I agree 100% with the comments of CougarBlue. There are only so many scholarship available and there may have been one for this player but in the recruiting wars of college football you need to go after several "potential" superstars for each position.
BYU wanted this player but understood his desire to play where his brother may very well be one of the leaders by his senior year.
My brother played at Mississippi and I was recruited by more than one school in the South but made my decision to go where I had family. Don't blame this young man at all. Wish him well on his mission and wish him well against every one but BYU.

Actually, you're wrong Colonel Sanders. Joe Kruger played on the line with him this year as a freshman at Timpanogos. They also have a younger brother in jr. high. So glad you know it all. I am a Coug fan, but also know David, good kid, and will be successful up north. Congrats

To bitter coug fans, before you burn the kid, walk in his shoes. It's fans like you that make kids go up north or elsewhere. Stop being eliteist. I love my Cougs, and hate the Utes, but I know when to not make it personal. Take an example from the scriptures you "read" and learn that if someone makes a comment or has opinion you disagree with, turn the other cheek.

Mike, you're kidding, right? From the perspective of having attended a state school (outside of Utah) and BYU, the state school was much more biased, angry, and intolerant of the values I believe in than BYU was in the reverse. You'd have to experience it that way to know what I mean. Free thinking often only means rejecting traditional, religious, moral, values and thought. If it was really free thinking, those things would be considered as well.

no holy war | 7:51 p.m. Nov. 26, 2007
Whoever decided to call this BYU v. Utah a "holy war" is up in the night. Please, SOMEONE think of a new name for this great rivalry.

My vote: Beehive Battle
Louise | 7:58 p.m. Nov. 26, 2007
Sports a "holy war"? Can anything be more inane? God does not ordain one sports team over another. Rivals, are just that rivals, there is nothing holy about it. Your eternal salvation or damnation does not depend on your allegiance to BYU or UOU or any other school. The banality of suggesting a holy war over athletics is truly pathetic.

Krueger is probably the best senior lineman in the state this year.....good grab for Utah....but if krueger were really smart ...he would go where there isn't a comcast contract that will give him poor NFL Prospect Coverage.....This contract has already hurt BYU and UTAH, I know one top recruit who didn't come to Uath because of their MWC TV Contract....and I am sure there will be more!
Sacramento Coog | 10:07 p.m. Nov. 26, 2007
Good luck to Krueger..sounds like a good kid. It's just football and BYU doesn't need to get every great athlete.

By the way, the "Holy War" junk would stop if the inane sports reporters and broadcasters would just put it away and leave it alone. Some pathetic ink stained wretch came up with it and every other pathetic ink stained wretch perpetuated it.

It's a great rivalry...it certainly doesn't need a nickname.

Go Coogs! Whip San Diego State and then pray for a BCS miracle.

Oops...sorry Ute fans...didn't mean to bring religion back into the discussion. I know how uncomfortable that makes you all feel.

Good for him. I've been to both schools and had a much better academic, social, and spiritual experience at the U of U.
Biggest Timpanogos catch | 10:21 p.m. Nov. 26, 2007
If the Utes really wanted Timpanogos' best player, Taylor Lyons is the fastest and most exciting player in the state. He runs a 4.3 40 yard dash.

Come on, I can't believe his brother convinced him to go to Utah. If he really loved his brother, he would have convinced him to attend BYU. Brother is bitter about not getting into BYU.

Check your facts before spouting. Where the heck did you think Marquis Wilson came from.

BTW.. Timp High is in Provo not Orem. Provo has 2 high schools - Provo High and Timp High. Orem has 2 as well - Orem High and Mountain View High. GO COUGS
Utah County Ute | 10:09 a.m. Nov. 27, 2007
This is Timpanogos High (not Timp View), and it IS in Orem. It's been here for 10 years.

Way to go Kruger! Can't wait to see you get to work for the Utes.

Star? | 10:17 a.m. Nov. 27, 2007
Star, you don't live around here, do ya? Timpanogos is in north Orem. Yes TimpVIEW is in Provo. Timpanogos High is Orem's 3rd high school, and the only Orem school in 5A. They almost beat Alta in the playoffs. Wow!
yahoo | 12:38 p.m. Nov. 27, 2007
Gee I'm glad Kruger choose Utah it's the best college here in Utah..... And besides may I remind u byu crowd that just recently have u started winning Utah in football and thanks for the refs for making calls that helped u win... Thats the only way u would win...
ok | 2:51 p.m. Nov. 27, 2007
Every kid should go where they want and are comfortable. That being said please learn the difference between the word winning and beating. BYU did not win Utah in football - they beat them.

where is roger reid when you need him to admonish him for being lds and not going to byu. austin collie would agree as well
is this topic worth the time ? | 6:38 p.m. Nov. 27, 2007
Having attended both BYU and Utah, I found too much anti-Mormon bigotry and political correctness (enforced in grading) at the U. There wasn't much academic freedom there.

That said, who really cares where this young man goes to school? By himself, is he going to turn the rivalry around? I loved both universities in different ways. I wouldn't trade my experiences at either university. I put both diplomas on my wall.

Stop taking his choice personally, as if this kid punched your wife and ran over your dog.
Porter Rockwell | 6:51 p.m. Nov. 27, 2007
Having big brother on the same team appears to have sealed the deal. On the other hand, this young man will be missing out on the BYU experience. Best of luck on his collegiate football career.
Russell | 8:07 p.m. Nov. 27, 2007
Congrats on choosing Utah. As a die-hard BYU fan the rivalry wouldn't be great if Utah was terrible. I wish them well recruiting. Despite bleeding blue, i probably would play for the U if my older brother did. I hope they play well in thier bowl game as well. Oh, and Timpview has a Provo address. That's kind of weird for a school in Orem don't you think?

He'll be a great missionary!
Oh, Russell | 10:27 p.m. Nov. 27, 2007
Apparently you don't read either. The article said TIMPANOGOS high, not Timpview. Not every college bound athlete comes out of Timpview U. Timpanogos is in Orem, read the whole thing.
what is back! | 1:00 a.m. Nov. 28, 2007
I'm talking this year as I watched both 2A and 5A play in Salt Lake at that big catholic school wilson went to..expected to see more and boy would I have dominated since I already signed and noticed no one from 2A. That's what I call being real so you sprout all you want!
Timpangos fan | 11:52 a.m. Nov. 28, 2007
Let him go to Utah. I am glad he isn't going to BYU. I have watched every Timpanogos game this year and David Kruger is the most overated player on that team. He arm tackles, won't play assignment football and all he cares about is his own stats. The biggest reason that Timpanogos defense struggled early in the year is because of players like David Kruger who did what they wanted instead of what was best for the team. He is so lazy he would have never made it with Bronco. Let him go to Utah and be lazy there

Anyone remember Chris Burgess? He turned down BYU for Duke in basketball and the BYU coach said he was letting down 9 million people (the LDS Church membership) by not going to the Y. Nothing against the Y on this comment, it was made by an individual. But Burgess eventually transferred to the U (and missed out on a national title!) People have to watch comments like that, though I still somehow managed to join the LDS Church 2 years later despite hearing that nonsense ;)
Johnny | 4:55 p.m. Nov. 28, 2007
David Kruger would have been a great one at BYU. He will be missed, but I wish him the best at Utah. I hope both schools will see many, many prominent years ahead in both football and basketball. Let's made the MWC a strong league from here on out, worthy of annual BCS participation and Sweet 16 appearances.

Go Cougars (my alma mater) and Utes!

Cougar | 11:05 a.m. Nov. 29, 2007
I love that good athletes are going to both schools. We need the Utes to be a GREAT team for the sake of the conference. The ONLY game I want the Utes to lose is the rivalry game--every year! We need them to win every other game to give the MWC more credibility.

Congrats David. I hope you have a great career at Utah.
