This is a measure trying to escape the great need in all of Utah for traffic enforcement officers...That costs money...But look around and all the violations and violators...They're everywhere. We're going to solve the problem by reporting on people violating the law? Any District Attorney that allows this method of enforcement is not worth his salt. Let's hear what they have to say.
SANTA MONICA, California (CNN) -- An 86-year-old man who drove his mid-size Buick through a crowded farmers' market Wednesday told police he couldn't stop and may have hit the accelerator instead of the brake, Santa Monica Police Chief James T. Butts Jr. said.
Nine people were killed, including a 3-year-old girl, authorities said. The more than 54 hurt include 14 people with critical injuries, they said. Two of those critically injured are under the age of 2.
This man had a history that shows had he had his drivign rights revoked this would not have happened. This took place in 2003
'Single most horrific, devastating scene of tragedy'
As police roped off the crime scene, a child's blue stroller sat empty in the street amid bodies covered with yellow tarps.
What a sad and lonely society we have become.........
That said
(1)I am sure Mr.Christensen didn't just make this up alone out of thin air...he is responding to a percieved problem.
(2)I do know that there is a problem, I know of several who are a threat to me and you because of real driving problems. When you are laying on the pavement it is a little late to say I should have reported him before.
(3)You can report a person now. You can do it falsely...your group can even agree to testify falsly and harass others.
(4)I hope that the bill would have some consequences for false reporting or harrassment and that the Division would not have a "knee-jerk" reaction based on a single un-documented report but would use professional judgement just as officers do now.
(5)I also assume that a person would establish a pattern of being an accurate or a problem reporter. There has to be accountability for reporters also.
(6)I am personally in favor of an appropriate law !
Yes, a lot of California drivers are loose on our streets, but a tattle-law would have to require a higher standard of description and proof of lousy driving, than just another knee-jerk reaction.
I suggest turning in all of the legislators who vote for this law.
Lets just hope that the police are able to get to work after all of the personal cars of the police, highway patrol, and Sheriffs are turned in.
