If this game wasn't picked up by The MTN (which I wouldn't get anyway) why couldn't BYUTV pick it up and show it maybe after the Womans Game?

When BYU is playing well they can compete w/ anyone. Look at the MSU and NC games for example. When we are in a slump we could lose to anyone. Look at BSU and Wake for example.

I think we regained our confidence and should be fine for the rest of the season. Can't wait to get UNLV at the Marriot center

Next time... | 7:41 a.m. Jan. 31, 2008
Trent, next time, get the flu shot! Next time, wash your hands! Also, to all you cheap employers who offer no sick days....you will get yours. When employees drag themselves into work sick, because there is no sick time, everyone will get sick and your business will suffer. I see it every year where I work. Also, to you parents who bring sick kids to church, keep them home. Trent should have stayed home and not infected everyone else who touched the ball.

Live or die by the outside shot | 8:02 a.m. Jan. 31, 2008
Great game for the Cougs. But it is becoming clear that we rely on our outside shooting. Yes, Plaisted is solid and should be NBA ready after his senior year but other than him we really are a perimeter team. Our power forward shoots more threes than anyone. I just wish we had one or two more inside players to take up the slack if our outside game is not on. Next year should see Miles more ready to contribute bringing more balance inside if we can run some lineups with both him and Plaisted together.

Give it up next time | 8:04 a.m. Jan. 31, 2008
Good grief. First off, the flu shot protects against the respiratory illness. There is a nasty stomach virus going around and you don't know you are contagious until you get it. After that, it's get over it and go about life, you don't infect anyone. Maybe you ought to get a job where there are benefits.

Clarification... | 8:10 a.m. Jan. 31, 2008
I just wrote the post titled "Pathetic" and it should read that BYU needs to beat some upper echelon teams on the road..such as Nex Mexico and San Diego State. I already saw how we've done on the road against UNLV, and Wake, and BSU. I'm sure New Mexico and San Diego will be fired up to beat the lady cougars. Anyways...sorry to be so pessimistic, but every year...year after year...BYU football and Basketball do this to the fans. Somebody needs to tell the programs...that winning the MWC is not the ultimate goal any more. It's winning games in the NCAA tourney, and playing for National championships in Football. I'm sick of Bronco, and Rose thinking the MWC is their ultimate goal. That's why they do are so unprepared when we play non-conference games. It isn't going to change anytime soon either.

To Clarification: are you kidding me? Mendenhall and Rose always talk about the national scene and winning those games and the BCS. Are you in another world.

Actually.... | 9:29 a.m. Jan. 31, 2008
Actually I do have benefits. I have an engineering degree and a masters degree in business. Yet, in today's outsourced economy companies can get away with no sick leave and other such cost cutting measures (of course the cost is actually greater NOT to have sick leave...). Anyway, neither you nor I know exactly what virus Trent had, maybe a stomach virus, but since he was throwing up on Monday night, he obviously knew he was sick and potentially communicable. By the way, the flu shot saves billions of dollars in lost wages, hospital stays, etc. every year.

Shot gun: I hope your comment was tongue-in-cheek when you commented that BYU was the best team in the MWC. BYU and UNLV are both 5-1, but UNLV has played 4 of 6 on the road, while BYU has played 3 at home and 3 on the road, one of which was the 29 point debacle in Las Vegas.

BYU was very, very fortunate to get by SDSU at home, while UNLV beat the Aztecs in San Diego.

UNLV also has a better overall record, with a strength of schedule rating and an RPI rating that exceeds BYU.

At least for now, though it can change quickly, UNLV is the best of the MWC.

Doctor Next time... I AM SURE TRENT does wash his hands... and for your information the whole TEAM got flu SHOTS. So before you go and try to be DR. QUINN maybe you should fully get your facts right. Trent stayed in a room in Colorado all by himself....so he wasn't around any of the other players.

UNLV is the best... | 9:56 a.m. Jan. 31, 2008
Realistically (I'm the "get the flu shot guy", by the way), BYU will finish second in the regular season and second in the tournament, due to the fact that UNLV is obviously the best team. UNLV will play the tournament on their home floor, again unfortunately, and will win it again. BYU has not yet proven they can beat good teams on their home floor. The win against AF was nice, but they are a middle of the road team. A win at SDSU would convince me...let's hope whatever magic we had against Louisville returns. We may end up in the NIT otherwise. Well, I guess either way or any way, it will be "one and done". BYU basketball has not "delivered" since Danny Ainge's run in 1981. I'd love to see it this time, I was out of the country on a mission the last time BYU basketball "did something"! Basketball just always disappoints me. Hopefully I am wrong this time...

This Y fans predictions | 10:40 a.m. Jan. 31, 2008
Right now, UNLV is the best team. BYU is clearly the second best team. That being said, this is the way I see it going... BYU beats UNLV by 15-20 at the MC. The Y will lose one more on the road, probably at SDSU and finish 2nd behind UNLV. The Y will lose to UNLV in the tournament finals (simply because it's at Thomas & Mack) the Y gets no national respect and draws another 11 or 12 seed where they play a tough team from one of the larger conferences somewhere in the east or south. The Y plays a really good game but lose by somewhere around 5-10. Sound familiar???

Re: Y fan prediction... | 11:07 a.m. Jan. 31, 2008
You couldn't be any more RIGHT!!!!! This has been the same scenario over the last 4 to 5 years..and it is played out right infront of our eyes every year. In fact, BYU will even have a 10 to 12 point lead against their first round opponet in the NCAA tourney, and then they will blow the lead, and end up losing by 5 to 10 points. Example Xavier, and Syracuse. BYU has just never been able to get it done on the national scene. BYU had every opportunity against Mich. St., and N.C., but couldn't get it done. Until BYU gets a great point (example: Ainge in 1981) guard..BYU will always be one and done in the tourney. Good teams put pressure on BYU's below average guard line (example: Burgess & Murdock) or they penetrate and kill BYU's guards (example: Lavender, Xavier's guard last year). To make a long story short unless BYU gets a good point guard that can penetrate, and create his own shot..Teams will just double and triple team Plaistead, Cummard chokes like Bigelow, and Tavernari shoots us out of the game. Sound familiar?

Maybe some of you need to reread the article. AFA may be a middle of the road team, but not at home. And, lets see, one of the teams that lost at Clume was UNLV. Yes, UNLV has looked good, but the Cougs are not as bad as they played in Vegas. There does need to be some consistency and I think that it is starting to show. If they get back to playing the way they started the year then they win the MWC and do some damage in the NCAAs.

Here's my thought...STOP WATCHING BYU BASKETBALL!!! let the rest of the BYU fans enjoy the game and enjoy the players. Will they win the MWC? Who knows...Will they win the first game in the NCAA's? who knows. Do we enjoy wtching them? YOU BET!! Get a life and just enjoy the game.

What makes you think that BYU will make it to the NCAA with a second place finish? If they dont win the tourney, they wont be in the NCAA because they just havent played consistent enough. BYU will be in the NIT unless they win the MW tourney. Just not consistent enough I say.

Jerry McNamara single handedly won the game for Syracuse. I was at that game. He hit 10+ threes and most of them were fading away with Hall's hand in his face. Should have been Bigelow guarding him, but that was the fault of Steve Cleveland's inability to adjust in games.
AND, if BYU only loses 2 more games, assuming one of them is to UNLV in the MWC finals, they will for sure get a bid to the tourney. Get a clue.
