I read this story thinking there must be more to it than the headline. Nope. Yawwwwwwwn. I was suckered. If you made it to this comment then you were too!

I certainly would not want someone writing a book about what they think they know about my life. I am sure this man means well but I really don't see how he could do this to someone he doesn't really know. If Marie wants to write a book let her decide to do I feel it is not his place or right to do so.

Should be a good read from an outside view. The Osmonds have done a lot of good for the church. they are human. folks like to read human stories i guess. it's a money maker for sure outside of utah among the same aged genre as the Osmonds.

Check out what this guy's using as his "publisher" -- a "self publishing" company, that accepts ANY book as long as you pay for it.

Let me get this straight. A biography about a person that you don't really know, without their support or input, but it will be accurate. According to who? Seems to me it should be called fiction....

I can't wait!.
mary | 11:37 a.m. Dec. 17, 2007
hmm! sounds interesting. i love juicy gossip & i think this book just might have some!
katamb | 11:45 a.m. Dec. 17, 2007
Sounds like the same waste-of-time dribble from any other gossip columnist - you write about something you know nothing about, using "reliable sources" who maybe had 5 minutes of contact with the subject. You know her because you're LDS? NOT! I'll pass on this one, thank you. Life is too short to waste time reading garbage.
No More Osmonds! | 12:07 p.m. Dec. 17, 2007
It was some 30 years ago when a major publisher printed the Marie Osmond Beauty Book. What a waste of printers ink then as it will be now. The only ones that will buy the book will be her family. One should wait to get it at the thrift store.
A Prediction | 2:13 p.m. Dec. 17, 2007
We'll never hear of this self-promoting self-publisher again.

Why? Because not that many people care!

My proof? The Marie Osmond book at the Ogden DI last month, priced at $2 and SIGNED BY MARIE. Just sitting there. People would pick it up, thumb through it, notice it was signed, and STILL put it down.

If something BY Marie isn't worth $2, how much is a gossip book worth? I guess members of "the Church" (which one?) will buy it?
ldr92 | 2:22 p.m. Dec. 17, 2007
With technology and travel being so convenient these days, the Osmond-fans hear anything and everything they want to hear directly from an Osmond. No one that I know would purchase a book made up from heresay. Mr. Jernigan would be better off writing a fiction novel and stop wasting his time on "unauthorized" garbage.

No more Osmonds please!!

I can't believe the harsh and mean-spirited sentiments coming from Desnews readers--I'm surprised Marie and her family want to even live in this state.

How sad.
Anonymous | 6:08 p.m. Dec. 17, 2007
I bet Marie doesn't spend all that much time in Utah.
USUMomma | 6:47 p.m. Dec. 17, 2007
Despite all the mean comments, there are a lot of us who would never have heard the gospel but for the Osmond Family. They are great people, leave them alone!! As for the Marie book, anyone can write what they want -no-one can force us to buy it-I know I won't.

"Let me get this straight. A biography about a person that you don't really know, without their support or input, but it will be accurate. According to who? Seems to me it should be called fiction...."

Most biographies are written by people who don't personally know their subject nor have their support. DUH.
JCS | 7:47 p.m. Dec. 17, 2007
This could end up being interesting. The autobiography Marie wrote is so full of negativity to herself and the world in general that it could be interesting to see an outsider take a (hopefully!) more objective viewpoint.
Linda | 8:08 p.m. Dec. 17, 2007
I fell for the "Marie Osmond Beauty Book" about 30 years ago too. What a joke. I trust even Marie wishes she could have that one as a do over.

Many biographies are written without permission, this is not a first. I will probably check this one out if it is available at the Library, but wouldn't spend $$ on it.

Marie's a babe. I've been in love for years. can't wait for the book.
Anonymous | 10:05 p.m. Dec. 17, 2007
Randy,
If you know nothing about this Beautiful woman, then you need to leave the book idea about her alone! She's a good person and if you are a true fellow Mormon, you'd leave this Crazy idea of yours in the trash. I think that you amongst alot of other Critics just want to "Ride On Marie's Coattails and the misery she is suffering through". Or Her Ex is paying you to write this TRASH! Why else would you not want her to help write the book? I can clearly see that you are a LOWLIFE who just wants to hurt Marie and make some money or maybe she "Turned You down" for a date several yaers ago and you never quite got over it? Get a Life and leave Marie alone!

Anonymous,
Before you write somthing so evil and mean-spirited why dont you get your facts straight. Mr. Jernigan knows Ms. Osmond quite well. They have worked side by side together for many years on various projects and enjoy a friendship between one another. From what I gather after interviewing Mr. Jernigan he wants the project to be his--I can understand that as an author myself. And he has no plan on doing a hatchet job on Ms. Osmond--why dont you hold off on calling people names until you gather all the facts.
Shame on you.
desertrose | 10:36 p.m. Dec. 17, 2007
I've known Randy for a few years now--I know his work. He's very fair and I'm sure will do a good job on the Marie Osmond book.
Lynn | 9:38 p.m. Dec. 20, 2007
I look forward on reading his book. I felt that Marie's book was sugar coated and was not real honest with other issues besides Post-partum, All of women go thru it and handle it with grace.

I feel Mr. Jernigan will write a written book and be honest.

After hearing some of Maries television interviews, she tends to embellish many things. It's interesting how many times she says "my children need me" from studio's in LA or New York and her children are in Utah.
Anonymous | 10:37 p.m. Feb. 27, 2008
I am excited to read this book. I don't feel this book will be just gossip and rumors. If the Osmond family means as much to him as he says they do then he will do his best to make sure he has the facts about her life. I think it will be great to read because Marie does tend to sugar coat somethings she talks about and never really goes into depth about her personal life other than to talk about her children. Even in her own book (which I like) she mentions things about herself and basically does nothing but come off as sounding negative and self-depreciating. Marie is one of the few celebrities that completely fascinate me. She is a gorgeous, multi-talented woman who has an image of being perky, perfect, and happy but there is something about her that always makes you think she is miserable on the inside and you never know why.
Sue | 1:56 a.m. April 5, 2008
Randy, if you are a Mormon, then I am the President of the U.S.. Get my drift Bud? You really ought to be ashamed of yourself. The Woman did nothing to you to warrant this attack, and that's what this is, an attack/smear campiagn. How do you live with yourself? Can you say LAWYER? Cuz you are gonna need one after Marie lights into you for this untruthful book of yours.
Maya | 2:26 a.m. Aug. 22, 2008
Has this book come out yet?

Personally, I would never write something about someone without at least interviewing them for a few hours. Seems odd. It's not like you need to get them to approve what you're doing, but at least talk to them, especially if there's an accusation that they made something up (like he says). She gets no opportunity to refute or answer? Not fair. Who are these "Osmond family" members interviewed?

Oh well. Maybe the book died a good death.
Sue | 9:22 p.m. Sept. 7, 2008
Well, well, well. It seems that trash book you tried to write about Marie Osmond will never see the light of day, will it Randy? You got shut down like a bad dream, didn't ya? Dude, I told you that Marie was going to light into your ass, and I was right, Huh? Did you really believe you were going to write filth and lies about this woman and that she was going to sit back and do nothing about it? How did it feel when her lawyer called you on the phone? Man, not only are you fat, bald and ugly, but you're awfully stupid too!
Suspicious | 7:39 a.m. Dec. 16, 2008
Well Randy,
I guessed right that there will be realased a clean book. Not cleaned by the Osmond clan, but the LDS-church. They would never let anyone harm the public picture of the chuch that Marie has worked for all her life. Marie's own book omitted the life in the chuch totally. She was just discussing about how busy she was with her work at the studio. Why don't you write a book about what really is taking place in church today. But Marie is in Las Vegas, the holy city, that Jesus would like spend time-right?
Jackie | 11:26 p.m. May 9, 2009
After reading on the web that Randy Jernigan wrote the article in the Globe Tabloid that said Marie didn't get along with her lesbian daughter, I searched his name and found this. Interesting. So, he seems to have completely made up the story about Marie's relationship with her daughter. I assume this book didn't come out? Were there too many factual questions about his material?? Hope so. What sort of person writes what he did about Marie and her daughter?
briteditor | 8:33 p.m. June 2, 2009
After reading the comments on this article I felt I had to respond. Most of you have it all wrong. I have read the manuscrip that Mr. Jernigan wrote and came away feeling uplifted and appreciative about the life and career of Ms. Osmond. It is a wonderful read and contains nothing negative within its pages as the tabloids suggest. The only reason for the delay in publishing is because Mr. Jernigan was given some false information and felt it best to make corrections.
Some have suggested that marie's lawyers have stopped the book--this is not true. Marie herself would have participated in the writing of the book if it were not for Mr. Jernigan's insistance on doing the project on his own. The book is still going to be published.
And as for Jessica--it was she that came forward and wanted to tell her story. Randy was just the reporter.
Get your facts straight before you make such nasty comments.
To Briteditor | 1:38 a.m. June 5, 2009
Much of your comment is erroneous. I was working at a newspaper when Mr. Jernigan announced his book. I'm a Marie fan so took an interest. You say "the tabloids" suggested his book had negativity. Actually, it was Mr. Jernigan who did so in his own press release.
Jernigan's release (which is still found on the web if you google Randy Jernigan Marie Osmond) makes some extremely negative claims. Most of all, Jernigan says that Marie fabricated sexual abuse to sell her book. "She made it up," he says in the release. He also claimed she was mentally ill as a child, as well as some other quite personal things about her relationships.
Regarding Jessica, I saw the Globe article which did NOT quote Jessica. Marie refuted the entire thing very convincingly. If Jessica wanted to get her story out (as you said), do you actually think she'd go to The Globe?
Oh and Ill say that if I was going to make claims like those above, Id give the subject the opportunity to comment. Jernigan didnt, apparently, and as a result, he seems to have gotten a whole lot wrong.

To Briteditor 2 | 1:22 p.m. June 5, 2009
One final point. It would be nice to read a well researched, fair book about Marie. BUT, Mr. Jernigan didn't go that route. I was prompted to write this comment when I checked The Globe story on the web to make sure I was correct that Jessica wasn't quoted. I was correct (everything was "anonymous")
I can't believe it, but I found another Globe article by Randy Jernigan. He wrote that Donny & Marie were fighting ("at each others throats"), that Marie is "an intolerable diva," has a huge ego, and producers may close their Vegas show. That turned out to be blatantly untrue. Shortly after, producers EXTENDED their show.
Given that and the story about Jessica, I don't believe this book is the kind I'd like to read. Mr. Jernigan seems most interested in attacking Marie. Maybe he thought this would make him successful, and maybe it would have with other celebrities. But, very few folks want to read bad things about Marie, especially if their truth is questionable.
No thank you to this | 10:30 p.m. June 5, 2009
you're right about the author. I have worked with Children's Miracle Network and he attacked Marie about her work with this charity (she's the co-founder!) Said she was in it for the money and that she used charity money to buy all her clothes and travel and stuff. he put it in a public comment to an article on CMN in this paper. I remember it, because we were all shocked, with everything Marie's done for CMN and how much she donates herself. Bad news.
Chris | 11:45 p.m. June 7, 2009
How do you know that Randy Jernigan really submitted that comment you mentioned about CMN? You can use any name on this site to comment. As proof - my name's not Chris. ;0)
ferriswheel | 3:42 p.m. June 14, 2009
WOW!!! My friend told me to read the comments on this page and I'm laughing my gutts out right now. I'm one of the few people that have actually read the manuscript "Marie Osmond: An Unauthorized Biography." Where is all this negativity coming from. There was not one jot or tittle that was off-handed or negative. In fact I was very impressed with the woman after reading where I wasn't before. I have to wonder about the mentality of all the rabid Marie Osmond fans out there--are we safe?
Queenofhearts | 4:09 p.m. June 14, 2009
I was recently at an LDS Church event where both Jernigan and Marie Osmond participated--she seemed very cordial toward the man--in fact they seemed to be friends. Maybe all these "rabid" Marie Osmond fans need to stop passing judgement and get a life.
Anonymous | 4:27 p.m. June 14, 2009
Was the story I heard about Marie being involved in a traffic accident drunk in Utah true? My source told me it was covered up.
Gracie | 7:45 p.m. June 24, 2009
I would love to read this book. I have only met Marie Osmond once and she was just cordial but she was not warm and friendly like most folks have said in the past. I have talked with all the brothers several times and they are very nice, warm and friendly. Wayne made a weird comment to me that left me with the impression that no everything was goody, goody. He told me, "she only represent herself, she can says whatever she wants." Then he walked off. Strange..........?

Randy Jernigan's unauthorized biography of Marie Osmond will be published in July. He says he has "a lot of respect for her and her family."
