Lessons from Iowa

It's time for a president that can persuade with words instead of guns.
So here's to Obama. And here's hoping that he'll continue to do well.

The old system produced Republican candidates such as Bob Dole in a far better field, let's hope a viable national Republican candidate and potential world leader such as Mitt Romney can make it through the old boy (old beaters) and political special interests of the primaries.

"freedom from religion" or "freedom of religion"?
Depends on who you ask. Republicans go for the "of" and Dems are in the "from" camp.
Perhaps this is why the religion issue is so important to the republicans. They need to know what "of" they are voting for.

Ron Paul made an excellent showing, beating Guiliani. May those who posses the spirit of Liberty unite behind the Champion of the Constitution.

If Romney were to have beaten Huckabee in Iowa, it would have been similar to Huckabee beating Romney in Utah, not likely. Most evangelical and Baptist republicans in Iowa would have voted for anyone, even a democrat before they would have voted for any Mormon.

Of course most Utahns will vote for Romney and not consider anyone else. Huckabee's "personality" will be of little value to him in Utah. In most of the other states religion will not be the deciding factor. Conservative Iowans had to give up their political, economic, and illegal immigration principles in favor of their evangelical/Baptist religion. That is neither good nor bad, it is just the way things are. With Iowa 2006 population at 2,982,085 and Utah 2,550,063 their political influence shouldn't be much difference as far as the nation is concerned, and so let's not get carried away with Iowa.

The editorial makes it sound as though Romney was blindsided by Hucabee attack ads. Romney has been using negative advertising too. In fact, he's been using negative ads more. Romney didn't lose because Huckabee went negative--plain and simple.
