Mystery solved. As busy as Glenn Beck is, no wonder when he pontificates on all public policy issues A to Z that he is full of opinion but short on facts. The times I have tried to watch his TV show his factual errors were appalling. Perhaps he should just stick to comedy and make believe.
Now I see | 12:16 a.m. Dec. 2, 2007
When I read Beck's words comparing George W. Bush to Abraham Lincoln, I knew all I needed to know about this guy.

Neither of you see anything that you do not wish to see...

Genn is a son of God who is fully aware of his imperfections...

And yet he is successful, maybe it is becose many of us actually listen to more then just a show... and becouse many of us are not envious of him enough to want to tare him down...

I am envious of him, but I am Glad to know he exists and that he is doing well, becouse that give me hope... for all of the rest of us.

If you had listened to Glenn consistently you would know that he is fair towards people on both sides of the isle. He is the needed voice of moderation that says. Who cares about the political parties, look at what we need to do to improve the world. It is very sad that you would attack the voice of moderation because you heard of a positive comment about somebody you don't like.

Flummoxed,

I agree that he is short on facts sometimes.

However, he consistently opens the floor to experts in the particular field that he is addressing, after he sets forth is opinion on the subject. And they either contradict him or confirm what he says. So though he may have his facts wrong, he gives another individual a chance to contradict him. And often, they agree with what he says.

It is very nice to see a TV personality share his personal life with the public. Stay in there Glen we need your realness.

Glen Beck is a gifted speaker and isn't afraid to meet opposition. I enjoy his show. There will always be those who criticize because they have nothing better to do.

Beck does much good in the world and is someone to be admired.
sam | 5:33 a.m. Dec. 2, 2007
He is still learning. What we all need to do.

Did God, working through Pat Gray, change Glenn Beck? Or did Pat Gray, working through God, change him? A prime example of the power of prayer.

Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck ...
some people have the oddest heroes today.
Mark B | 7:21 a.m. Dec. 2, 2007
Beck could have a lot of free time if he'd just shut his mouth. And the country would be a better place if he would do that.
RI Reader | 7:30 a.m. Dec. 2, 2007
I know he is a child of God and all that ...

But he has also discovered what Rush, O'Reilly and the rest of the "talking heads" have discovered: loud, opinionated, mean-spirited, and contrversial ramblings lead to wealth and fame. You don't have to be right - in fact, a good lie will really get the ol' ball rolling and people calling in -you just have to be loud, opinionated and clever.

It is stand-up comedy - not serious or meaningful dialog. Serious and meaningful are death to this crowd. Loud and angry makes more money and gets more listeners.

I turned him off a long time ago.

Glenn Beck is a hero to anyone who is overcoming or has overcome serious problems in their life.
Sheila Larsen | 7:40 a.m. Dec. 2, 2007
Glen has overcome so many difficult things, and I admire him very much. He is entertaining and sincere. He is a voice for good.
Fascinated & Confused | 8:03 a.m. Dec. 2, 2007
Interesting interview; thank you. I appreciate Becks attempt at honesty, and his struggle with himself and the world around us. His voice is one we need, among others.

Like "Now I see" I was stunned by Becks comment about George Bush being somewhat like Lincoln. Yet I recall a comment by a good friend (a Democratic strategist from Arizona who is not unfamiliar with Washington DC events) who sat with George Bush in his box during a Texas Rangers game 8-9 years ago. He told me then that one-on-one, Bush was one of the most intelligent and fascinating people he had met. Although I doubt I would ever vote for Bush again, he may not be the total dufus he appears to be. Does Glen Beck have all the answers--No. Is he always right--No. Who is? But I appreciate his approach, and that unlike all the other prominent conservative voices, he is not an apologist for the Republican Party.
Gretzky | 8:18 a.m. Dec. 2, 2007
Glen Beck makes you think. he's a talk show host for crying out loud. he calls it like he sees it. and perception is 99% of the law unfortunately. that's why the white house called him in to set some facts straight b/c they knew Glen would stir up the pot. Go Glen, Go Cougars!!!
Moderation? | 8:27 a.m. Dec. 2, 2007
Are you kidding me? This man's show is constantly short on facts and is nowhere near moderation. You people drink the kool aid too easily. Next you'll tell me that Bush is a uniter, not a divider. I guess if somebody repeats something enough times, you just start believing it.

Beck's show is always short on facts but heavy on bluster and hostility.

And, no Emmett, just because I'm critical of somebody doesn't mean I secretly envy him. I do not. Just so you know, "becose" is spelled "because."
anonymous | 8:38 a.m. Dec. 2, 2007
Here's a guy doing the best he can, as we all should be, and there are those who can't wait to shoot him down. Think about it.
Anonymous | 8:50 a.m. Dec. 2, 2007
I heard this guy once. He was giddy as a schoolgirl at the thought of delivering some book to universities, probably a book he has written, and how insulted they will be because said book opposed their liberal 'indoctrination'.
This is just one more of the AM radio fearmongers, building an industry of demonising those with whom he disagrees, and making enemies of them. Our society is polarised like never before, and these guys are the wedge. You can never go broke appealing to fear, or by insulting people, that's for sure.
Bob | 9:09 a.m. Dec. 2, 2007
I feel that Glen Beck is a part of the Conservative Republican hate machine that is destroying America. His most popular theme is hate for Liberals and Democrats and he follows in lock step with the other voices of conservative such as Hannity and Limbaugh. I have tried to listen to him and read his material but when I do I become so filled with disgust and hate that I must lay it aside. He is surely a god for his conservative friends but he is an enemy toward most Americans.
Beck Listener | 9:13 a.m. Dec. 2, 2007
Facts wrong? I must have my facts wrong also. I've listened to Glenn for over a year and have yet to see a blatant misstatement.

Opinion, of course, is not fact but not necessarily wrong. Questioning something that has long been held as fact is not being "factless."

I admire a man who recovers from what was obviously a private hell to try and do some good in the world. We need more Glenn Becks.

And anyone Keith Olbermann takes such steps to denigrate continually has to be a good man.

Glenn Beck you are AMAZING | 9:16 a.m. Dec. 2, 2007
Here, here. Hear too! Mr. Beck, does his research and puts the word out there of what is happening in the world. He is not into sensationalism like some of those other programs that thrive on others' misfortunes. He has the savvy that got him where he is. His insight and maybe his staff too, stay on top of what's important and not on the mainstream news. I know for a fact he helped make clear for the Boarder issues and our National safety. I watched it daily during time time US Congress/ Senate was debating the Immigration issue. HE showed how the laws we already have on the books (since PResident Reagan) were not working or used so why put another out there without merit? I knew he was right. It motivated ME to write to my Senator and voiced my concerns. Well it worked and that bill did not pass, luckily. So wake up people, stay informed, read and listen, watch and decide for your self. I like the background work he does on HILLARY and all reports of the deception besides his common sense.
Go Glenn, on CNN!!
Michael R. Loveridge, J.D. | 9:20 a.m. Dec. 2, 2007
Whether or not Glenn's facts are always correct or whether or not one agrees with his opinions, I admire the MAN. When the above, negative, "naysayers" have passed through the same or similar trials that Glenn has, and made the same progress he has in overcoming them, then, and only then, will I give credence to their assessment of him.
Excellent Article!!! | 9:24 a.m. Dec. 2, 2007
Just want to let you know Doug Robinson, you did an excellent job in writing this article. It was very informative and sounded like you did your homework in portraying Mr Beck and did not sugar-coat any of the facts that Glenn tells about himself. Thank you for a great contribution to the Deseret News. Yes, I agree with dldustin's comments that
"If you had listened to Glenn consistently you would know that he is fair towards people on both sides of the isle. He is the needed voice of moderation that says. Who cares about the political parties, look at what we need to do to improve the world. It is very sad that you would attack the voice of moderation because you heard of a positive comment about somebody you don't like."
Great conversion story covered. Thanks again...
Short on facts? | 9:29 a.m. Dec. 2, 2007
Of course he's short on facts...just like all of talk radio. That's the name of the talk-radio game; be as superficial about as many topics as possible. That's why it worries me how many people base their own political views on what they hear on the radio (or from hollywood, for that matter).

I really enjoyed this article, and found it inspirational. Its nice to read about someone who's trying to be better, even if he often feels unsuccessful at it.
Glenn Beck Is The One | 9:43 a.m. Dec. 2, 2007
Gleen Beck, Mike Savage, and Pat Buchannan...clearly articulate the courage required to speak on matters of truth, not what is "politically correct."

Opinion | 9:53 a.m. Dec. 2, 2007
Glen Beck. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.

This bickering in this country has to stop or it will destroy us all.. Enough is enough.. There is enough arrogance on both on the left and right to do so..
BUSH | 10:32 a.m. Dec. 2, 2007
Glenn Beck is the man. and BOB a few comments ago, you get filled with hate by listening to his words. wow just like all the dems when they hear something sensible.
Anonymous | 10:43 a.m. Dec. 2, 2007
If Beck is short on facts how do you classify the mainstream media, PBS, CNN, NBC, no of course, they are the all knowing truth. America wake UP!
Dean Bailey | 10:48 a.m. Dec. 2, 2007
I heard him do a book review of the "Lone Survivor". I appreaciated the way he treated the author. Not like any other hack on radio or TV. It was amazing. I bought the book and read it in one day. Great Book.
matalino | 11:19 a.m. Dec. 2, 2007
I love how we all argue over who has their facts correct and who doesn't. Someone HAS to be wrong (left, right, whoever). There is only one truth. Even if someone is correct 100% of the time you would still find people who say that their wrong. We need to focus more on what unites us than what divides us or this will be the end of all of us.
me | 11:19 a.m. Dec. 2, 2007
It does not matter that Glenn is short on the fact. His show is entertainment and it's purpose is to make money by getting higher ratings. He is a business man and entertainer who makes money by giving his opinions and being controversial. There's nothing wrong with that.
Rachel | 11:43 a.m. Dec. 2, 2007
I really enjoyed reading this article. Thank you. I also agree with the comments about Glenn just trying to the best he can, and is working to be a better person. That's what it's all about.
i relate | 12:03 p.m. Dec. 2, 2007
I hope Mr. Beck keeps moving forward. I can relate to his challenges, and anyone who is trying to do a little better is worth admiration. I think many can relate to a person who has struggled and is trying to do a little better each day. Thanks Glenn!
Bob from Virginia | 12:08 p.m. Dec. 2, 2007
Glen Beck short of facts? Not usually. As has been stated, he gives his opinions freely. If you want a lack of facts, and outright lies, look at Al Gore and the whole global warming scam. Now that is a lack of facts!
Cody B | 12:30 p.m. Dec. 2, 2007
Glen Beck is okay sometimes, but he is a Neo-Con. A Wolf in sheep's clothing. He attacks Ron Paul supporters, even calls us a domestic threat / terrorists. Unbelievable he would attack people trying to stand up for this country and its constitution. Beck, Hannity, Limbaugh are all shills and terrible at reporting the truth, when it matters most.
Radio | 12:39 p.m. Dec. 2, 2007
Great story.

Glen Beck is part of Conservative hate machine? Only liberrals call opposing views hate.
Used to like him... | 12:53 p.m. Dec. 2, 2007
..I always thought he was fair, and I like that he admitted when he was wrong. He gave a great opinion about how people shouldn't call others "anti-American" or "America haters" because of their opinion or because they're liberal. I thought that was great..
Then about 2 weeks later he went off about the "America-hater" Rosie O'Donnell. I stayed tuned to see if he was joking, but no, he wasn't. I mean, she is annoying and obnoxious and all, but doesn't saying that make him a blantant hypocrite? A blatant hypocrite who KNOWS he's a hypocrite? That completely turned me off and I haven't watched him since
David in Iowa | 1:18 p.m. Dec. 2, 2007
I recently went on a trip back east to see church sites, and a friend of the family is in the same ward as Glenn Beck. I watched Glenn Beck prepare and bless the sacrement. The group of 3 families that I was with went up and introduced ourselves after the meeting. He has very polite and nice to give us the time. After he left the room he came back about 20 seconds later and asked us if he could show us where sunday school met since we were visitors. He was very consierate and nice. That is all I know personally of him is what I saw when I met him....and that is how I will judge what kind of person he is.
1776 | 1:53 p.m. Dec. 2, 2007
I've found the crowd who hates conservative talk radio to be as flawed in the choices of fact they choose to accept as those they criticize. At least talk show hosts, like Glenn Beck, are open about their bias as commentators.
I've watched the nightly news and read the weekly news magazine periodicals since elementary school, and it's a breath of fresh air to find voices in the media that don't paint the US as a culprit. The snarling, tendentious lectures weaved into the tripe coming out of Hollywood is as invasive as a grating solicitation calls during dinner that have become exceedingly tiresome. The mainstream news media, so called, is overburdened with left leaning sophists who buttonhole people through the editing process and simply by choosing which stories merit air time and which don't. Beck openly tells you his purpose.
It seems liberal people so used to a comfort zone on television and film, where they find safe harbor for their opinions, don't like the notion of anyone challenging their beliefs. You don't have to agree with all of Beck's opinions, but like it or not, they're valid view points.
Vic | 1:58 p.m. Dec. 2, 2007
Glenn Beck is pretty much himself and not a phony person full of himself. And, I like him for that very reason. We need more honest people like him out there who can say it how it is. He makes a great Mormon!
Seattle | 2:00 p.m. Dec. 2, 2007
To "Used to Like him": You stopped listening to him because you believe he is a hypocrite. He'd be the first to admit as much if you called him on it. But if you do ever run into anyone who talks three hours a day every day and does not make any hypocritical statements, you let me know.
Spot on 1776 | 2:45 p.m. Dec. 2, 2007
Very well said 1776. You hit the nail on the head. I am glad I waded through all the tripe.
Finding Hope | 3:09 p.m. Dec. 2, 2007
I thoroughly enjoyed this article! Thank you! It's something we all need to do. I think it's very important to pray sincerely and to always improve ourselves and learn to serve other people. When we serve, we lose ourselves, and in doing so, we find ourselves (our true selves)

Who isn't trying to find who they are and why they're here and what brings true happiness? If we all did this searching, homework and turning to God, we'd all become better, happier people and there would be less bickering and contention. God is there for all of us, but we have to turn to him and our trials will make us stronger.

I think it's great that he shares his story too, it may find (even if it's just) one person who can learn from Beck and who may turn his life around because of Beck's example.

These bashing comments and complaintative remarks on varies topics in the world don't help anyone and keep us all divided. We need less pessimism, criticism, and complaining in the world. We need more optimism, encouraging, being grateful, and acting on what's right.
Joe | 3:13 p.m. Dec. 2, 2007
Hey I think that he is a nice guy, that is just trying to do the right thing. GO GLENN!! GLENN BECK FOR PRESIDENT!!!

yesiree bob! can't stand the liberal media and anyone who criticizes Beck has taken the liberal media machine's line on conservatives. wisen up!
ElRay | 3:36 p.m. Dec. 2, 2007
Wow ... what a nice piece of journalism. I am so tired of reading and hearing about all the garbage going on in the world. This article was refreashing and uplifting. I was not real close to Glenn Beck in the past but after learning more about him, I will tune in more often. Good going Glenn. Just stick to your principles. You have renewed my faith in mankind. Maybe there still is hope.
Bart | 3:50 p.m. Dec. 2, 2007
Glen was entertaining for a while, but he is so short on substance and long on pontification that he never enters our living room any more.
Judi | 4:20 p.m. Dec. 2, 2007
The article was excellent. I listen to Glenn whenever I can. I think he is a great example of someone who has overcome many struggles and has found what is really important to him in life. Good luck Glenn. Keep up the great work.
