Why not come to SUU and be part of something very special in rebuilding the program? While I'm disappointed, I wish this young man the best and hope things work out.

Good decision Stewart. Good luck on the mission, and good luck at BYU. You will fit in nicely there, and when you get your shot, you will impress. Go T-Wovles!

I'm a Timpview fan, but Timpanogos has a spread offense that should prepare this QB for their system. Best of luck to you. I watched the Timpanogos freshman play Timpview and they had a QB that could be the best frosh I've seen in years. Not sure who he is, but look out for that kid.

Because he will get no exposure at SUU. If he goes to BYU at least he has a chance to get a starting job and be seen more than he would at SUU.

Good things come to those that wait. I hope he has a good and safe mission and when he comes back to BYU I hope he's another Jim Mcmann or Steve Young. To those other schools who don't want to wait for him, I hope that you all will regret it.

TOO BAD | 9:57 a.m. Feb. 4, 2008
It's really sad to see a great young man with alot of talent to see D1 schools turn their heads as soon as they find out he is planning on going on an LDS mission. I don't understand why a 3 year starter did not get a scholarship at BYU. They gave out alot of scholarships this year and even made a offer to a QB in southern cal who turned it down. I guess it might be because this high school only finished 3rd in region don't know? What is the deal with HS QB in Utah, they don''t get respect!!!

Utah QB's | 10:02 a.m. Feb. 4, 2008
Isn't it funny that utah schools go out of state for their QB's If you had a utah QB with a cal QB and the utah QB had better stats these utah schools including BYU would go out of state. If Stuart was a QB in California he would have offers from D1 schools all over the country.

Are you CRAZY kid - go somewhere where they want you and want you bad enough to give you a scholarship. Graduating from college with no student loan debt is huge. If you are a true top 5 QB you will have no problem getting offers. However, if your dream is BYU and only BYU will do then take that RISK.

BYU Walk On | 10:04 a.m. Feb. 4, 2008
It's great to get a walk on to BYU. However he will never play. BYU has several QB's with scholarships which means they have potential in BYU's eyes. And they will get all the attention and focus from BYU coaches. He should go play out of state.

Its a GAME | 10:18 a.m. Feb. 4, 2008
If youre walking on with preferred status then your coaches have been talking with BYU and know you want to go to BYU bad. I have personally seen this happen time and time again with college sports. And yes folks BYU is no different than any other college out there. Its a game they play with the minds of talented young kids that more or less guarantees that the college eliminates any risk knowing that usually a kid wont play until his junior year and save 2 years of scholarship money on him and then if he fits into their system they give him a scholarship if not they have lost nothing. Advice to kid, go somewhere where they are willing to pay for your education while you take a chance on fitting into their system.

"Its a game": With BYU costing less than a majority of D-I schools and being able to save money by being close to parents, BYU is more of a value than a scholarship could produce. Football is not an end all and the intangibles at BYU are worth more than "wasting" two years somewhere else.

As a BYU alum, I obviously think BYU is the best choice, even without the scholarship. It's a great education, in a great environment, at a great price. What I don't understand is how the other teams will pass him up becuase he is going on a mission, but when BYU plays plays against those teams, they will complain about BYU's more "mature" players?

With the offers that he received, he couldn't have been that good of a recruit. Weber? SUU? Go ahead and walk on and stay away from the U, because we don't want that second tier talent. Why is this even a story? "A second rate football player passes up on stellar offers from SUU & Weber to walk on at BYU?" Wow...you'd think there would be more news to fill up the paper after the Super Bowl and with the Jazz playing well?

I hope he gets a fair shot at BYU because he is a nice QB. He and teammates played with heart against the State Champion Hawks from ALta. Stewart throws a nice ball and has a pretty good arm. I think he can throw it 60+ through the air. Hey, what about their talented tailback Taylor Lyons? Where is he going to play in college? I think he could be a nice H-back or slot back for the Cougars as well. If the report is true(that he may run a 4.4 40,), then BYU would be nuts not to offer him because he can run and catch well and is a very good athlete. He's probably 5'10" and weighs 180 but he can flat out play. Where is he going?

Only a few of the posters on this forum understand how difficult it is for LDS players to get scholarships if they are going on a mission. Many division I schools that would have offered a scholarship lose all interest after finding out the kid will serve a mission. While some top recruits are able to overcome this, many kids that are division I caliber are turned away. My hat is off to this kid for having the faith to serve a mission... it is a big sacrifice.

If this kid wasn't going on a mission he probably would have gotten offers from some top flight schools. Unfortunately, LDS kids that plan on serving a mission are seen as too much of a risk because their commitment contract isn't binding by the time they get back.
