Just Renting from the Government | 6:15 a.m. Dec. 20, 2007
Given this uninformed editorial, you would think the editorial board is recommending a state and federal property tax. Why? Because government can't run without the property tax. The state government seems to operate fine without a property tax (more than enough money to spend). Why can't our schools do the same? Isn't most of the school funding sent by formula from the state anyway? Property tax seems to be the biggest problem for the new west side Jordan school district.

Those that champion property tax believe that government owns all property and citizens are just renting it. Why can't I enjoy my home in my retirement without worrying about the government taking it away?

When times are bad people have less to spend, and learn to get by on less. Maybe government should learn to do the same.

The property tax is extortion by government, period! It is shameless thievery.
