Despite the fact that CNG is so clean and inexpensive (64/gallon) most people aren't even aware it exists. The governor is to be commended for encouraging the use of natural gas to clean the air and reduce our use of imported oil. There is currently a $3000 state tax credit available to anyone who purchases a clean-burning CNG vehicle (new or used), however, the state legislature is trying to take away the tax credit and eliminate the largest incentives to use CNG vehicles. Please write your state legislator and ask them to vote NO on HB 106.
Nearsighted? | 12:48 p.m. Feb. 7, 2008
As a Bi-Fuel fleet owner and businessman in SLC I am amazed that the state would even consider eliminating the incentive. The legislators need to get above the brown soup we affectionately call inversion (we don't call it smog) and see what we all have to breathe. CNG is a great intermediate step to alternative fuels here in Utah. Questar Gas has done their part to make it more convenient and Utah ranks second in the country for CNG stations after CA, and probably first per capita. How near sighted do we have to be? Any movement from the status quo should be encouraged and incentives, tax credits, and considerations like free "C" license plates should be ways to encourage the citizens to do the right thing. Those of us who do know about the advantages, however, still get to smile when a fill-up is less than $7 and we know we are helping do our part for the environment.

Something needs to be done to open up the "Private Access" CNG service stations and make them a public source. All Questar CNG stations must be changed to "Public Access". There are too many private access CNG stations in this state. Incentives must be extended to gasoline service station dealers to provide CNG just as many provide diesel today. Other than the fact that a car is fueled with CNG, it is still an automobile that needs check ups and tire repairs that every other vehicle requires.
