OK Sugarhouse residents, if City Council will not recognize the sale of the sex toys as making it a sexual-oriented business, then choose citizen action. The dollar works better than the pen. Vote with your dollars (i.e. spend them somewhere else). Public awareness works better than government councils. Get permits to picket the establishment. Hold signs that indicate you are filming all entering the shop and putting it on the internet. If stores get no customers, stores go out of business. Don't do anything stupid like forming human chains or going in to the establishment or threatening potential customers. Just picket, share your opinions (without anger or shouting), ask the customers if they would be embarrassed for the world to know they shop there. If someone goes in, they go in. Never try to block someone from free use of the public space in front of the store. Good Luck.

If the people of the area didn't truly want something like this, the store would go out of business. However, from my understanding, the business has actually thrived. What the residents are saying and what is being made apparent in terms of business fundamentally contradicts each other.

I love the Blue Boutique. It is a fine FAMILY shopping place. As stated by the buyer for the store you can purchase gifts for all family members at this store. I have taken my daughter to this store many times and have not had any problems or worries because of this. I plan on increasing my support of this wonderful LOCAL company because of this reaction that they are dealing with.

Offended By Underpants | 10:20 a.m. Dec. 5, 2007
People are not really offended by underpants, are they? Are these people really offended by underpants, or are they just putting on a show to prove how self-righteous they are?

WAIT!!!!! | 11:10 a.m. Dec. 5, 2007
In the story it reported that one of those in attendance brought two sex toys to the meeting and placed them on the dias in what I would assume would be public view. Then in the accompanying photo we see two very young children, well under the age of the average student at the nearby High School, who were at the meeting. Wouldn't this be doing just what you are complaining about? Introducing or exposing children to sexually oriented situations??? Am I the only one who sees the hypocricy??

No Big Problem for us | 2:17 p.m. Dec. 5, 2007
Why such a hassle now? The Blue Boutique has been in Sugar House for ever. If it bothers homeowners so much, why did they buy there in the first place?
It would seem to me, that the complainers should have been more careful were they bought rather than trying to force a business to move on. I lived in the area for about 15 years with Blue Boutique a few blocks away, and never had any problems even though we had four teenagers at one time living home.

Blame Sorn Simonsen for this. He loves these guys and wants them in your neighborhood. When up for election remember S.S.= Sex Shop = Sorn Simonsen

There are so many other real issues to get worked up about and a good healthy sex life is not one of them. The Blue Boutique fills an important niche in our community and has done so for over 20 years. What you should be doing is teaching your children that sex is a natural and beautiful fact of life and that it's different for every person. A store that sells underwear and "adult" toys is not the problem. The problem is the lack of open and honest dialog about sex between parents and children.

at least they don't have life size photos of nearly nude women hanging in the front shop windows like Victoria Secret does in the malls. My young son was offended by the photos in the mall, but had no idea what the big deal was over the Blue Boutique. He has seen their billboards. He "knows" they sell underware.

*sigh*
it's really sad that people have nothing better to do than throw a hissy-fit over a store.
guess what?
the naughty section of blue boutique can't be entered unless you are 18 or older. it is completly hidden out of view from any under 18 shoppers that may enter. and the rest of the shop? clothing. panties. shoes. jewelry. makeup. the same kind of things you would find in a victoria's secret.
if you're not into sex toys, don't go into sex shops. it's that simple.
don't try to run them out of business because you let your religion brainwash you into thinking that sex and sexually oriented stores are evil.
some of us real people over here aren't blindfolded. as much as i love utah, the mormons seriously ruin it all for everyone.

I've been in blue boutique three or four times and had no problem the store sells many things other then "adult" products and with where the new sugarhouse store is you would have to purposely walk you kids in front of the store for them even to notice. the other problem with the way people are fighting it is how prudeish the american civilization is.

Are people in Utah that afraid of their sexuality?

Are they that repressed and fearful of sex?

That's hilarious.

No. Utah sees a major earthquake every 350 years. Last one? 350 years ago.
