I hope people are smart enought to shoot this down. If this town full of snobby rich easterners who will only be here during the winter gets incoorperated, where am I going to be able to hunt?

Aspen, Utah sounds great...a bunch of wealthy individuals come from out of state, drive up the property tax rates until the locals who lived there for years have to move out. There are no local winners with this type of development.

How about a town entirely dedicated to historic architecture styles, primarily folk Victorian and arts & crafts, not the tasteless McMansions I see sprawling all over the place?

I guess the guy owns the property so he should have the right to develop it BUT. Why does the whole west have to be a tourist trap ? Why does someone who already has money have to want so much more ? I was raised in areas such as Durango, CO and Moab, UT. As the towns turn from the locals to tourist traps they lose a lot of good character. If I were to model a town/development it sure as heck would not be Aspen.

Why in the world name this Aspen? Aspen is well-known as a town in Colorado. It's a very dumb idea. Call it something else.

sounds like it will be like the real aspen. far away from everything and lame. also worth noting is how there have been about 0 new ski resorts in the country in the last 30 years. good luck.

There are lots of places to hunt. Rich easterners who pay lots of property tax to support our schools is only a good thing. With all of the debate about how to improve our schools, at last here is a project that brings in money to do just that.

Let's ruin more land to make play grounds for wealthy non-Utahans. Where do you find a slope in Utah that hasn't been slashed up in to make ski runs? Thank god! Congressman from outside of Utah are trying to save Utah's public land from ORV use. Utahans just don't seem to take any pride in their outdoors. Does it follow that you must take pride in yourself before you can take some pride in where you live?

I preferred Utah 40 years ago when we had less than a million residents. We weren't always whining about air pollution and paying through the nose for water or made to feel like we were sinners for watering our lawns. We had good fishing and hunting, and children could play outside all day without their mothers worrying if they had been kidnapped and molested.

I've seen enough growth. Let the Eastern liberals and Hollywood liberals build fifth homes someplace else. Growth makes a few people millionaires; it just congests the rest of us.

Tell you what. You go hunting WITHOUT booze, a trailer, six friends, ATVs and eat EVERY BIT of the meat from the deer you shoot, and I'll fight this incooperated [sic].

Otherwise, I'll enjoy having another SAFE place in Utah without worrying about a gun-nut lurking behind the trees.

I am all for the resort and town itself. With our burgeoning metro,direct trans-atlantic flights, and unparalled access, we are going to need that new Day break resort, expanded resorts around Ogden, and this one in Wasatch County. Our ski-industry is only going to continue to boom. I wouldn't be surprised to see the old Seven Peaks Resort re-resurrected.
Utah still has a huge and vast resource of prime hunting areas and always will with our vast BLM ownership.

Oh, and I forgot to add. I think using the name of our famous competitor to the East is a very negative idea, to say the least. Deer Valley, which is the closest neighbor is continually rated as the #1 and #2 resort in all of No. America. Use Deer Valley as the bench-mark, and for heaven's sake get a name for the resort that will allow it to stand on its own!!

I like this idea. Although Seller does sound a little crazy or over optimistic. But we do need a ski resort east in the uintas, they get alot of snow and the runs could be longer like the resorts in colorado.

You can't hunt there as it is. It's private. He can do what is within the law to develope his own property. He owns it. If he's careful, it will be successful. He could also, and more likely, tank. Then we can buy his property at Trustee Sale.

This city will devastate the neighborhoods he is trying to enfold. This city is the device of one man named Dean Sellers. He bought some cattle free range and the only why he can develop it is to make it a city. It will destroy the ecology of the mountains. This is the only watershed around Heber valley which has not been damaged by development. Thousand of animals will die because of this so called city. Of 200 people who live in the only exisiting development there 175 of us signed the petition against his city. The government says he only needs up to 5 people who want his city. We all need to take a close look at the new laws for making cities DONT WE!.

He's so busy bragging himself up into god-like status that he neglects to mentions things like the fact that businesses in Aspen have to bus employees 2+ hours to and from Grand Junction. The labor force can't afford to live any closer. Somebody shoot that white horse he's riding on right now, before it gets out of the gate.

Why don't you stop trying to shoot Bambi. Who cares if you can't hunt. It's all that cheap meat right? The $40,000, the $10,000 ATV and all the clothing and guns make it very economical. It's private property in that are already. All bets are that the developer doesn't have enough cash to develop it anyway. There are many other locations for you to search for Bambi and his family.

The article was wrong when it stated that the "approval" of the incorpoation was lifted from the Wasatch County Commission and given to the Lt. Governor. In fact, the Wasatch County Commission must give its approval and then send all corresponding documents to the Lt.Gov's office for the final certification. The Lt.Gov's office must certify the incorporation if it (the corp) has met all of the necessary statutory needs, such as approval from the county commission.

Sounds like a fiefdom controlled by a feudal lord.

Since he owns the largest majority of the property, it is probably posted against hunting.

For those who have not been to Aspen Colorado, it used to be a small friendly community. No more, it is a playground for the nouveau riche, corrupt corporate executives and politicians, movie stars and foreign dignitary's. A large number of people from the middle east, Saudi Arabia, etc also own land there.

No one that works there can afford to live there. They all live 'down valley' as it is known there.

I've spent a lot of time there, (working) and know a few people who are old timers there, and even they are having to move because of soaring property values and associated taxes.

A older 'era' house that would sell for $100,000.00 in SLC could bring a million or more in Aspen.

I wonder how many of you Heber-ite complainers actually were born and grew up in Wasatch County? I suspect that most of the complainers have emigrated from out of the county.

I think this project is a non-starter from the get go anyway. If the best the developer can do is claim to be a "knock-off" of the real Aspen, CO then there isn't much imagination at work.

Here's the deal: big ego guy comes in, buys some hunting land, doesn't even ski himself but somewhere along the line has had some famous Deer Valley Turkey Chili and sees the $1,000,000 lots in Summit Co making "the man" rich, finds himself in a unique situation (the Ruby Inn clause), hires fancy pants attorneys to figure out the loopholes, takes advantage of this accidental law designed to circumvent county planners a law that will be repealed next legislature, hires press guy to tell the world he has moved to Utah, land planners whisper in his ear about a ski resort, he not only listens but guzzles the kool-aid, bullies his way around trying to acquire the key parcels to make it work, talks like John Wayne but fashions himself as the next Edgar Stern, and wants to call it "Aspen, Utah". Get your freak on, man.

I grew up in Utah and I now live in Idaho. There is similar things happening here in Idaho, but at least the current residents are fighting the development of wilderness areas. Idaho currently has the most acreage of pristine wilderness in the lower 48 states. I hope it can stay that way. If not then I guess I will have to move to Alaska. If all you people that still care about the way Utah used to be really care then you need to stand up and fight. Maybe look at the way Idaho has tried to keep the wilderness areas safe.

I think I know why anonymous chose to be anonymous. Utahns have done just fine managing public lands, it's the feds, influenced by those anonymous bast--- ecofreaks that have screwed it up for those who really care and appreciate the outdoors. As for Bambi, we have way too many Bambis. Hunt on.

By the way, all you easterners who want us to go hunt somewhere else, then you need to open your eyes and realize that you are causing more need to hunt. When people like this rich guy come in and want to develop this wilderness area, that creates worse problems by taken away natural habitat for wild animals. Which causes the need to hunt so that they are not overpopulating the now less wilderness areas that are still untouched. Wake up and realize that development of wilderness land is ten times worse than hunting animals.

But the more area that is developed by some rich person wanting to get richer will cause more need to hunt. This land that is a natural habitat for wild animals is being taken away from them and then they have to give more tags to the hunters so that the animals don't overpopulate the remaining habitat that is available. So you ignorant easterners that want hunters to go away and not kill "innocent" animals need to realize that developing natural habitat for these "innocent" animals is ten times worse than what the hunters are doing!!!!!

But seriously, one of the things that bothers me is more land for development. We need the tax revenue for schools and having expensive houses that people don't live in year round helps. Having more houses that people don't live in also spoils the view. I happen to like the unspoiled view.
