It would be a really great story if the writer took the time to get the vernacular of Rodeo correct. One does not toss a lasso, they throw their rope, ect. Otherwise congratulations to all the Utah Cowboys and Cowgirls!

It is jargon not vernacular. The word etcetera is abbreviated to etc., not ect., as many who mysteriously mispronounce it "eksetera" are prone to do. Additionally, congratulations to all the Utah cowboys and cowgirls (not capitalized)!

You might want to stick with throwing your rope rather than becoming editor of a newspaper since not one of your sentences passes muster (or is that "pass the mustard"?).

Just funnin' ya.

You're right trzanne but let's not nit pick. This kid is just tickled that The Des News reported what an awesome bunch Utah sent to the NFR this year. Utah surpassed my state of Arizona this year. Also noteworthy is the fact that Jake Hannum dropped out of contention in calf roping with a fluke happening -- as he tossed slack back it wrapped his foot into stirrup while he was bailing off. Jake was hung upside down until his boot came off. He tied calf anyway but was a bit too long and took a "no time." Regardless of how you say it, "Utah was awesome at NFR."

agree. writer wisely quotes LEWIS FEILD - what he says is correct and he says it correctly! I looked for coverage of Utahns at NFR in Deseret News all during the NFR.....nothin'....drats......and so it's great to finally get this. Maybe BYU can find a little more good stuff in Vegas tomorrow - different field. Go cougs!

Great article! I hear there's a 17 year old down in Panquitch, name of Chris Roundy, who could follow in Blue Stone and Wesley Silcox's footsteps. As an unknown, he got into Cody Hancock's Invitational Bullriding and turned in whopping scores on two bulls to win against about 50 other bullriders including world champs and NFR veterans. There must be something in the water in Utah.

Anthony Bello, I hear, is not originally from Oakley. Where is he from and how did he wind up in Oakley?

Payson resident Wesley Silcox rides with just 0.6 seconds to go to win a World Championship at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. The 22-year-old rode his way to a $118,000 paycheck despite a September injury that sidelined him for a few months.
