I'm so sorry, it was just a "Buttars" on my part. Please forgive me. And oh, by the way, I'm moving on, it's in the past, I'm over it, and am running for re-election."
But I absolutely refuse to do so until it ends the absurd level of reporting on this non-issue.
A guy made a stupid comment. He apologized. It should end there.
Instead, the Utah media - led by the Deseret News and Tribune - has decided to carry water for a truly racist and morally bankrupt organization - the NAACP - and all but called for the resignation of a democratically elected member of the state government.
The NAACP is not elected by the people of Utah. It has not somehow magically acquired the capability to represent us or Buttars' constituents. It is a now irrelevant organization that thrives on blowing entirely out of proportion the accidental comments of others and requires the media to spread its news.
It's time to stop this nonsense. Let the voters decide what is good on this issue.
I am not a Chris Buttars fan but all I'm seeing is a bunch of sheep jumping on a bandwagon brought out by the racist group, the NAACP to vilify someone for a remark that was in no way racist. Your mob mentality is disgusting.
Grow up. The word "black" is not always referring to race. Why don't you target these blaxploitation rap artists who drop a real racial insult every other word in their "songs" and glorify the subjugation of women, criminal activity and gang life. I thought you were for the ADVANCEMENT of colored people...
To Buttars-
You have been a laughingstock long enough. Your constituency is regarded as either Eagle Forum zombies or outright idiots to keep sending you to the Legislature. The only difference between you and Warren Jeffs is that you were elected-otherwise the rest of Utah and America considers the both of you equally delusional and intellectually primitive.
To West Jordan-
You deserve better. Do something about it.
To the people on here that tell people to calm down-
You calm down, you sound as backwards as Buttars.
Unbelievable that the Utah Republican party has once again shown its good-ole-boy nature by skirting the issue and not castigating Butters for this and ALL the NUMEROUS prior indiscretions of the past. Just a good-ole-boys club at that!
And it will be absolutely unbelievable if the folk in his district don't sit up and send Butters a commanding mandate by not voting him back into office, for the sake of both the Republican party and more importantly, the moral values our community, the State and the Church are trying to convey to the Nation and World... namely, that we're not a bunch of racist, anti-Black, bigoted bunch of backwoods hicks trying to look like sophisticated citizens of the modern openly democratic society we are supposed to be part and parcel of.
Someone within the Republican party needs to make a primary run for Butters seat NOW! And all the party's loyal needs to see to it that Butter's looses the primary and the new, hopefully more rational and considerate, choice is able to repair the damage to party and the church.
Re: Grundle... Been outside since the turn of the century much??? The word "Lynch Mob" has taken on a "racist" meaning, especially in the South (there are people who move here from the South who find the term very offensive).
TO: "I WAS about to subscribe": Wouldn't it be nice if there was a local paper that only reported on "piano recitals" and "animal control" issues? Until that paper starts, you're pretty much stuck with a Newspaper printing News... Dang.
Dear NAACP: Please continue your fight to advance the cause of African Americans in this part of the country. Many of these posts sound like they are coming from the backwoods of the South, but I believe you will notice that many sound like intelligent, educated, tolerant individuals who are looking to make Utah a positive place for everyone to raise their children.
Does anyone remember the Trent Lott controversy? Can anyone imagine what would have happened to Trent Lott if he had called legislation a "black baby" and a "dark ugly thing"?
Mr. Buttars: You have brought more shame on South Jordan, the Utah State Senate, and the State of Utah than anyone in my lifetime. If you have any sense of personal dignity and honor you will RESIGN NOW!!
Buttars' reign of hate will continue.
RESIGN, BUTTARS, RESIGN!! You embarrass this entire state.
On the other hand, the hate-mongers who have spewed their vitriol on this board have left now doubt about their own intolerance and bigotry... they let it all hang out for everybody to see. What of them? I fear for the future of our state and country.
To those of you that still support the Butt. Hey, it's a democracy so feel free. After all everybody has a right to march to a different drummer, or goose step as the case may be.
The less we see of him the better.
And all you Republicans who vote straight party ticket in November, remember Buttars will very likely be on that that ticket! Don't vote straight Republican party ticket! (BTW, a very high percentage of Utahns vote straight party Republican. About 40% in my Cedar Hills precinct voted straight party Republican in the 2004 general election.)
Looks like a lot of smoke from someone(s) looking for an axe to grind.
A community is pointing out bigotry.

Yep, everyone of those are racist in nature. So be honest with yourselves when you use those terms. Quit trying to hide behind your bigotted nature and just go ahead and replace all of those blacks with the word Negro.
Please get rid of him!
My suggestion to Utahns who do not like the predominant Utah culture - consider moving to one of the 49 other states. Utah has just as much right to its culture as does California. The states were intended to be sovereign entities in their own right, not just be sockpuppets of the Federal government.
Unlike the cowardly Trent Lott and George Allen, who groveled in the face of political correctness, Chris Buttars is standing strong in the face of this political lynching. God bless him!
My "bubble" that I raise my kids in does not contain lack of consequences for poor behavior, nor should the Utah Senate.
The third week in March the Republican Party holds caucus meetings to elect delegates to the County Convention. The delegates choose the candidates for the party including Senator Buttars. Typically only a handful of people show up making it easy to get elected. They even elected me one year and I'm a flaming liberal.
If only the Eagle Forum type folks show up then they will continue to choose candidates like Chris. If you show up you may find someone who shares your values who can actually be a statesman.
I don't criticize the activist who do show up and tend to dominate the convention. They are doing what they are supposed to do under the system. The rest of us are not. That's why we have a legislature that seems more interested in narrow causes that what we sent them there for.
I'll see you at the caucus meetings!
