Giri always looked like he was hustling on defense, but ineffectively. Korver looked like it was natural for him to defend someone, and his team switching defense seemed to mostly be there, again considering he's not used to playing with the team yet.
I'll bet Sloan not only left Korver in there in the fourth Quarter just to evaluate him, but also because Korver was being effective on both ends of the court. And it doesn't hurt to have a high-perctentage foul shooter on the floor when you're leading late in a game and the other team needs to foul to catch up.
Sure glad to see Kevin's still got the ability to find good players for this team. The sky's the limit. The team just needs to mature and gel.
I just wonder if he really fits into "sloan's style
of play" . . .
Gira was dealt with unfairly, but he's handled it with class (see today's Trib interview). I hope the fans don't boo the guy tonight because he really wasn't treated well by the Coach & he isn't someone (like others in recent past) who LOOKED for a trade. I hope that Philly gives him the minutes and respect he deserves.
We'll see what happens...
Oh well, looks like some of these 2's will be getting shipped out of here. I mean really what do we need Brew, CJ, Almond, and Korver for? We really only need 3 at most.
Fortunately they all have been playing well of late and could be some valuable trade bait.
Then again if Memo does not find his game none of this will matter. Right now we have the flopper Collins and a gimped up white guy, Memo, who can't throw it in the ocean. Memo needs to develop another dimension to his game. Without his 3 point shooting he is roster fodder.
This team has to find a way to make some 3's--we are among the lowest in the league at just over 3/game. Our Western Conference top competition make around 8-9/game.
One game isn't a very good judge, especially when both Brewer and Miles were struggling and Sloan was trying to see where Korver would fit the best, playing him at both the 2/3. I think that at first CJ, will take the biggest hit. Brewer will loose a couple of minutes, Korver will be the first 2 gaurd off the bench, and CJ will get the time that Giri used to get. Korver shouldn't have a hard time fitting into Sloan's system at all, once he learns the offense. Harpring isn't a good defender either, but Sloan loves his style of play. It seems like Korver is cut from the same mold; a work horse and always plays hard. Harpring is on the tail end of his career and is much slower than last year, so I think that by the end of this season, Harpring and CJ will get the biggest cut in playing time, with Korver splitting his time between the 2 and 3.
Korver is a much better 3-point shooter than Memo has been lately, so Sloan & LHM will realize that Memo's cold hand (of late) and bad defense won't be needed anymore.
At the shooting guard position, Miles will be pushed back to 3rd on the depth chart behind Korver & Brewer, and with Almond waiting with his potential and 3-point prowess, Miles will become upset with his lack of minutes and soon be in Jerry's doghouse. We need to trade Memo and CJ as soon as possible for a real center who can clog up the middle.
you have some great ideas, only problem is Sloan
will not see it that way.
with this trade we are headed to the finals again.
Yes O'connor, LHM, and Sloan made another great move.
Get rid of Harpring he is old and past his prime. CJ is the 2 guard of the future. Remember he never played college ball and he has come a long way from when he was drafted.
