Readers' forum: Huckabee did produce ad

Reading comments in this LDS owned paper serving a LDS populous in a predominately LDS state, I read letters like yours that assume the worst in people and are total absent of any forgiveness.

"Christian" is a powerful word in America's lexicon of English. Christian implies both a religious context and behavioral attributes.

Mormons appear, through their postings here, to be devoid of forgiveness and are incapable of turning the other cheek.

"We believe in the Bible, in so far as it as been translated correctly."

How do Mormons translate forgiveness and turning the other cheek?

Thank you for this letter to the editor. Yes, Huckabee ran his "negative" ad, though he said he wasn't going to be negative, and without spending a cent. He got free air time on national TV news interviews to talk about how negative the other candidates are (especially Romney, according to him) and how positive he is. But by listing what his opponents have done against him, he's got 3 fingers and a thumb pointing back at himself.

"By their fruits" -

I think you are confusing Sunday School with politics, just like Gov. Huckabee.

My view is that negative ads are actually pretty informative and useful in drawing distinctions between candidates which is what the campaign is all about. It's unfair when the media portrays Romney as being "negative" and Huckabee as "postive" and above the fray when that is quite false.

Huckabee certainly isn't afraid of resorting to the unseemly tactics of politics. I just want the media to call him on it as they do for others.

Gov. Huckabee has not apologized nor asked for anyone to forgive him. I don't think he needs to either. But claiming he has a higher moral authority than his opponents as he acts just like them is pretty disgraceful.

This should have nothing to do with attacking another's religion as you seem to be doing.

Since when is pointing out someone's record a negative thing? Mr Huckabee should be able to stand up for his own record. It is unfortunate that the media labels it negative when perhaps it is just telling the truth of someone's record....

Dear "by their fruits" I am sorry you are so unhappy. I think the members of the LDS Church are and have been quite forgiving. We forgive alot and let alot go by. Sometimes our cheeks are quite raw from turning them from mean, judgemental and unkind people...

Huckabee was disingenuous when he said he made the negative ad, then decided to pull it because he didn't want to go negative. He lied.

First off, he showed the ad to a roomful of journalists with VIDEO CAMERAS. He set it up for them to record and spread FOR him. It cost him nothing, and he tried to portray himself as the good guy. When he played the video for the journalists, they laughed heartily. They knew what he was up to, and being mostly liberal, helped him. They know he is one of the weakest candidates and could easily be defeated by a Democrat.

Second, he said that he decided to pull the ad just an hour previously. Not so. That giant printed backdrop--"enough is enough"--was not printed and hung during that hour. Impossible. Didn't happen. He planned it all, and the snarky behavior exposes him as crafty and dishonest.

Mitt is the best thing going. Real life success, analytical ability, brains, integrity. I think the Huckster is a flash in the pan. When people learn of his poor judgment and liberal policies through Mitt's comparison ads (at mittromney.com) or elsewhere, they'll reject him. He's toast.

Mitt '08!

the "Christian" qualities of Huckabee will continue to be displayed until his true nature is revealed.
