An uphill climb: Famed mountain climber from Ogden battling MS

Fifty years of playing. That must have been fun.

I would hope that Jeff would concentrate on his experience of having MS and how his disability has hampered his physical body but not his mind or spiritual abilities. My son has MS and I am always looking for those special people who have conquered or are about conquering their uphill climb over the disability of Multiple Sclerosis. They need all the help and positive thoughts that they can get.

That makes me feel like I need to go get a life. Who knew that "rock climbing" was so cool?? What is he going to do with himself now? geneology? Scrapbooking? I need a hobby. There is a fine line between hobbies and insanity.

Learning about famous people who develop dreaded illnesses like MS always make me think of the unheralded evryday man and women out there suffering the same with no notariety to help them along. I have Horner's syndrome and tremors on my right side that cause me more psychological problems than physical. I hope Jeff uses his unfortunate circumstances and famous personality to get the word out about healthcare for all who need it regardless of being insured or not. I am not famous, unable to get healthcare insurance, and have no voice to convince those people that can help to do so.

How much will this cost the citizens of Ogden for another of the Mayors folly. Another water increase to pay for these private ventures, or just divert more of the city funds. Our water bill just went up at least $10 a month per household to pay for water and sewer upgrades, will the mayor use this money to pay for a few climbers.

All of that money is going directly to the "few climbers" I say that sarcastically in the most high degree. Advice: start a lemonade stand on 106 S in salt lake and earn $10 a month.

You will thank me later.

I will show you the money! Since these programs have started the city of Ogden has been growing, the property value has increased, and there have been more jobs available in higher pay scales.

My hats off to Jeff Lowe for showing the courage and vision which benefits the future of Ogden. I have lived here for 2 years and Ogden is going to be a mecca for all outdoor sports. I wish Jeff only the best and hope that there is a miracle cure for MS in his future.

Having grown up with the Lowe family in Ogden, I was quite saddened to read the news about Jeff. The Lowe family's contribution to mountaineering and the outdoors is legendary and I consider knowing Jeff's family one of the high points of my life.

Those who wonder if Jeff will continue to make important contributions to the goals to which he sets his mind need not be concerned. I am sure that he will continue to be driven by the internal strength that is beyone most individuals. Afterall, this is what has really allowed him to accomplish his extraordinary feats.

Ogden is fortunate to have Jeff return and be involved in the local commuity.

God Bless - Healing and rehab is not fun, believe me. I am very grateful that I am not quadriplegic, and I feel badly for you - you are the true God-Father of Ice Climbing. Hang in there.

Back in the mid 70s Jeff was passing through the south and met my petite girlfriend, now my wife, who was a college student. Their meeting lasted less than a day, but he made quite an impression on her. She fondly remembers Jeff even though she was sore for several days after the climb.

Outdoor sports including climbing have put meaning into a lot of young people's lives. I was born in Odgen and now live in Thailand but what Jeff and others are going has caught my eye.

I met Jeff Lowe at one of his evening REI seminars while he was visiting the city of Arcadia, CA a few years ago, and was stunned to see that he had difficult y exiting his car to go into the building because I did not yet know of his illness.

I happen to be a physician as well as a climber and felt incredibly fortunate to be able to meet this man, and very saddened by his misfortune. He is a contemporary of mine, and I feel exactly as he as so well stated about the importance of our striving to
define what matters to us in life and direct ourselves to those goals. And he is so right about something else: everything ends except the memories, both for ourselves and those who come after us.

With luck, I will once again encounter Jeff Lowe and be able to express to him my gratitude for taking us into his universe of adventure.

Totally agree climing is great! Even better when you have a climbing partner to help you down when you get stuck. GO FOR IT! Tried it and loved it.

Just as an FYI concerning the complaint about the water bill, I believe the Ouray Ice park brings about 4 million annually to the town. If your bill went up $10 to get back $4 million? I'd take that trade.

jeff is ahead of the curve, in late 80's he sponsored sport climbing competitions, losing money, america as a whole wasn't ready but his vision was right on, he doesn't possess a huge ego like some hotties, best of luck to Jeff.
