You made me chuckle.

To Brooke and David: Thanks for your example. There are many young members of the Church that are watching you very closely. You have had a bigger influence on them than you realize. God bless.

How interesting that David is a Mormon he has such a great voice and comes over as a lovely person , which is nice . As for Ernest's comment- well it sure is big news whether someone is a Mormon when they are in court for some heinous crime , it is certainly reported then as somehow 'relevant' or 'indicative' and no reporter worth their salt would omit that little irrelevance because they know it would spike interest- many people just loving it when they see another person's fall from grace ! Mormon's doing well are surely as interesting a Mormon ne'er do wells ? No? Oh well - one can hope .

I've thought a lot about the question "why does it matter if they are Mormon?"
We as LDS are one big family. If one of my family members was on American Idol, or doing anything else worthwhile, I would want the world to know that they are part of my family. I as a member, feel as if Brooke and David are part of my family.
It matters to me.

I think that is amazing. i have been watching american idol for along time now, it is finally awsome that we have some new fresh people like us that are out there trying to achieve there dream in a good way.

I kind of laugh about the people who sign on and ask "why does it matter that their LDS". To be totally honest that's what I ask myself whenever an LDS person does something bad and the first thing out of the article reads that they were LDS. I bet the people who are griping about the fact that the news is making it a big deal out of them being LDS are the same people who have a hay day with critical remarks when someone LDS messes up.

I would like to know why mormons act as if they are better than others? Just because these idols have talent it isn't because they are mormon. I'm tired of the talk abt "mormon glow" and all the purity. I have felt nothing but badgered by people who are mormon. Their nametags and squeaky clean image is only a front to cover up the fact that they want to convert you! Mormons have left an awful taste in my mouth and I was disappointed to find out these idols were mormons. If one of them win the mormon community will make a huge deal that they deserved to win because they're mormons! I hate this abt this religion! I hardly think Christians would be saying "go christians" as I've seen some comments from the mormon community. It makes my point driven home even harder when I see all these bias comments from mormons!

To "Confused from Arizona:"

How did you ever get the impression that Mormons act as if they are better than others? These singers in American Idol are not "better" simple because they are Mormon, they simply bring a different kind of light to the stage, and I think that people like to see this more and more.
These contestants aren't better just because they are Mormon, but they are truely talented people.

Do you see them trying to convert anyone? Is David Archuleta or Brooke White up there singing about how everyone should be a mormon? No, I don't think so.

So until you really know what being Mormon is all about, and you understand that not every Mormon in this world is the same, I think you should keep your opinions to yourself.

Confused in Arizona, I am sorry to hear you feel that way towards Mormons and if Mormons have been harsh to you in any way. We are taught to Love one another as Jesus loves us. We are Christians, just like you. But we are also human. We aren't perfect. We are taught to be Christlike, and to be good people. I try to follow the example of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and be nice to others. I can't tell you why Mormons around you seem to think they are better than others, I can just say that we aren't. Everyone is special and is a Child of God. Everyone is important. That includes you. Always remember that. Again, my apologies for any rudeness towards you by Mormons.

that's the dumbest thing I've ever hear. "Mormons are good singers." why would a religion (or cult if you will) make someone a better singer?
NZLDS | 6:24 p.m. June 13, 2008
It is good to see any one (of any religious persuasion or not) succeed. There is good wholesome music out there that is produced and sung by people who are not members of the LDS faith. I listen to and love the music.
With that said, David Archuleta and Brook White along with a host of other talented singers/song writers who just so happen to 'also be LDS' - have done well for themselves and their given talents. We all get so caught up with the 'LDS pride driven idolizing' and fail to realize what it is that we're doing - 'idolizing'!
Not to say that this will happen - but where will we all be if David Archuleta and Brook White sing or say things that are contrary to our religious beliefs? (actors Aaron Eckhart and Katherine Heigl for example...we're not too quick now to stand and show our LDS pride with them now are we?)
NZLDS | 6:32 p.m. June 13, 2008
Oh...and it's still extremely funny that there are people out there (Lindsey - insinuation or not) who "think" that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is a 'cult'. LOL
Having said that - I agree somewhat with Lindsey's comment in that we're back to this whole 'pride driven idolizing' thing where we say things like 'Mormons are good singers'. (People of other religious leanings are not exempt from 'religious pride driven idolizing' either...including athiest!)

who said they are mormons?
it shouldnt matter anyways, but still. they could be christians also. but whatever. people need to stop getting in other peoples buisness, because they should be famous for thier SINGING. not for their personal life.

ACTUALLY, DAVID ARCHULETA IS A CHRISTIAN LIKE ME. WE BOTH GO TO THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER DAY SAINTS. AND NOBODY IN THAT CHURCH "WORSHIPS" MORMON. SURE IT'S CALL THE BOOK OF MORMAN, BUT WE "WORSHIP" JESUS CHRIST, NOT MORMON. SO, SPREAD THIS AROUND TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE AND REPEAT AFTER ME, "THE "MORMANS" DON'T "WORSHIP" MORMAN, BUT THEY DO "WORSHIP" JESUS CHRIST. THEREFORE, THEY ARE CHRISTIANS." AFTER ALL, OUR CHURCH IS CALL "THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER DAY SAINTS FOR A REASON.(AND NOT MORMAN)
