It appears to me that Huckabee will stay in long enough to deny Romney the chance to pick up the conservative voters who would never support McCain due to his past support of non-conservative policies.
If McCain gets the nomination, I will have to re-consider my support for the Republican party. I've felt alienated by a lot of Bush's policies (big spending, support for amnesty for illegals, etc...).
Based on how the party establishment is treating the more conservative members (Romney, Paul, Tancredo), it really seems that the conservative wing is being disenfranchised. I would be willing to vote Democrat during this upcoming election to send a message to the Republican leadership that they are not representing me anymore.
Some of the backroom deals he is cutting with his fellow politicians like Huckabee, Guiliani, Crist, and Swartzaneger are especially troubling. Each of these clowns has been promised something to betray principle and throw in with McCain. Don't you just wonder what he has promised each of these people? Huckabee, Guiliani, and Crist have probably been promised positions within a McCain administration.
McCain owes a lot of political debts and we the American public will have to pay them if he is elected. Romney owes no such debts.
Romney is the only person who has run since Reagan who would be as good as or better than Reagan.
Another point is this so-called "flip-flopping". McCain changes his positions on an hourly basis but has the gall to accuse Romney of doing just this. Sure Romney changed a couple of positions because he was wrong. McCain "changed" his positions on amnesty to temporarily fool the public. Mitt, please save us from this awful man.
Romney, on the other hand, worked to make the Olympics profitable, so the average Utahn wasn't paying for the Olympics for years to come.
For some reason I looked the other way when he stood smiling beside his mother while she vilified Mormons.
I cannot look the other way when he lies about Governor Romney's position on time tables for withdrawal in Iraq. He raised that point in a timely manner to let the lie hang in the air so he, Senator McCain, could win military votes in the panhandle of Florida. He is disingenuous, he is a lier, and our Governor supports Senator McCain who is using such tactics. It was the worst kind of dishonest, Washington insider politics.
Is an interesting article highlights the irrelevancy of all except Dr Paul's words.

He's a slug, and he'll "gun boat politic" our country into debt and ruin. While other countries are working to become economic powers, McCain still sees our country as a military super-power, and those of his ilk will waste our money and our young men making enemies across he globe.
If you want to save the country, the USA, vote "RON PAUL" for President. John McCain and Mitt Romney support the presence of illegal aliens and open border policies for the illegals to penetrate and victimize the American people. Ron Paul is the only candidate that wants to reagin the soverignty of the United States and also put government back in the hands of the people, not a business owned government that we have had for too many years. We are seeing the results of business in control of government and the economy, now we need some real leadership and backbone in government that we can get with RON PAUL at the helm. He is being backdoored by the news media and political manipulation because he stands for the people which none of the other candidates espouse, democrat or republican.

In my entire life, I have never voted for a Democratic Presidential candidate, but I will this year should McCain come out with the nomination. This man is completely unimpressive and too OLD to be president.
You see this when a team gets ahead by a few points and then changes their game to keep the ball, wait, patiently wait for the other team to foul, etc. Wait for your opponent to make a mistake.
Is Romney powerless against this new strategy? His adviors know that he is in trouble. So look for a hard foul, or a couple of 3 pointers to try to catch up. Coming from behind is very difficult on the political field of basketball.
McCain also is a senior, very senior actually, and he knows what to do. Mitt, warm up the 3 point shooters, and change your press. Otherwise, the tournament belongs to the senior experienced team.
Rah! Rah sisboombah!!
I'm going to write in somebody, but I won't vote for McCain this election.
What a silly man.
If we want conservative values, vote for Romney. Don't let McCain split the vote. Remember, "A house divided against itself cannot stand." The Republican party divided against itself will not preserve the conservative values the majority of us espouse. Our children's future is grim if we do not defeat McCain and the democrats.
Those of faith, fast and pray for Romney and his advisors that they will know how to overcome the wiles of McCain and that people's hearts and eyes will be opened to what is truly in McCain's heart.
Loyal, Intelligent,
Hard Working, Solver of Problems both Economic and Moral,
Affluent enough to not be beholden to any special interest group.
Young enough and willing enough, to handle the job as President. (He even looks Presidential)
Near perfect as a man could be!
AND ALL THIS IS PROVEN not by political manuvering...but by past record.
WAKE UP AMERICA!
I don't agree with John McCain on many policies, however, the thing that really bothers me is the way comes right out and lies, and also does it in such a sneaky manner, like 2 days before the Florida primary. Also he is constantly saying how we shouldn't elect someone who flip-flops. Sure Romney has changed positions on a couple of issues, but he isn't changing positions on a daily basis like McCain often does.
I will not vote for Hillary or Obama. However if I really had to, I would rather vote for them than McCain. I don't agree with anything they stand for, but at least they stand for something. McCain on the other hand is a sheep in wolf's clothing.
Huckabee is NOT keeping evangelicals from voting for Romney. They'd vote for McCain over Romney. Look at the polls, folks.
McCain leads in the polls when matched up against Hillary Clinton or Obama. He could really win this thing.
Most Americans don't trust Mitt Romney. I don't think it is his religion as much as it is his political record and personality. Mitt Romney has a great family and business record, but lacks the common touch. I don't know if Mitt knows who he really is. He is NOT a conservative, so he comes off as disingenuous.
McCain is a moderate, but he knows that and we know that. He also stood up to the Bush admin. on torture, has crossed party lines on various issues, etc. But Americans KNOW McCain. They don't know Romney.
I enjoyed your comments and couldn't agree with you more.
The republican party isn't thinking.
It is going to take 4 years of Hillary to make the republicans finally unite.
Mitt Romney in 2012!!
Romney on the other hand is very impressing. He shows that even though he's getting the heat from all the candidates, that he can handle it with exceptional composier. He's stong under fire, and I think he has the leadership skills to run this country. He makes plans and sticks to them. He doesn't give up. He's smart.
I just hope that McCain isn't the front runner for the race. We would be in serious trouble if he were elected president.
It sounds like you only caught the first half of Sean Hannity yesterday. I didn't actually hear the show, but I heard all about it from my husband. He told me how Hannity got on and basically endorsed McCain and went into the reasons why and how the party was evolving.
Well it comes down to it that Sean Hannity was actually putting on an act to make a point about how badly American will be heading if McCain gets the nomination.
His overall point was that the true conservatives need to be stronger than ever in order to keep our country headed in the right direction.
Your right!
Mitt Romney in 2012!
