I think the council is missing the point. The whole idea is to make it HARD for people to buy political influence. The argument that it is a hassle just doesn't make sense.

Sounds like you would prefer to do away with campaign donations altogether, am I right? With that in mind, only the wealthy will be able to run. I wonder if that is a better idea? Or, perhaps we should force every citizen to pay for every candidate to run, whether or not we agree with their policies. Not quite sure if that is the best option either. What would you suggest?

The prohibition of anonymous donations infringes on the political free speech of people who fear retaliation from empoloyers. It infringes on the privacy rights of others who wish to be involved in politics but not have themselves or their family members criticized for supporting the "WRONG" candidate.
