The more the people.
The more the problems.

This is good advice. However, our state legislature is not good at advance planning. Their track record there is terrible. Often they are too busy with micro-managing our lives to do any meaningful long range planning which may benefit our future. Isn't it time we elect legislators who really care about education, growth, transportation, medical care for all, hazardous waste management, illegal immigration and reject secret agreements with power brokers, lobbyist's inducements, extreme left and right wing philosophies, big brother complexes and be responsive to the peeople who elected them? Oops, I just asked a silly question. We all know the answer to that question. Sad, isn't it?

I agree with almost all that you have to say. I do however think that the state shouldn't do much to deal with illegal immigration. What is should do is get together with other states and pressure the federal government to get to work on a plan and enforcement. It should pressure our representatives to work on the necessary bills to make that happen. We as voters should reinforce the ideas by removing those who haven't done anything (that would be all of them, wouldn't it?)
The state should concentrate on removing corruption and influence (no gifts) and then get to work on the advanced planning (and funding).

How on Earth would Utah be worse off if 250,000 people left? People left Lousianna because of a disaster. What would 250,000 less folks in Utah mean? Less Traffic? oh no. Less crowded schools? ditto. cleaner air, more water to go around, tighter job market ect, ect. What a disingenous opinion of by the snooze. Let me see if I can keep this straight. Smart planned growth, but the Deseret News believes in open borders, is pro illegal immigration and has no interest in doing anything other than encouraging more illegal immigration. The IQ of your readers continues to drop, as seemingly no one can see the irony of the editorial board's opinion.

Bottom Line:
No body wants to pay minimum wage in Utah. They whine and call that socialism. So presto! Cheap labor from Mexico. And lots of it.

What they call sprawl, most of us refer to as the American Dream: a nice single family home with a private yard large enough for the kids to play.

Ever notice how few of those advocating for high density housing actually live in it? How many members of the DesNews Editorial board live in high density housing, or make use of mass transit on any regular basis? They LOVE imposing their ideas on the little guy. But they will keep their large homes and private yards and reserved parking spaces, won't they?

High density living is NOT healthy. It results in higher crime rates among other problems.

Most of us can't live a rural lifestyle. But with so much land in Utah, there is no reason except a refusal to build adequate roads or a desire to control people, to push for high density housing. And certainly no reason to impose it into the middle of traditional, stand alone home neighborhoods.

Junk envision Utah. Buy the home and lot you like and leave others to do likewise.

America is the only place on earth where the person leaves the country, moves to the city so he can make enough money to move back to the country.
