They cant find enough money to pay for teachers, state workers, or health
insurance for the poor....but they can find tons of money to make the capitol
building "Immaculate". I can understand the earthquake retro's.
but everything else sure seems like the good 'ol boys watching out for
themselves.....Just goes to show you where their priorities are..

Just wondering how many materials were sourced from outside of the USA and also
how many manhours of pay went to Illegal Aliens who were working on the project.
Could someone who worked there give us a rough estimate?

Oh come on folks! People come from all over the world to visit our fair city --
there is nothing wrong with wanting a beautiful state capitol that we can be
proud of! Safety is a plus.

Maybe they would prefer that we set up a couple mobile homes to house the Utah
government. Call up Diamond Rental to see how much it is for one of those big
tents for the senate. I agree with Laurie.

We were on vacation to Washington State this summer. Took a tour of their
capitol building. They show off the cracks in the marble caused by the last two
earthquakes there. The tour person told us that there are no plans to fix their
capitol. If there is a big earthquake it will simply come tumbling down killing
people inside. The great state of Washington must have other things to spend
money on instead of public safety improvements of its public facilities. While I
think that Utah should have kept the capitol in Fillmore where it belongs, we
are kind of stuck with it in SLC. Bravo to fixing it so it wont come crashing
down on our heads when the BIG one comes.

Sometimes you have to spend a little extra to ensure quality. This is one place
where the government should have a showpiece of a capitol building. Nothing
over the top, but elegant and tastful. I haven't seen the new restoration,
but feel assured that the building is appropriate for its purpose.
And I'll bet with some other budgeting adjustments, money can still be found for police, roads, schools, jails, parks and libraries.

I hope someone will get the homeless off the streets of Utah. Clean up where

The last time I was in that wonderful building, I was stunned at its condition.
It needed the updates. The electrical, the communications systems, the AC and
Heating. It's condition was deplorable. Inviting tourists or guests to it
was not my idea of a good impression. Lets face it, Utah needs something
positive going for it. If you could hear what people say about Utah around the
USA. You would be shocked, Now we can get a positive response and advertisment
of the State Capitol. Every little bit helps.
It would cost much more than 200 million to replace it in event of a disaster. It simply had to be done. Finally some positive news around the nation about Utah, Insted of negative. Something Positive on the news that is not LDS or Polygamy related.

It is not against the law to be an Adult in Arizona.

Just think of the millions spent here that could have been used to help the
hungry and poor. All I see here are those Utahns with money gloating. Greed is
not what this state should be about. It sickening to say the least! Taxes keep
going up while you guys gloat boast over your money and power and your waste of
money on a polished building. I hope God has a place for all you involved.

I am shocked and offended by this pretentious show of the legislature's
lack of compassion towards the people of this great state. To spend this kind of
money on the Capitol while under-funding those programs that blesses the lives
of our families, friends and neighbors is disgusting. I have read Klaus's
and Laurie's comments and find them to be as offensive as the actions of
these legislators. If beauty means so much to you and using our taxes to pay for
it while people are starving you should find a Church where you can pretend to
be a good person. As for me and mine, we will follow the Lord while the wicked
vote for these wicked legislators who waste our taxes and watch as those who
suffer continue to suffer. May God look upon these legislators with mercy
instead of judging their wicked actions harshly.

It's a fantastic building. It's great and very spacious. It is very
appropriate that those who have the sole management of our government should
have a nice place to spend the taxes imposed upon the people.
