What you should bare in mind is that the sins of Huntsman has nothing to do with his being a moderate Republican. That is not the issue. And it is not even his behind the scenes flip-flopping. It is his outright deception.
When Mike Leavitt got so far into the games of playing his base against the world, it cost him. The right wing will always whine. They love candidates right up until they get elected. Once elected, they become the enemy. We know that. And since we know that they become very useful.
On a couple major policy issues Governor Huntsman completely mislead his base. It is eroding quicker than a sand foundation under a Malibu beach mansion during a man made hurricane.
The other day I listened as two moderate Republican legislators talked about not wanting to get into the fray of Huntsman reelection. When his base is not excited about fighting for him....you got troubles at the OK Corral. Good thing Doc Holliday is on our side. Watermelon man awaits!
I think the leadership has done a pretty good job the last few years (vouchers excluded). They could really set themselves up as heroes if they were to really fund education this year. There is plenty of money and need right now. It is the right thing to do and would be seen by many that they really are listening to their constituents.
I'd love to see the headlines when a $10,000 per year raise for teachers comes out!
