Gov. Huntsman needs to come out of his ivory tower. Not only is climate change part of the natural order and not within our ability to control, this new "religion" is based on political ideology and not science. In addition, it flies in the face of common sense. I am not prepared to allow Huntsman and the Greenies to force their environmental religion on me. Higher taxes and unnecessary gov. control of our lives. There is no crisis and if we examine modernity, the environment is cleaner than it was 50 or 100 years ago. C'mon Huntsman, get a grip!

I'm proud that Utah is "at the table" on this issue so that the state's energy industry will have a say on how climate change policy in the West will play out... so many Utahns are saying we should ignore climate change science and politics. But if we do, our coal and gas industries will simple be "on the menu" as other states set policies to Utah's energy exports out of their energy portfolios! Word is that Milford will have a super large wind farm to serve California's demand for renewables. Wind is the fastest growing energy source, with Texas, Wyoming, and Colorado taking the lead and their rural communities are flush with economic growth! Let's hope Utah gets in on this future energy boom so that our farmers and ranchers can get a share of this new industry! It should bring millions in new economic development to the state!

The greatest hoax being perpetrated on mankind and Huntsman has bought into it hook, line, and sinker.

There is not one shred of proof that man-made CO2 causes global warming. None. The only link between global warming and CO2 came from ice cores. Gore used this connection in his movie, yet he failed to mention that atmospheric CO2 levels increased several hundred years AFTER the global temperature rise. The IPCC calls this bit of information "irrelevant." Irrelevant? They used this connection to jump-start the GW scare, but now that we know the data doesn't support their theory of man being responsible for GW, the data is now irrelevant?

We taxpayers are going to see our energy bills double in the next three years just so we can combat an imaginary pollutant: CO2.

Read the article in "Opinion" today. Notice it's written by an actual local meteorologist. Someone who knows what he's talking about.
Global warming is not based on political ideology. It is based on sound science. Go read a science journal.

i agree huntsman chemical ought to look inside, but i'm proud huntsman is leading the way on this. it's time for moderates to speak out; only wackos at this point deny climate change is real.

Governor Silver Spoon's family might have sold the company, but it's highly unlikely they gave away the "dirty money" they made by pumping CO2 into the atmosphere.

Perhaps our wealthy governor counts all that Huntsman Chemical polystyrene sitting in our nation's landfills as "sequestered carbon".

Way to go, someone in control finally caught on. I have solar hot water and 1kw of solar power coming in every sunny day. Lots of people like to talk about it (or against it), but nothing will get done unless everyone of us do something about it. With population growth being so 'popular' in Utah, gunna need to do something about it all...

It is nice to see that the majority of the citizens of Utah are not caught up in the false hype of Global Warming. Yes there is climate change, but to think that man is the driving force is very arrogant. I hope the citizens think twice before re-electing this Governor.

Proving causation is VERY difficult, as any student of statistics or science knows. Should we wait and do nothing, while the average temps rise? God helps those who help themselves.

Also, from a geo-political perspective, reducing our dependence on fossil fuels, particularly petroleum, makes sense. You don't have to be a supporter of Gore or an Environmentalist to recognize that fact.

I can not agree more. Man-made global warming is the biggest political witch hunt of our generation. Climate change happens. To think that us, humans, have the power to change the climate is arrogant. I think that enivornment is ours to care for and we should avoid pollution. Global climate change is not man-made.

The NASA report this week is important in this discussion. They showed that warming in the Arctic in the recent decade was caused by changes in Arctic ocean circulation, not by global temperature change. They further said it's a decade-scale cycle.

When will people wake up to the fact that "global warming" is a fraud? Mankind isn't causing changes, Nature is! Govs. Huntsman and Schwartzeneggar have been duped!

I guess he's bought in to the farce too. Pretty soon he'll be flying around in a Prius instead of his families GV. The earth has been warming since the ice age. Wake up you green heads, who are we to say what temperature the earth should be? Because we're used to the climate of our lifespans? What about the climate of early man? Shouldn't their climate have been the ideal climate? Oh yeah the cavemans hummers and coal plants warmed the earth up, wake up people. By the way the warmest temp recorded was in 1938 or 39 (long before the SUV was invented), not 2007. Al Gore has sold you all on a farce! I thought Huntsman was smarter than this?

Why do so many people assume if you're a Republican, you believe Global Warming is a hoax? And if you don't believe that or do anything to promote energy conservation or environmental concerns, you are a Democrat?

I don't see how protecting the environment is a partisan issue. Those who condemn any Republican who tries to take a stand on issues like this are giving Republicans a bad image I don't agree they deserve and make the stereotypes the left have made for Republicans sound correct.

Lets see, the Gov. ran on the premise that parents should have more choices in the education of their children, but absolutely refused to be the "pitch" man for the parents for choice bill referendum vote. Now he has no problem being the "pitch" man for global warming. It is purely politics, the referendum vote looked to him as a losing cause so the conveniently fled the scene, it is politically correct at the moment to jump on the global warming bandwagon so away we go. Political expediency never was, never will be the same as principled leadership. Some day I hope to a see a real leader for the State of Utah

Can anybody offer an example of something conservatives have actually conserved? I agree with KH, the environment shouldn't be a partisan issue. The trouble is, recent history shows us that the stereotyping of contemporary repubs as anti-earth is a fair.

I only wish more republicans would get on board. I am embarrassed about the lack of honest discussion on this issue in the GOP. Take imported oil; we are sending almost $1Billion each business day to the same governments that fund terrorism. Add the military costs for oil regions (even in "peace-time" operations) and we already have an effective gas tax of an extra $2.58 per gallon. Huntsman sees the opportunity here; going green is great for the economy. Each $1 Billion we don't send abroad creates 10,000 new jobs in America. Thanks for taking a stand and showing some needed leadership.

Utah also has some serious solar power potential in a couple of southern parts of the state. Unlike nuclear and coal plants solar projects use very little water and the price points are dropping very fast. In three years solar will approach price parity with coal, even without carbon taxes.

Gov. Huntsman is trying to fill a void created by two oilmen; Bush and Cheney. Going green is very wise for the economy if done right--and Gov Huntsman seems to be headed in the right direction.

Its about time. Our state legislators need to pass laws requiring new energy comes from clean renewable sources (Solar, Wind, Geothermal), and that we gradually reduce the energy consumed in this state from fossil fuels. We should end up with only 10% comming from fossil fuels by 2025. Unless, our new energy needs do not grow that fast.

We need laws and incentives for residents of metropolitan areas to drive hybrid or straight electric vehicles. It is sad to drive into the Salt Lake Valley and see the Brown Haze everyone breathes.

Even in St. George the other day there was a brown haze.

Our state should pass legislation requiring cleaner gasoline, manditory hybrid or electric commuter vehicles for those living in metropolitan areas.

We need to join California in leading the Nation of clean renewable energy. Look at the solar maps for the USA and one of the best spots is St. George and the Arizona Strip; our State should be funding in partnership with the Federal Government a large Solar Plant there.

Look at the wind maps and near Parowan is one of the best places for wind farms.

Okay in order to be intellectually honest as an environmentalist then you must admit that nuclear power emites no emissions, is cheaper than all but one source of electric power (coal), and gives those of us who like to use power the amount of power we desire. It really is the perfect compromise. Environmentalists get the support of people who like and need power and reduces green house emissions. If they are unwilling to compromise on nuclear then there is a different agenda. Don't tell me about how dangerous nuclear is. The technoligies that control nuclear are considerably more reliable and enhanced since the 1970s and even the UN's report on Chernoble show that the devestation was far far less than thought. Let me clarify I don't want a melt down or leak my point is it is much safer than we think.

The news recently has been full of stories about how the cost of gasoline is hurting consumers and could cause recession if it stays at current levels next year. In Utah we get 95% of our electricity from coal, which is the main whipping boy for man-caused climate change. If Huntsman gets his way and Utah's coal fired power plants are converted to some other form of generation, all Utahns' electric bills will increase a greater percentage than the cost of gasoline has increased. Huntsman does not seem to realize this.

The reason why so many people think that the scientific consensus on global warming is a left-wing conspiracy is because they get all of their science education from right-wing political pundits and propogandists.

You make a lot of assumptions in your argument that would have to be agreed upon to agree with you, one of which is to quickly dispel the idea that nukes are safe. Okay. Let's say I agree with that assumption. What about the water it takes to process the plutonium? Please address this. And while you're at it, what about the mining itself, and the amount of fossil fuels it takes to do the mining, etc. Thanks in advance for offering specifics.

Even conservative Newt Gingrich, long a global warming skeptic, now realizes it is real and that man is causing it. He has apologized on behalf of the Republican Party for being so slow to recognize the science. Go ahead. Look it up with a quick Google.

As an out-of-stater, I applaud Gov. Huntsman's brave stand in Utah. The science on global warming is in and it's scary.

Utah, as I recall is semi-arid, growing rapdily and has scarce water resources. I recommend the citizenry listen to the good Governor and stop whinning and do something about their soon to be drastic situation.
