A little checking would have shown that Col. Halvorsen, and the Airlift in general, flew the C-54 - a military version of the Douglas DC-6. Is it so hard to get your facts straight before you publish? The C-47 was the workhoarse of WWII airlift, most notably flying the "Hump" from India to China, but was outmoded and lacked the cargo capacity needed to supply the citizens of Berlin.

I love Gail S. Halvorsen; he is the father of one of my friends. We all lived in the same area in Virginia. I have heard his story many times and each time it is a new experience. He loved dropping the candy and gum. He has taken the time to do the candy drop over some of the schools in Utah so the children could experience what the children in Berlin experienced. I am glad that he will again be honored for his service during World War II. He deserves the honor. I will gladly leave my name, Marilyn Harding Stephens
