BYU library puts missionary diaries online

What a wonderfull blessing technology can be, to be able to literally see first hand the struggles & triumphs of the first missionaries of this dispinsation!

I'd love to read some of those. Maybe I'll find my great great grandfather's journal on there. He was George Rowley, who led the 8th Handcart company to Utah, but also went on the company that left from Utah. So much good has come from the internet - I love it.

Being one of the many decendants of Hyrum Smith through his wife Jerusha Barden I am so grateful for this opportunity. Hyrum's granddaughter Jerusha is buried in Afton wyoming. All my life I heard of how this Jerusha played with Uncle Joseph and Emma's children and how she loved these great people. Because of of this dear ladies words I have truely learned to love her grandfather and my 7 times great grandfather Hyrum Smith. I am grateful to read his words.

i am thankful to our heavenly father and to all who made it possible for us(Africans),who don't have the privilege to attend the museum,now can have access to the (diaries) online.from GHANA-KUMASI STAKE-DICHEMSO WARD.

It is very interesting to view other journals from the time period that my grandfather, Peter J Williams served his mission to the Northern States Mission in the late 1890's. Having the ability to view, on line the journals has allowed me to share with my children the importance of record keeping and Family History. Another grandfather was born and raised in New Zealand, at age 18 he came to the United States with missionaries returning home from their missions in the early 1900's. It is very interesting to see a young American's view of New Zealand to compare with my grandfather's view.
