As an example a volunteer from the campaign knocked on my door this past Saturday (a pleasant surprise considering I live past Redwood and a competing paper said that Ralph did not come out here all that often). This volunteer was out despite the weather and told me that the reason she came out was because she wanted to show people that the campaign is working hard and is not assuming they already have this thing in the bag.
I hope people don't consider this as Ralph "ducking the debate" and give the guy the benefit of the doubt.
Besides, it is very unlikely the state bar invited one candidate and failed to invite the other. Admit your staff made a mistake, Ralph. It is OK to tell people you can't make it to something because of a conflict-- being the minority leader at the Capitol is a good justification for not being available. It is not OK for someone who wants to be mayor to just blow people off.
