Wedding bills: Marriage is a $250 million industry in Utah

cheap but nice wedding | 2:01 p.m. Feb. 10, 2008
Weddings can get out of hand !! People spend way too much on things they
don't need. I had three daughters get married within six months - so we
had to be frugal. We gave them each $2,500 and said - spend it on what you
want. They all say they had enough money and they loved their weddings. It is
all in the attitude !

I don't think families should be spending $10,000 on weddings. For most
families, it takes many months of working to save $10,000. Go for the less
expensive options, focus on the weddding ceremony (or temple ceremony), use
friends to do a lot of the flowers and cakes, etc. This way, you can get away
with a $3,000 wedding and never look back.

The irony is that money problems are the biggest cause of divorce yet people go
way into debt to get married through things like buying rings and paying for the
wedding and going on a honeymoon. This often starts the marriage in debt which
only helps doom them for divorce.

If you must spend money, spend it on wedding pictures.

I find it interesting that of the four previous comments, the three with names
listed appeared to be males. As a mother of several hopeful future brides and as
a female, I feel some things are worth paying for and I don't think it is
outrageous to spend 10K for a wedding if it doesn't financially strain (I
said strain, not challenge) the couple or their families.
