Where did this BYU team come from? Who recruited the kids that are leaving?

The SEC Fan hit the nail on the head, and apparently Bronco understands the same. Years ago, BYU started to climb out of this WAC/MWC rating stuff by scheduling MORE games and better OOC games. Of course there have been blood baths along the way but there were also the steady climb into respectibility, exposure, wins and rankings.

Yes, raising the bar once again starts with winning at home, winning the conference, winning the bowl game. AND HAVING A REALISTIC APPRECIATION FOR THE TEAMS ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND RECOGNIZE THE AREAS THAT STILL NEED IMPROVEMENT.

I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO SEE THE FANS RAISE THE LEVEL OF COMPITITION ABOVE ...SIMPLY UTE CHATTER...

Call the game what you may ... an ugly second half, weak PAC 10 team, lucky ending...a win is a win and should place the cougars around 23/24 ranking next season. Take care of business during the preseason and win out in the MWC, the cougars WILL be in a BCS game. Boise State made it with a weak schedule in 06, Hawaii advances playing their high school opponents in '07. Unless the BCS is willing to give the MWC or WAC an automatic berth (how about the two league champions play for a BCS berth?) I would not blame any conference team in softening their schedules. It is all about money, and for a chance at the million dollar payout. Smart coaches and AD's will soften the schedules for at least a chance for an invite. The system is what it is (time for a playoff, which will never happen).
Dear Ute fans, | 3:22 p.m. Dec. 26, 2007
I love how you guys always go on and on and on about your 2004 season. It's funny because I never hear BYU fans unable to let go of their 1984 national championship team, yet for some reason you guys are stuck on your team of three years ago. Is that always going to be the crowning accomplishment of your football program? Is there no goal to make it to the top? I don't here the Utes aiming to make the BCS next year, so I guess you're happy with going to the Charmin Toilet Paper Bowl from here on out. Congratulations that your 2004 team played in a BCS game and beat the worst BCS school ever (Pittsburgh). Way to go!

If you don't hear "BYU fans unable to let go of their 1984 championship team" then you don't know the same BYU fans I know. The guys I work with and the guys in my neighborhood bring up their "national championship" everytime I talk about any Ute accomplishment.

BYU fans should be congratulating Utah for opening the door to all other MWC and WAC teams for BCS berths. You couldn't do it before, but Utah was good enough to do it. Given, Utah played a bad BCS team in Pitt, but they demolished them in amazing fashion.....unlike the Cougars win over a sub-par Pac 10 team.

Oh ya....and about the win over UCLA.....the Utes already did that too. Seems to me that BYU keeps setting goals that Utah has already accomplished. Keep dreaming Cougs!!

BYU slow start to the season has cost them quite a bit this year, if they start like that next year, you can say goodbye to their national rankings, not to mention BCS birth.
Its too early to start talking about BCS births. Im not too convinced after that UGLY bowl game they just played, theyve got a long way to go.
Go Cougars!

Shame on Deseret News online for perpetuating hatred beetween Utah and BYU fans. They are supposed to block offensive and off-topic comments, as I'm reading above the text box.

The article was about BYU's hopes for a bowl game next season and had nothing to do with the BYU-Utah rivalry.

By the way, Jeff Call was not speaking for all BYU fans when he said, "The rallying cry in Provo just might be 'Bowl Championship Series or Bust.'" There is a difference between an expectation, which is implied in this statement, and a goal, which was expressed by the players who were quoted.

But why are the monitors allowing posts by BYU haters (and other kinds of haters), especially when they contribute little or nothing of value to the discussion of the content of the article? To draw attention, amuse people, and embarass the more reasonable fans such as "Ute fan embarrassed"?

Reading comments on this and another article, on BYU's bowl win, have given me my reasons for my accusation, whether or not they choose to block this post.

I like contributing to these discussions, but I won't continue if they don't do something about the hate talk.

You want a fact try this one....one of the key reasons that the #5 BYU Cotton Bowl team didn't get the at large bid was the Fiesta Bowl's fear of having no-one in their drinking establishments......now there's a winner for not getting a Bowl bid.......which again along with the number one reason of having ("Long Time Ute Head Coach") Urban Meyer probably aided in Utah's 2004 selection with a #8 ranking........Like it or not Ute fans.....BYU set the stage for your Great 2004 Year.
I have no qualms about Utah going to the BCS.... I just want a level playing field and the door open for everbody.

Good post. I think the problem is the moderator here is a graduate of the U, not from BYU. That's the only reason I can think as to why all the BYU haters get through.

Utah's BCS ranking during the final 2 weeks of the regular season was #6, not #8. After the final BCS games were played, Utah finished #4 in the AP, and #5 in the Coaches poll. There is no final BCS ranking since the BCS poll is only used to determine who gets to play in the BCS bowl games.

It isn't 1984.
It isn't 2004.

It is 2007. Utah is unranked.
Get over it.

The non-conference schedule is definately winnable and so are the conference games. TCU's D looses its 2 best players, Who knows if Utah will get better or worse, and no other MWC team will really compete. AF looses QB and a slew of players but does have the MWC leading rusher back. It will be BYU at the top again with all the super sophs getting better. UCLA and Wash are winnable games. Lets remember that we lost to Tulsa on the road this year but I do beleive their offense is in the top 3 in almost every category. They are a good team. But BYU can winn all the games next year, especially if they open with a WAC or bowl subdivision team like they are hinting at. It will all depend on where they are ranked beginning next year. It will have to be in the top 20 to move up enough over the season to get into that coveted #12 spot. I think we can do it if our D steps up and our sophs develop some confidence.

LOL. So much for that BCS Bid. It was earned righteously by the UTES! You will be home in provo while we are out playing football with the best teams in the NCAA!
